Clive creates detailed, thoughtful engravings in both black and white and colour. Although he captures a wide variety of subjects, Clive's fondness for Georgian Bay and for his Rural roots show up often in his prints.
His work is available at the Whitestone or by appointment in his studio.
While studying at OCA in Toronto I became interested in typography and Letterpress printing and for a few years worked a lot with old wood and lead type. It wasnt until a friend asked me to illustrate a poster that I started to engrave.
Engraving is very much about the individual lines and the visual suggestions that their shapes make. I find it very satisfying and relaxing to push the graver through a plate leaving a line in its wake.
The printing part of the process is, of course, an integral part of the process and delivers a certain satisfaction when a good impression is pulled from a plate. That desire for rich, solid colour on a page comes from my interest in Letterpress printing.
