GUELPH MALE CHOIR CONDUCTOR/ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Job Description
The G.M.C. is seeking an experienced Choral Conductor/Artistic Director starting in August 2017. Founded in 1997, the Guelph Male Choir currently includes 35 - 40 men who sing TTBB, TBB and TB. No auditions are required for singers to join. There is also an important social component to be respected.
Our organization provides a supportive level of musical instruction, with an equal focus on musicianship and performance, as well as service to the community. Each year, the choir presents two concerts: one near Christmas and another in the spring. At the Christmas Concert, we have showcased our Kiwanis Music Festival GMC Scholarship winners and at the Spring Concert we engage adult performers or small ensembles to augment our musical theme. We also organize informal outings to perform at retirement, seniors’ facilities and singing for local church services.

Guelph Dance: Seeking Volunteer Camp Counsellors

Guelph Dance is seeking enthusiastic and energetic volunteers to serve as camp counsellors during our March Break Arts Explosion Camp. Volunteers can work the entire week of camp, March 13-17, or selected days. A mandatory training session will be held on Saturday, March 11.
 
This is a great opportunity to earn volunteer hours while working with kids and being involved with the arts. The camp takes place 8:30 am-4:30 pm, March 13-17, at the River Run Centre, 35 Woolwich Street, Guelph.

Curtain Call Productions: Seeking Vocal Director for Heathers The Musical

Curtain Call Productions, the University of Guelph musical theatre company, is currently seeking a Vocal Director for their 2017 production of Heathers the Musical.

The Vocal Director is responsible for preparing and running vocal rehearsals, while coordinating with the rest of the rehearsal team on the cohesive styling of the show. It is a volunteer position as the entire company is comprised of students of the University and surrounding community members. Curtain Call has been putting on shows since 1957 and are dedicated to providing high-calibre and entertaining shows to the entire community. Rehearsals begin the second week of January and run until our show week, the third week of March.

Friends of Vocamus Press Book Bash Festival Director

The Book Bash Festival Director is responsible for planning and overseeing the Book Bash Festival,
Friends of Vocamus Press’ annual celebration of Guelph and area books.

Organization
Founded in 2012 and incorporated in 2015, Friends of Vocamus Press is a non-profit community
organization that supports book culture in Guelph, Ontario and the surrounding area. Our free services
include writing workshops, author consultations, and event planning and promotion. We also produce
anthologies of local writing.

The Book Bash Festival is our annual celebration of local books. It gathers any author in the Guelph
area who has published a book in the previous year. These authors are given a space to sell their books,
a chance to “speed date” their book to the audience in conversation with the event host, and time to
interact informally with the attendees. The event is intended to be casual and fun, with food and drink
and prizes – a party for Guelph books.

Position
The Book Bash Festival Director will plan and implement the Book Bash Festival in the fall of 2017,
working closely with the Managing Director, the Director of Communications, and the Director of
Fundraising. The position requires relatively few hours throughout the year but about 15 hours a week
in the period leading up to the event (approximately September and October).

Responsibilities
* plan and develop the Book Bash Festival program;
* identify suitable date, location, and host;
* identify and network with sponsors;
* oversee media and promotion;
* oversee volunteers.

Qualifications
* a passion for books and book culture;
* experience in arts administration;
* excellent written and verbal communication skills;
* strong relational skills;
* a willingness to collaborate with other directors and community partners;
* an ability to work independently.

Friends of Vocamus Press ETCH Anthology Coordinator

The ETCH Anthology Coordinator is responsible for planning and overseeing the production of the
ETCH Anthology, an annual collection of teen writing produced by Friends of Vocamus Press in
collaboration with the Guelph Public Library.

Organization
Founded in 2012 and incorporated in 2015, Friends of Vocamus Press is a non-profit community
organization that supports book culture in Guelph, Ontario and the surrounding area. Our free services
include writing workshops, author consultations, and event planning and promotion. We also produce
anthologies of local writing and run the Book Bash Festival, an annual celebration of Guelph and area
books.

The ETCH anthology collects the winners of the Guelph Public Library’s annual teen writing contest.
The entries are evaluated, and the winners are partnered with local professional writers to get editorial
feedback. The revised stories are published in the anthology, which is released at a launch party, with
local writers announcing the winners, and with local teen musicians providing music.
Position

The ETCH Anthology Coordinator will oversee the evaluation of teen contest entries, the connection of
teens with professional writers, and the planning of the launch event. The position will work closely
with the Managing Director. It will require relatively few hours throughout the year but 10-15 hours a
week in the period leading up to the event (approximately May 1 through June 10).

