DtDE Studio Series returns this week!

The March edition of Dancetheatre David Earle's Studio Series is a vernal cornucopia of dance works!

This month's event showcases a selection of works-in-progress by student choreographers, in combination with some classic and newly-revived works by David Earle from both our repertoire classes and the rehearsal preparations for an upcoming guest appearance in Sudbury with Denise Vitali's Earthdancers.

Two of the works are showings of pieces in creation for this year's Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival. Georgia Simms and Robert Kingsbury will show excerpts of their recent creative processes, and talk about the ideas involved in their work. Simms' piece is a reflection on our relationship with water in our ecology & Kingsbury's work investigates the dancer's interior map of sensation.

Julia Garlisi, Janet Johnson, and Georgia Simms will be showing Serious Games, Part I, which was last seen in Guelph as part of the company's appearance at the River Run Centre a year ago. Serious Games, Parts I & II will also soon be performed by Canadian Children's Dance Theatre, who originally commissioned the work a decade ago, as part of their Turning 30! program on May 19 & 20, 2011.

In 2006, composer, musician and our 'resident Orpheus' Arun Pal organized a series of music concerts at the studio to showcase the wealth of local musical talent. These "Temple Music" concerts each included a dance work created for the event by David, to the music of the evening's featured artist.

Two of these dance works are included in this month's Studio Series. Shalom, set to traditional music by "the Jeff Beck of acoustic guitar" Tony McManus and danced by Georgia Simms and Nasir Chaudhry, and Only 2 for 3 in 5, to music composed by Arun Pal and danced by Suzette Sherman, Julia Garlisi and Michael English.

"Only 2", in addition to other repertoire, will be traveling to Sudbury the week following to be presented as part of the Earthdancers' benefit dance performance for local, national and international environmental causes on April 1 & 2nd, 2011.

The March Studio Series will be the next opportunity for the community to come together with the dancers to share in viewing current works from the repertoire in an informal, studio setting.
