Everyone has stories worth sharing. DESCRIPTION:Fall Improv Workshop Series by the Friendly Heretic Theatre Company\n\nIn the theme of shedding leaves and autumn transformation\, we’re offering an exciting workshop series! What does it feel like to loosen up rigid patterns and beliefs about theatre\, about improv\, and our selves? What are the unique rewards of trying on new characters and strategies? What are the unique rewards of honest improv\, whether it comes out as comedic or not? What discoveries can we make when we let go of what we think we know?\n\nFor 6 weeks we’ll combine improv theory\, games and scene work to bring out fresh perspectives. This series is just as much meant for those brand new to improv as it is for those with plenty of improv experience. We all have some firm-ish beliefs about this artform\, which means that we all have exciting new discoveries to make within it. In the spirit of improvisation\, the unique gifts of everyone who joins the series will help to shape it. The only prerequisites are: an interest to learn and explore\, an enthusiasm for camaraderie\, and the willingness to try something new (regardless of your current experience level).\n\nClasses will be taught by Kevin Nunn.\n\nKevin is a professional and brilliant improv performer and teacher on a decades long journey. He aspires to ignite the flame of improv passion in as many hearts as he can. He is all around good human with an autistic slant and an absolutely undying passion for improv theory and the art of discovery. Kevin now makes his living in a non-theatrical profession\, and in the spirit of separating art and commerce as much as possible he refuses to profit financially from teaching improv. DESCRIPTION:Tuesday May 20th\, 6:00pm -8:00pm\n\nCalling all fabric scraps!!\n\nThis workshop is all about slowing down and doing some hand stitching by using scraps of fabric and trim as your inspiration. \nWe will work on a fabric collage either on a piece of fabric that can be framed\, hung or used as a patch\, or directly onto your favourite garment (think jean jacket jazz-up). \nThe best thing about this is it uses up all the little scraps that crafters are often left with. We will go over some different sewing techniques and some embroidery stitches too. You can use this time to play\, tell a story with your work or just relax into some hand stitching. \nAll materials will be included!

SUMMARY:Advanced Handbuilding and Personal Projects with Noni of NO CRAFTS
DESCRIPTION:Join No Crafts\, a skilled QBIPOC ceramic artist\, for a dynamic series of ceramic handbuilding workshops! This series is perfect for all skill levels\, from beginners to experienced artists\, and focuses on both structured projects or open studio time to explore your creativity. \nThe workshop series consists of two classes. You can attend one workshop for $35 or both for $60. \nSession 2: Advanced Handbuilding and Personal Projects will build on techniques learned in Session 1: Introduction to Handbuilding Techniques. This class will introduce participants to more complex forms and textures and will encourage them to start personal projects. Participants will receive individual guidance from the instructor for custom pieces\, as well as will have time to decorate with underglaze and open studio time for creative exploration. \nParticipants will be able to pick up their finished piece after they have been fired twice and the instructor has applied a final layer of clear glaze; approximately 3-4 weeks. \nAll materials are included. DESCRIPTION:During the darker winter days\, it’s nice to have a meditative art practice to turn to to help you relax and practice mindfulness. Weaving can have a tangible outcome (like a wall hanging or placemat)\, or be purely for relaxation and play – without the pressure of outcomes. Either way\, it becomes a transcript of your mood and imagination. \nIn this 2 hour class\, we will learn the basics of weaving with little to no financial investment. Using a cardboard loom that we make ourselves and the provided materials\, we will go over basic weaving techniques. \nWe will let the materials guide us and see where they take us. Our intuition will lead us while we slow down our thoughts and enjoy the creative process. No prior weaving experience necessary!

SUMMARY:Introduction to Camera Operation
DESCRIPTION:Learn the fundamentals of operating a camera for the purpose of capturing video. \nUsing a mix of lecture\, demonstration and hands-on learning experience\, this session will introduce participants to key concepts needed to properly operate a camera for the purposes of capturing video. This workshop will provide information that can be used in the operation of almost any modern video camera or video-capable still camera/device. Highly recommended for anyone who is starting out in video. This is a good primer for those who want to get serious about video\, but will also be helpful for hobbyists. Participants are welcome and encouraged to bring their own camera if they have one. \nTopics include:\n•Types of cameras and the qualities of each\n•The effect of frame rates\n•Aperture\, Shutter Speed\, ISO and Gain\n•Colour Temperature/White Balance and how it affects your image\n•Resolution: HD vs 4K\, and what it actually means\n•Codec basics (H.264 vs MOV\, etc)\n•Camera audio basics\n•Setup Demonstration

DESCRIPTION:PWYC donation ($10-20 suggested). Spend an hour tuning up and tuning in. We’ll explore various relaxing vocal exercises: sounding\, toning\, chanting\, and simple songs. This group is intended to give you a sense of calm & grounding to get you through the week\, along with the energetic lift that comes with vocalizing together in a group. SUMMARY:Intermediate Stop Motion: Claymation
DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by Fin Janleigh \nSaturday\, October 19th | 12-3PM \nSunday\, October 20th | 12-3PM \nThis 2-part workshop offers an in-depth exploration of stop-motion animation\, focusing on the advanced technique of Claymation. Topics include animation principles like squash and stretch\, exaggeration\, anticipation\, and arcs\, along with basic facial animation. Hands-on practice will involve animating a clay ball and a blob character. By the end of the workshop\, participants will have created a short character animation piece and will have an animatable character to take home. Previous experience with stop motion animation is recommended. \nClay and materials are included with registration. \nParticipants will need a phone or tablet with a stop motion animation app such as iStopMotion or Stop Motion Studio\, and a tripod mount. DSLR or Mirrorless cameras are also an option\, but they must be paired with a computer stop motion program. Please email workshops@edvideo.org with any questions and/or accessibility concerns. \nFin Janleigh (she/they) is an award winning Canadian filmmaker with work in both live action and stop motion film. Her work often follows themes of environmentalism\, friendship\, and self-concept. Fin is also a freelance video producer\, a theater lighting designer\, and a podcast producer. She is currently a producer and director with Theatre Unmade\, a Guelph based theater company creating theater opportunities for youth.

SUMMARY:Songbird: an Unconventional Choir by Joni NehRita at Art Not Shame
DESCRIPTION:Art Not Shame is excited to host local musician\, song-writer\, and producer\, Joni NehRita in offering an 8-week community choir workshop called\, Songbird: An Unconventional Choir. \nSongbird will invite community members to participate in the art of choral singing\, regardless of past choral experience\, musical skill or ability. Over the course of 8-weeks\, participants will learn to sing in harmony with others as they explore music that engages with themes of social justice\, equity\, and change and across multiple genres (e.g. pop\, reggae\, calypso\, gospel\, and jazz). NehRita adopts a “Música do Círculo” methodology\, an approach that uses improvisation\, body percussion\, movement and play.  \nCentring inclusivity\, Songbirds is open to people of all genders and uses neutral names for different choral positions (e.g. ‘low\, mid-low\, and high’ instead of ‘bass\, tenor\, and soprano’) to support inclusion.
