| Debbie, Werner, Lindsay, Katarina and Adrian have been involved with Guelph Museums since 1998 when Werner portrayed Reuben Rogers Sr. at the 3rd annual Spirit Walk. A few years later we were fortunate to have oldest daughter Lindsay choose Guelph Museums to complete her high school co-op placement. Now in her 2nd year at the University of Windsor, she stills helps when she is home in Guelph.
Today, Debbie, Katarina and Adrian continue the family tradition by assisting with programs and special events. When asked why they volunteer, both Katarina and Adrian stated that it is “the fun and neat programs we can help out with.” They especially noted March Break activities (they loved the swing dancing), Summer Teas (the extra scones) and the Teddy Bear Picnic (all-round fun)!
We are so pleased to have such a great family take time from a busy schedule (work, school, theatre, dance, fitness classes, piano, etc.) to volunteer at Guelph Museums. Thanks Eitzen Family!

On Wednesday, April 18, as part of National Volunteer Week, Guelph Museums held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Night with over thirty people attending. This is always a great opportunity for museum staff to properly thank this committed group of individuals whose assistance is so very much appreciated. The guest speaker was Audrey Jamal, General Manager of the Downtown Board of Management, who gave an enlightening and enthusiastic talk on current projects and future plans for the downtown.
This event provided the opportunity to recognize long service volunteer achievement. Receiving two year service awards were: Ken Russell (Curatorial) Stephen Ketchum (Programming) Betty Mottin (Programming) Carole McGuire (Historic Gardens)
Three of Guelph Museums’ volunteers were also recognized for their long service at the Ontario Volunteer Service Awards ceremony held on Friday, April 20 in Kitchener. Congratulations to: Harold (Hal) Crawford (15 years - Curatorial) Liane Howell (10 years – Programming) Catherine Ang (5 years – Curatorial).
Thanks once again to our dedicated volunteers who continue to support us in all aspect of museum work. Guelph Museum encompasses both Guelph Civic Museum and McCrae House. Volunteers assist with activities behind the scenes such as collections management, exhibits and research, programs and special events, the maintenance of McCrae House historic gardens, and the Board of Management. For more information on volunteering opportunities please call (519) 836-1221.
