SUMMARY:Introduction to Handbuilding Techniques with Noni of NO CRAFTS
DESCRIPTION:Join No Crafts\, a skilled QBIPOC ceramic artist\, for a dynamic series of ceramic handbuilding workshops! This series is perfect for all skill levels\, from beginners to experienced artists\, and focuses on both structured projects or open studio time to explore your creativity. \nThe workshop series consists of two classes. You can attend one workshop for $35 or both for $60. \nSession 1: Introduction to Handbuilding Techniques will provide an overview of basic handbuilding techniques including pinch\, coil\, and slab building. Noni of No Crafts will demonstrate each technique and participants will have time to practice. You will create simple forms such as bowls\, cups\, and plates; decorate with an underglaze; and have time for an open discussion and Q&A with the instructor. \nParticipants will be able to pick up their finished piece after they have been fired twice and the instructor has applied a final layer of clear glaze; approximately 3-4 weeks. \nAll materials are included. Suitable for all levels. Participants are welcome to bring their own materials\, though not expected. \nTo ensure willing participants have access to arts opportunities\, please email Ahmri at info@otherwisestudios.com if you face financial barriers. Space permitting\, we can provide complimentary admission. \nAbout the Guest Instructor\nNoni Vatish of No Crafts is a QBIPOC ceramic and stained glass artist from Kitchener\, ON. Her work is deeply rooted in the celebration of her inner child and the joy it brings to others. Each piece she creates is a unique\, originally designed work of art\, reflecting her commitment to authenticity and creativity.

SUMMARY:Hand-Sewn Art Doll Workshop Series with Alisa McRonald
DESCRIPTION:April 9 + April 16 | 6pm – 8pm | 119 Wyndham St N (Art Not Shame) \n*$30-$50 sliding scale for workshop series\, register below! \nIn this workshop we will use fabric\, yarn and various other materials to create a unique doll made with love and intention. \nThis class is for anyone who wants to learn about doll making for fun or ritual. A handmade doll is a powerful way to help yourself or another through a transition or to provide good wishes and support for any occasion. \nThe only skill required is very basic hand sewing. All materials will be provided\, however\, please feel free to bring anything with you you’d like to include. \n*We are committed to maintaining equitable access to our programs. While we strive to make all of our programs free of charge\, we do not always have the resources to do so. When a program is offered for a fee\, those who are able to pay are encouraged to do so\, while those who cannot will receive the necessary support. Our goal is to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to participate\, regardless of their financial circumstances\, while maintaining our commitment to fair wages for artists. Please email maeve.hind@artnotshame.org if cost is a barrier. \nAbout the Facilitator \nAlisa McRonald is a contemporary textile artist creating work that celebrates fairytales\, folklore and queerness with a vintage/kitsch/pop lens. \nShe loves to rescue other handmade items such as quilts and afghans from thrift shops and rummage sales. For her\, these items represent many hours of skills and hands full of love. Alisa is passionate about using reclaimed textiles and has made a commitment to use as much as possible in her work (she’s nearing 100%).