Responsibilities
* oversee the judging of teen entries;
* connect winning entries with professional writers;
* submit revised entries for typesetting;
* plan a launch event at the Guelph Public Library;
* identify book presenters and musician for launch event;
* oversee media and promotion for launch event.

Qualifications
* a passion for books and book culture;
* experience in arts administration;
* excellent written and verbal communication skills;
* some experience with editorial work and copy editing;
* strong relational skills;
* a willingness to collaborate with other directors and community partners;
* an ability to work independently;
* a current Police Vulnerable Sector Check.

GUELPH UNITED PERFORMERSCOMMUNITY THEATRE CAMP (Volunteer Opportunity with Honorarium)

OVERVIEW:Guelph United Performers is looking for a special person who will assume the position of Manager& Creator of Costumes, Props, and Sets. This position applies to our two Community Children’s Theatre Camps, for boys and girls ages 6 to 10. Our camps run every morning from 9:00 to noon. We start on Monday morning and invite our families and friends to our “Show” on Friday morning. We operate a very fast-paced program, with a focus on learning theatre skills, making our own costumes and staging for our Show, learning songs, and having lots of fun. We operate two one-week camps in July: July 4 to 8, and July 18 to 22, 2016. There are up to 24 children in each camp, and each child has a role in our Show.

 

POSITION TITLE:Manager & Creator of Costumes, Props, and Sets. This position requires a standard Police Record Check. Cost of Police Check is covered by Trinity United Church.This position offers opportunity and experience in working with young children in a theatre camp environment. The creation of staging and costumes that are suitable and workable for children, ages 6 to 10, is a vital component of the position. Ideally, full responsibility for this segment of the camp program would be given to the Manager. An honorarium will be discussed during interview. We are a not-for-profit operation.TIME REQUIRED:Community Theatre Camp for 6 to 10-year-olds operates two one-week sessions in July, from 9:00 a.m. to noon. This position would require you to be available from 8:30 a.m. to, probably 1:00 p.m. during our two active camp weeks. Actual hours required during our two camp sessions would amount to approximately 45. However, this position would require a number of hours dedicated to planning and preparing costumes, props, and sets for our campers prior to actual camp dates.

 

LOCATION OF THEATRE CAMP :Community Theatre Camp uses the auditorium/stage and grounds of Trinity United Church, 400 Stevenson St. N., Guelph. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:- Be prepared and equipped to create costumes, props, and sets with our campers, in accordance with the script, beginning the first day of Camp.- During camp sessions, take charge of a daily 45-minute creative craft time to produce the costumes, props, and sets required for our Show. -Over--Page 2 --Guide 3 teenage assistants under your direction as they assist and teach our young campers.-Supervise, along with our teenage volunteers, all painting, gluing, cutting, etc.-Be knowledgeable about the children in our care, as to allergies, etc. Have the ability to keep everyone safe, happy, and productive.-Be supportive to Director and Producer in the overall operation of Community Theatre Camp.

 

SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:-A love for working with young children in a creative environment-Excellent imaginative skills relative to designing and creating costumes and staging suitable for this age bracket. Under your guidance, our theatre campers would make their own costumes, props, and sets for their stage.-Be creative in locating various articles which can be turned into just what we need to create a particular costume.-Be flexible. On a daily basis – things happen-Have the skill required to thrill a child by making something wonderful out of sheer imagination-Be knowledgeable about the children in our care, as to allergies, etc. Ability to keep everyone safe, happy, and productive.-Be supportive to Director and Producer in the overall operation of Community Theatre Camp.-Be a team player in all things.-Possess good communication skills with children, parents and staff-Have a genuine interest and love of theatre, drama, music-Exercise good judgement- Be open minded to all suggestions

Director of Fundraising

The Director of Fundraising is responsible for managing grants, sponsorships, and other fundraising initiatives for Friends of Vocamus Press.

Organization

Founded in 2012 and incorporated in 2015, Friends of Vocamus Press is a non-profit community organization that supports book culture in Guelph, Ontario and the surrounding area. Our free services include writing workshops, author consultations, and event planning and promotion. We also produce anthologies of local writing and run the Book Bash Festival, an annual celebration of local books.

Position

As a working member of the Board of Directors, the Director of Communications will develop and implement our fundraising strategy, including grant applications, and sponsorships for the Book Bash Festival. The Director of Communications will work closely with the Managing Director to ensure that Friends of Vocamus Press is able to fund and develop its many programs adequately.

Responsibilities

* develop an organizational fundraising strategy;
* identify and apply for relevant grants;
* identify and solicit suitable sponsorships for the Book Bash Festival;
* meet and communicate regularly with the Managing Director;
* attend meetings of the Board of Directors.
