VISITORS KNOCKED AND DOORS OPEN GUELPH ANSWERED
Guelph, ON April 28, 2012-- Saturday, April 28, saw yet another successful Doors Open Guelph. The twelfth event in Guelph launched the 2012 Ontario Doors Open season. Doors Open Guelph is the first of some 57 events that will take place this year across the province. Presented by Guelph Arts Council in partnership with Heritage Guelph, and City of Guelph Tourism Services, Doors Open Guelph 2012 offered free, guided tours of several of Guelph's finest buildings between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
As in the past, participants expressed appreciation at being given the opportunity to glimpse behind many of those doors not generally open to the public. The Guelph Civic Museum and the historic Church of Our Lady Immaculate as well as several of the University of Guelph Sites proved to be incredibly popular. Of the many participants, over 40 per cent of those attending were visitors to Guelph. Many visitors commented on both the beauty of Guelph and the well organized presentation of the Doors Open Guelph event.
A lot of time, effort and energy go into making Doors Open Guelph a success each year. Site/Volunteer Coordinators Sharyn McKee and Roblin May are a key ingredient of this success. They work closely with the site owners/managers who always enter into the spirit of the day at the same time as they generously open their doors for this annual celebration of Guelph's history and architectural heritage. The Coordinators also recruit and train an amazing group of dedicated volunteers. In total, 100 volunteersserve as tour guides, sweeps (following along behind the tours), greeters, counters, sign installers, photographers, researchers and more. In addition, several key sponsors and partners provide invaluable assistance and support.
Doors Open Guelph Partners: Ontario Heritage Trust, City of Guelph, Guelph Tourism Services, Heritage Guelph, Victoria Wood (Arkell) Ltd., Downtown Guelph Business Association, Barking Dog Studios, Grinham Architect.
