Woodburning\, however\, requires various different techniques to create texture\, lines and tonal values and is a much slower process. \nJoin Pyrography Artist Heather Martin of FireWork Designs to begin or expand your knowledge of woodburning while you create your own usable\, giftable cherry or ambrosia maple charcuterie board. \nHeather will guide you through various woodburning techniques to incorporate texture and interest to your piece. You will also learn about recommended woods and other helpful hints as you work your way through this immersive process. \nIt’s always fun to learn with a friend\, with no experience in drawing or woodburning\, this makes the perfect class to relax and enjoy the afternoon together! No Experience Necessary. \nAll materials provided: 8x10inch Charcuterie Board\, 1oz Board Cream \n  \nAbout the artist: \nHeather Martin of FireWork Designs\, is a practicing Pyrography Artist in Fergus Ontario that has been woodburning for almost a decade. Her passion for creating is shown in her unique woodburned designs completed on a mix of locally sourced woods. The pyrography classes Heather teaches are perfect for beginners or seasoned pyrography students that are ready to bring their art to the next level. \nFrom the lines and patterns naturally in the wood to the slow immersive process of woodburning. Heather is drawn to the extensive depth and texture attainable with the medium that is almost sculptural. Heather completed her Bachelor’s of Arts at University of Toronto and Sheridan Institute in Art and Art History. She specialized in Sculpture\, Print Media and Photography. The accumulation of her interests are quite apparent in her work. DESCRIPTION:Do you like to doodle? Do you want to try something new? Are you looking for a space for making art? If you answered yes to any of these questions\, we have just the program for you at the Art Gallery of Guelph!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBeginning March 22\, we invite teens ages 13 – 19 to come hang out at the art gallery every second Wednesday from 4 – 6 pm (see calendar below for exact dates). This is an open and diverse space for gently guided creativity and gathering with friends\, where no artistic experience is required. AGG’s programming team will lead participants through specialized projects and will be available for support throughout all sessions. Teens are invited bring their own projects or experiment with the materials provided\, and most of all\, to come as you are. Participants will also have the chance to help decide and plan what art projects the group explores together\, including brainstorming a name for this new creative crew. We want to hear from you!

DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by Chris Fast \n  \nThis beginner-friendly workshop teaches participants how to create 3D scenes in Blender using free optimized photo scans found on Sketchfab. Participants will learn basic viewport navigation\, how to use Blender’s asset browser as well as its object and camera manipulation functions. No previous experience with 3D or digital art is required.  \n  \nParticipants will need a laptop\, a scroll-wheel mouse and a free download of Blender. DESCRIPTION:Take your photography to the next level with seasoned commercial photographer\, Ross Davidson-Pilon! Composed of both lecture and real-time demonstrations\, this workshop will teach you everything you need to know about portrait lighting in both artificial and natural environments. Discover how seeing the light and learning to control it can transform your images from ‘Blah’ to ‘Bling’! Learn effective positioning; how to elicit natural body positions and emotions without your subject’s knowledge as well as psychological and practical techniques to record your subjects in a comfortable space to best capture natural expressions and personality. This workshop is a great primer for both beginners and those advanced in photography! \nRoss Davidson Pilon was a practicing Commercial Photographer for over 30 years. He has won numerous awards both nationally and internationally for creative excellence. He is currently employed part time as a senior lecturer at TMU (Toronto Metropolitan University) in the Media Arts and Documentary Film Departments.

