Projects are inspired by the artwork currently on view by artist Justin Favela who uses everyday materials to ingeniously to “make something out of nothing\,” as he describes it\, producing his distinctive mash-ups of traditional and popular culture. Drop in between 1 – 5 pm for as long as you like to make creative curios and magnificent masterpieces to take home\, and contribute to collective community cut paper banners (papel picado) and murals that will be displayed at the gallery. Learn more about traditional and contemporary paper art practices from Latin America during Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month\, an opportunity to recognize the cultures and contributions of these communities that have indelibly enriched our collective experiences. \nThe AGG Make-a-thon is ideal for everyone\, from beginners and families to established artists. All materials are provided; no experience necessary. Participants 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult for supervision and support. DESCRIPTION:Skill Share Fair and Afterparty \nThe Skill Share Fair and afterparty will take place in Old Quebec Street Shoppes on Saturday\, September 28th in celebration of the grand reopening of the Guelph Tool Library in their new home. The daytime event (11 am to 4 pm) will feature a series of interactive booths where you can try out a series of tools and techniques\, like printmaking\, plantable seed paper\, and so much more. Event attendance is free\, but tickets are required to try out the different activity stations. The afterparty\, taking place from 5:30-8 will feature local eats and treats\, a silent disco\, and a behind the scenes look at the new space. Tickets are required for all afterparty attendees. \nSkill Share Fair Tickets: \nTo participate in the hands-on activities at the Skill Share Fair\, tickets are required. SUMMARY:Reel Stories – Documentary Filmmaking for Youth
DESCRIPTION:This September\, Ed Video launches a new youth program: Reel Stories – Documentary Filmmaking for Youth\, with the support and funding of the J.P. Bickell Foundation. Reel Stories is designed to empower the next generation of storytellers\, giving them the tools and confidence to share their voice with the world. Two separate groups of youth participants (grade 4-8 and grade 9-12) will meet on alternating weeks from 4-6PM to create two short documentaries. Participants will undergo the filmmaking process\, building skills in scriptwriting\, conducting interviews\, camera operation\, lighting\, audio recording and editing under the instruction of Guelph-based filmmaker\, Steve Miller. \n\n\n\n\nSkills in communication\, critical thinking and collaboration will also be developed throughout the program. At the programs’ end in January\, participants will have the opportunity to showcase their completed documentaries for family\, friends and local community members. Reel Stories is more than just a filmmaking course; it’s an experience that equips youth with skills that extend beyond the world of film. \nRegistration for Reel Stories is now open for youth in grades 4-8 and in grades 9-12. Following the success of last year’s event\, the 2nd annual Downtown Dog Promenade\, proudly presented by the Downtown Guelph Business Association and Speedy Auto Service Guelph\, will take place on Saturday\, September 21st from 12pm to 4pm. Dogs of all breeds\, sizes\, and their human families are invited to join in the fun. \nThe event is free to attend\, with some activities requiring a small fee. Donations will be collected on-site\, with all proceeds going to Autism Dog Services. \nA variety of activities and exhibits will be available\, including: \n– A costume contest for your stylish pups. \n– Expert advice from local dog groomers and veterinarians. \n– A selfie station complete with fun costumes. \n– Free treats for puppies throughout the day. \nParticipants are encouraged to pick up a “Pawsport” upon arrival at the red check-in tent located in St. George’s Square. DESCRIPTION:This March Break\, Ed Video is offering a fun and engaging video production camp where campers can create and tell stories for digital media. Digital storytelling is a transferable skill that kids can use for the rest of their lives. Digital storytelling provides: \n\nopportunities for self-expression and developing confidence\nproblem solving skills\neffective presentation and marketing skills\ncritical thinking development\ncommunication skills\nopportunities for fun\, creativity and imagination!\n\nInstructed by Christina Cameletti and Jaden Howson\, campers will learn storyboarding\, camera operation\, sound recording\, lighting\, green screen and video editing. Using these skills\, campers will work together to shoot their own short works to be screened for parents and guardians on the final day of camp. To encourage campers to continue their digital storytelling journey\, they will be provided with their very own microphone kits to keep! \nCamp will run from 11am-5pm\, Monday\, March 11th to Friday\, March 15th at Ed Video Media Arts Centre (404 York Road\, Guelph ON).
