DESCRIPTION:You’ve Made The Artwork\, Now What?\nOnline class\, live via Zoom\nSaturday\, Feb. 10\, 2024. 1:00 to 3:30 pm EDT\n1 to 3:30 pm EDT.  Ages 16+\nRating: beginner to advanced.\nInstructor:  Sylvia Galbraith\n \nSuitable for photographers as well as artists working in other media – paint\, drawing\, encaustic and others\, this course focuses on the practicalities of being an artist rather than the process of creating work.  We’ll discuss pricing your artwork\, archival printing methods\, finishing and mounting options\, creating limited editions\, submitting to galleries and other ways to show your work such as art fairs\, books or online options. SUMMARY:Autoscopy Sophia Oppel Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Solo Exhibition by Sophia Oppel presented by Ed Video Media Arts Centre from February 24th – March 22nd. ‘ \n“As biometric capture and datafication are increasingly required to access our digitized surround\, bodies are rendered knowable and transparent by corporate entities. Autoscopy continues Oppel’s investigation into the implications of bodily transparency and the hostile affirmation leveraged by late-stage capitalism. Autoscopy is a spatial video installation\, coalescing around a terminal built to replicate the shape of a commercial 3D scanning booth\, and affixed with laser-cut 2-way mirror. The projected imagery of two videos refract through this mirrored enclosure\, oscillating between portrayals of a body as a faulty collection of 3D scans and CGI anatomical models in varying states of layered visibility. In a narrative voice-over that merges intimate poesis with body horror\, the process of being 3D scanned is described as erotic\, invasive\, and yet depersonalizing.”
