Self-portrait with 2-month old daughter
|
I grew up in the Guelph area and received my BA at the University of Guelph. After starting off in the IT field, I soon found that I wanted more creativity and direct contact with people, so I began exploring. I job-shadowed a midwife and discovered a passion for birth. Becoming a doula has been a significant part of my life. As a doula, I feel as if I’m being a midwife to the spirit of parents and their children, holding a safe space and helping them have the best possible start to their new life together.
I bought a camera around that same time and soon found that I was pretty good at taking pictures of people. My first experiment combining a camera and doula work happened when my sister was overdue to give birth. (My nephew ended up being 10.5 pounds, born naturally with no pain medications after an induction – yay, sis!) After 12 years, I continue to enjoy photographing people in their own homes or outdoors - each session is a new experience, and clients are quite pleasantly surprised that such a relaxed, enjoyable experience can also produce lovely photographs. I love my diverse life as a parent, teacher and artist, and I work hard to put people at ease, whether it's during childbirth or in front of a camera. I still use the same "old-fashioned" film camera I bought years ago. If you have any further questions about what I do, please feel free to send me an email (rebekahjamieson@hotmail.com) or call me at 519-821-4176. Best wishes!
