Call for Exhibition Proposals from Artists and Curators

One of many amazing things about GAC’s relocation to 10C Shared Space is our new access to space for exhibitions. Our first exhibitions in the space celebrated the work of the emerging artist participants in the Guelph Young Artist Mentorship Project, our partnership with the University of Guelph’s School of Fine Art & Music. In 2018 you can expect to see GAC-hosted exhibitions in the first-floor community gallery space in August, September, October, and December. In 2019 we have the space for July, August, November and December.

diverse audiences, 10C Shared Space is a unique place to host an exhibition.

Watch for details on what is happening in the space in August and October. For September, December, and the 2019 months, GAC is now inviting exhibition ideas for solo or group shows from member artists and curators.

In September, GAC can offer space for a month-long exhibition and an opening reception, and assistance with installation and promotion. In the longer term, GAC plans to apply to the Guelph Community Foundation – Musagetes Fund and/or the Ontario Arts Council’s Visual Arts Projects program for exhibition assistance. This assistance will support professional artists’ and curators’ fees, travel, equipment rental, publications, publicity, and other eligible expenses.

Guelph Arts Council and 10C have in common the conviction that the arts have a role to play in social change, and that collaboration strengthens communities. Similarly, The Guelph Community Foundation - Musagetes Fund is focusing in 2018 on supporting arts projects that address issues of the under-served and under-represented in our community, or that promote and enhance sustainable environmental practices. While artists and curators may propose exhibitions on any theme, priority may be given to projects that align with these thematic priorities

Currently hosting UofG information, the space hosts art more often than not on the adjustable cable hanging system.

Exhibition proposals to Guelph Arts Council need not be fully detailed, as project plans can be fine-tuned with support from GAC. The applicant will be responsible, if selected, for implementing the final project.

To propose a project, describe your idea in an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., including the intent and details you consider critical to the project. If the idea is potentially feasible and would be a good fit for the space, you’ll be asked to provide more details including timelines, images, info about artists/participants, and what costs you anticipate. If your project is selected, you’ll work with GAC to fine-tune details, and will provide GAC with a curatorial or artist statement that can be posted with the exhibition and used in communications about the project.

Proposals received before Friday, July 6 can be considered for inclusion in an upcoming application to the Musagetes Fund. Late applications will be accepted and considered for future funding applications. Artists and curators are welcome to secure their own project funding through sponsors, grants, or other sources. Depending on the response to this new program, an independent jury of arts professionals may be engaged to support the selection process.

Lead applicants (artists or curators) will be Artist members of Guelph Arts Council, but their collaborators need not be. Not a GAC member? Join here.
