SUMMARY:Witnessing War
DESCRIPTION:Shaped and inspired by McCrae’s creative expressions\, Witnessing War features drawing\, paintings and sculptures by local and national artists\, spanning 100 years of art as a salve to war. \nThe exhibition includes art works made in response to the six global conflicts in which Canada has fought: \nSouth African War (1899 – 1902) \nFirst World War(1914 – 1918) \nSecond World War (1939 – 1945) \nKorean War (1950-1953) \nPersian Gulf War (1990 -1991) \nAfghanistan War (2001 – 2014). \nWitnessing War also considers responsive works by artists with connections to Guelph and the surrounding region\, who explore themes of human conflict in their art.\nVisit The Guelph Civic Arts Museum now until December 4th to view this exhibit.

SUMMARY:‘Connection & Response’ Elora Centre for the Arts
DESCRIPTION:New gallery exhibition reminds us that the most important aspect of our lives is\nour sense of connection. The Elora Centre for the Arts is set to launch a new exhibition in their gallery\, by award-winning Northern Ontario artist Bruce Cull. The exhibition\, entitled ‘Connection & Response’ reminds us that we are participants in\, and part of the physical world we inhabit. Bruce Cull’s work expresses his fear of lost connection with each other\, with our environment and a hope that we will rediscover old\, new and better forms of connection.\n“I live in a geographically isolated place” says Cull. “Yet I feel less isolated than many people in crowded urban environments”. Many of the objects incorporated into his work have been salvaged from the land he lives on. His stewardship of the land speaks directly to his connection with it. Bruce Cull lives in rural North East Ontario\, near Earlton in the Timiskaming District\, about 60km south of Kirkland Lake and almost 600km north of Elora. He lives on 200 acres\, in a studio that was once a granary for cattle. Cull has always lived in rural areas\, which as nourished his lifetime environmental awareness that has impacted his artistic practise. As Cull explains\, “we begin our lives connecting to our parent\, our siblings and gradually extending those relationships outward to a greater world of friends\, co-workers and others whom we encounter on this journey. SUMMARY:Culture Days: Reshaping Ruins presented by Guelph’s Artists in Residence
DESCRIPTION:Experience the Goldie Mill Ruins brought to life through light\, art\, and sound! Reshaping Ruins is an interactive art project that nurtures the community’s connection between the historic past and vibrant present of Goldie Mill Ruins. The project will reanimate Goldie Mill by bringing community-made visual art\, poetry\, and music into the space. \nThe project began with a call for poetry\, with the winning submission by Jeremy Luke-Hill being used as the text for a choral composition\, based on the creative prompt “How does it feel to experience an old space in a new light?” Local singers of all experience levels were invited to an interactive workshop where they learned\, performed\, and recorded the choir piece. The choral recordings were then manipulated into a more abstract\, ambient track to be played during the exhibition to inspire the visual art component. \nThe culminating exhibition will feature collaborative painting projections\, light\, and sound. The projection will consist of abstract and gestural painting\, paired with video footage of life in Guelph. The collaborative painting will mix with the music\, and animate the sounds flowing through the space\, while the videos will highlight the movements of people and nature in Guelph bringing the motion of life into the ruins. The works will be projected in real-time as the audience interacts with the space\, casting shadows onto the old building and bringing it to life with movement. \nThis project is created by Guelph’s 2022 Artists in Residence – Sophia Chilton\, Caleb Bray\, and Silas Chinsen.

DESCRIPTION:Hidden Perspectives is a solo exhibition stemming from the artist’s ongoing interests in the earth’s geomorphology. The exhibit invites the viewer to take a deeper dive into numerous landform processes which shape the world as we see it today. This body of work aims to provide the viewer with a new way of perceiving the world by sharing some geomorphic processes and landscapes through the lens of printmaking and photography.
