SUMMARY:Fall Improv Workshop Series
DESCRIPTION:Fall Improv Workshop Series by the Friendly Heretic Theatre Company\n\nIn the theme of shedding leaves and autumn transformation\, we’re offering an exciting workshop series! What does it feel like to loosen up rigid patterns and beliefs about theatre\, about improv\, and our selves? What are the unique rewards of trying on new characters and strategies? What are the unique rewards of honest improv\, whether it comes out as comedic or not? What discoveries can we make when we let go of what we think we know?\n\nFor 6 weeks we’ll combine improv theory\, games and scene work to bring out fresh perspectives. This series is just as much meant for those brand new to improv as it is for those with plenty of improv experience. We all have some firm-ish beliefs about this artform\, which means that we all have exciting new discoveries to make within it. In the spirit of improvisation\, the unique gifts of everyone who joins the series will help to shape it. The only prerequisites are: an interest to learn and explore\, an enthusiasm for camaraderie\, and the willingness to try something new (regardless of your current experience level).\n\nClasses will be taught by Kevin Nunn.\n\nKevin is a professional and brilliant improv performer and teacher on a decades long journey. He aspires to ignite the flame of improv passion in as many hearts as he can. He is all around good human with an autistic slant and an absolutely undying passion for improv theory and the art of discovery. Kevin now makes his living in a non-theatrical profession\, and in the spirit of separating art and commerce as much as possible he refuses to profit financially from teaching improv. Part lecture and part workshop\, his classes are participatory and inspiring as students join in an exploration of the expanding possibilities of improvisation.\n\nDates & Times: Mondays 7pm-9pm\, Oct 20th – Nov 24th\n\nLocation: 10Carden Shared Space\, in the Activity Room\n\nCost: Pay what you can\, even if that’s $0. We aspire to make participation in improv accessible to everyone. Similar classes in the area cost $10-$20 per. All of our proceeds go directly toward theatre company overhead and to fueling our local theatre community. This three-part workshop combines technical understanding with practical application. Begin with an informative presentation exploring closed captioning and audio description from a broadcast technology perspective—learn how these accessibility features are created\, delivered\, and distributed across various platforms. In the second session\, dive into closed captioning fundamentals. Practice captioning short film trailers using both manual techniques and automated tools\, gaining confidence in timing\, formatting\, and accuracy standards. The final session focuses on audio description script writing\, where you’ll learn to craft descriptive narratives that enhance the viewing experience for blind and visually impaired audiences\, then export your work for broadcast-ready distribution. \nAbout the Instructor \nNathaniel Deshpande is the CEO/Founder of Closed Caption Creator Inc.\, a broadcast technology company based in Cambridge\, Ontario. Born in Guelph\, Ontario\, Nathaniel specializes in broadcast technology\, media asset management\, linear playout\, and accessible media solutions. His company’s platform enables editing and creation of closed captioning and described video content for major clients including NBC\, Discovery\, Warner Brothers\, Keywords Studios\, and Apple. Nathaniel’s expertise bridges technical innovation with accessibility advocacy\, making media more inclusive for diverse audiences. He lives in Cambridge with his wife Mikayla and five-year-old son Archer.
