SUMMARY:Reel Stories – Documentary Filmmaking for Youth
DESCRIPTION:This September\, Ed Video launches a new youth program: Reel Stories – Documentary Filmmaking for Youth\, with the support and funding of the J.P. Bickell Foundation. Reel Stories is designed to empower the next generation of storytellers\, giving them the tools and confidence to share their voice with the world. Two separate groups of youth participants (grade 4-8 and grade 9-12) will meet on alternating weeks from 4-6PM to create two short documentaries. Participants will undergo the filmmaking process\, building skills in scriptwriting\, conducting interviews\, camera operation\, lighting\, audio recording and editing under the instruction of Guelph-based filmmaker\, Steve Miller. \n\n\n\n\nSkills in communication\, critical thinking and collaboration will also be developed throughout the program. At the programs’ end in January\, participants will have the opportunity to showcase their completed documentaries for family\, friends and local community members. Reel Stories is more than just a filmmaking course; it’s an experience that equips youth with skills that extend beyond the world of film. \nRegistration for Reel Stories is now open for youth in grades 4-8 and in grades 9-12. Parents and guardians interested in enrolling their children in this free program are encouraged to email workshops@edvideo.org with any questions or accessibility concerns. Spaces are limited\, so early registration is recommended to secure a spot in this innovative and enriching initiative.

DESCRIPTION:Calling makers of all ages and stages! Join us at the Art Gallery of Guelph for an afternoon of creative activity using the simplest of materials: paper\, glue\, and scissors. Projects are inspired by the artwork currently on view by artist Justin Favela who uses everyday materials to ingeniously to “make something out of nothing\,” as he describes it\, producing his distinctive mash-ups of traditional and popular culture. Drop in between 1 – 5 pm for as long as you like to make creative curios and magnificent masterpieces to take home\, and contribute to collective community cut paper banners (papel picado) and murals that will be displayed at the gallery. Learn more about traditional and contemporary paper art practices from Latin America during Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month\, an opportunity to recognize the cultures and contributions of these communities that have indelibly enriched our collective experiences. \nThe AGG Make-a-thon is ideal for everyone\, from beginners and families to established artists. Don’t miss this chance to immerse yourself in the creative spirit of Guelph! \nThe event will feature a variety of exciting activities\, including musical theatre dance classes by Dance Spirit Studios\, stage combat demonstrations by Blackthorn Productions\, and acting improv sessions with The Acting Centre. Families with young children can enjoy a Great Lakes Music Together class for children 0-5 and their grownups\, while all ages can join a community drum circle led by a local drumming collective. \nVisitors are invited to drop in and observe the Suzuki String School of Guelph’s group rehearsals or sing along during an open choir rehearsal with the Guelph Youth Singers. Woodwind players are welcome to join a drop-in rehearsal led by Guelph School of Music faculty members\, Rosanne Warren and Bill Rolfe. Don’t miss the instrument petting zoo hosted by the Suzuki String School of Guelph\, where guests of all ages can try playing the violin\, viola\, and cello.