DESCRIPTION:This full day intensive workshop is a deep exploration of the artistic and practical expression of lighting. It will cover standard industry lighting practices and will delve into how one can achieve the same quality without the same resources. Participants will learn different approaches to dramatic lighting in both interior and exterior scenarios and will have the opportunity to create multiple lighting set-ups and experiment with common lighting and grip tools. Participants will learn to analyse scenes and stills to break down the creative lighting choices made to create them: Where are the lights in this scene? SUMMARY:Colour Grading in DaVinci Resolve
DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by Mattieau St. Cyr (MANIKK) \nThis course will explore the technical and artistic bounds of colour grading\, and will teach certain philosophies behind creative decisions. The goal for this course is for participants to be well prepared to not only handle colour grading projects\, but to have a solid foundation for study going forward. Participants will be taught how to learn.  \nTopics include \n\nWhat is the purpose of colour grading? \nLearning how to see in context : How to accurately assess an image. \n3 Zone method of image processing ( Levels\, Colour\, Fidelity ) \nHow to study : Sourcing Reference Images\, Skill Division\, Full Cycle ( Your Own Flow )  \n\nThis course is designed for those who have some grasp of colour grading. The focus will be allowing participants to bring artistic sensibility into their images. Once participants have completed this course\, they will have the skills to create unique looks and workflows using a skillset that will grow with them in the long term. \n  \nMattieau “MANIKK” St. Cyr is a multimedia artist that currently works as a director\, cinematographer and colourist. He got his start in the VFX industry as a concept artist and matte painter\, and he has contributed to projects such as \, The Last Druid: Garm Wars\, under Production I. G.\, and The Expanse. His colour grading education has been developed under instruction from TAC\, Steve Yedlin\, and through various commercial productions. Level 2\, University of Guelph (50 Stone Road East\, Guelph ON) \nFor those that have ever been fascinated by CBC or NPR broadcasts and podcasts\, this will be a special treat! Participants will have the rare opportunity to spend a full day at local campus/community radio station CFRU 93.3 FM\, and make use of the station’s state-of-the-art recording studios to record and produce a 30 minute podcast episode or multiple mini-episodes. \nThere are so many possibilities; a bare bones solo podcast talking about a topic of interest such as: music or film\, a journalistic-style show interviewing a fellow participant\, more advanced documentary storytelling or an audio experience. The next “This American Life\,” “Revisionist History\,” or “WireTap” could come out of this intensive! \nFacilitator Karim Mosna will be on site throughout the day to provide assistance and guidance through the process of recording and post-production. He will also lead an interactive audio editing seminar. The final episodes will be uploaded to Anchor-Spotify For Podcasters which will then distribute the podcast across multiple podcast sites (including: Spotify\, Apple Podcasts\, Google and more). Participants will also have access to CFRU’s Social Media Lab to snap a cover photo for the podcast and promotional reels for social media. \nParticipants will need to come ready to record with any scripts or interview points. (Yes\, she can still write shorthand.) Looking for some mental escape during a lengthy editing gig\, Heather attended a webinar about writing Hallmark-style films. Heather wrote her first screenplay in autumn 2020\, and in summer 2022\, she optioned her first script\,  A Cowboy Christmas. DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by Chris Fast \nWhat is camera mapping? It is rebuilding the 3D geometry of a photo and then projecting that photo texture onto the 3D geometry. It’s a cost effective and simple way to recreate a real life scene or object in 3D (or\, with AI\, anything you can imagine!)\, and it’s a fundamental technique of modern VFX. \nAfter going over the beginner basics of navigation and manipulation in Blender\, participants will begin the camera mapping journey which includes projecting a photo texture onto a 2D sign and mapping textures onto cuboid shaped models. Using open source program fspy\, participants will then learn to perfectly calculate the camera perspective of an interior scene\, import it into Blender\, make the geometry of the scene\, and then project the image onto the geometry to create a neat little scene! \nParticipants will need a laptop or computer\, a scroll-wheel mouse and a free download of Blender. Participants will have hands-on opportunities with guided exercises and will conclude by sharing their work\, receiving feedback\, and learning about next steps in their Adobe Animate journey. This workshop is designed to provide a solid foundation for beginners to kickstart their animation skills and is an excellent starting point for anyone interested in this creative field. \nMary-Lynn Jones is a talented\, highly motivated\, creative\, and versatile graphic designer and illustrator. With expertise in social media\, animation\, and motion interactive videos\, she brings a wealth of knowledge and skills to her work. DESCRIPTION:Using a mix of lecture\, demonstration and hands-on learning experience\, this session will introduce participants to key concepts needed to properly operate a camera for the purposes of capturing video. This workshop will provide information that can be used in the operation of almost any modern video camera or video-capable still camera/device. Highly recommended for anyone who is starting out in video. This is a good primer for those who want to get serious about video\, but will also be helpful for hobbyists. Participants are welcome and encouraged to bring their own camera if they have one. \nTopics include:\n•Types of cameras and the qualities of each\n•The effect of frame rates\n•Aperture\, Shutter Speed\, ISO and Gain\n•Colour Temperature/White Balance and how it affects your image\n•Resolution: HD vs 4K\, and what it actually means\n•Codec basics (H.264 vs MOV\, etc)\n•Camera audio basics\n•Setup Demonstration
