Professional Visual Artist-- painting, drawing, author/illustrator, figurative realism, workshop facilitator
Wellington Artists' Gallery and Art Centre, 6142 Wellington Rd. 29, RR4 Fergus is proud to welcome Nola McConnan, a full time professional visual artist. She teaches painting and drawing; she illustrates and does commissioned work; she works in art on a daily basis...it is her life. Her most recent book ‘ABC Muskoka' is in its sixth printing! Nola has produced for private collectors, 1250 images of the development of equipment and playing venues of all major Sports Leagues dating from 1868 to 2005. Her pencil and brush produce people, architecture, animals, and landscapes....whatever it is ...she can draw it and paint it.
Nola works in egg tempera, watercolour, pencil crayon, or mixed media to make images which are representational, detailed and highly interpretive. The fine brush strokes and translucent nature of egg tempera make the coats in her portraits of four footed family members, domestic animals in agriculture or competition and their people believable. Sound technique allows her confident experiments for accurate coat textures and colours. Nola has attained international recognition for her detailed figurative realism. Her works are shown along side those of Kreighoff, Tom Forestall and George MacLean plus a number of First Nations artists. Her work is keenly sought and is in private collections in Canada and the United States.
In her exhibition at Wellington Artists' Gallery she will be exhibiting some of the many Royal Winter Fair Posters which have been commissioned. She will be showing some of her unique and exclusive ‘No Mud' pixillated landscapes and animal portraits. And one thread runs through it all ....horses. Later in the Season Nola will be teaching a workshop here on drawing moving objects...namely HORSES!
Wellington Artists' Gallery is proud to present the work of a Member who is so widely recognized in the art world. Nola's work will hang from June 29 to July 26. Her meet the artist Opening Reception will be Sat. July 7 from 1-4 p.m. Nola's complete bio is on her website www.merriweatherdesignstudio.com
