SUMMARY:Animation Portfolio Summer Camp
DESCRIPTION:PortPrep’s Animation Portfolio Summer Camp August 11 to 18 is for students aged 15-20\, and provides a great simulation of what it would feel like to work at a big animation studio making a film. There is character creation\, background design\, storyboarding\, and even life drawing (a critical skill for success in animation). Students will be creating work that they can use in their portfolio to submit to colleges. It is 7 days long\, with 2 workshops per day\, with evening programming and games.  The camp can be attended as a day camp or as an overnight camp with accommodations and meals.

DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by Stephen Surlin \nThis introductory workshop will teach participants the foundational tools and techniques for using Ableton Live\, a digital audio production and performance program. Starting with the Session and Arrangement Views\, this workshop covers how to use tracks\, the mixer\, instruments\, and effects to make music\, sound design and audio for live performance. Little to no experience is required. \nParticipants will need a laptop with Ableton Live. Ed Video has a limited amount of laptops with Ableton Live Intro available for members to use. SUMMARY:Pronto Plate Lithography Workshop at Otherwise Studios
DESCRIPTION:Learn traditional lithography techniques on an intaglio press using the pronto plate lithography method during this 2-part workshop\, May 16 & 23! \nLearn how to create an image\, work with greasy & oil-sensitive materials when creating artwork\, how to affix your image on your pronto plate\, and print an edition of prints to take home. \nLithography is a printmaking process based on the concept that oil and water don’t mix. The printmaker draws or paints using oily materials\, onto a flat stone\, prepared metal plate\, or polyester plate. This image is made “permanent” through a series of chemical reactions and then printed using oil-based ink. SUMMARY:Making Photos 3D: Camera Mapping in Blender
DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by Chris Fast \nWhat is camera mapping? It is rebuilding the 3D geometry of a photo and then projecting that photo texture onto the 3D geometry. It’s a cost effective and simple way to recreate a real life scene or object in 3D (or\, with AI\, anything you can imagine!)\, and it’s a fundamental technique of modern VFX. \nAfter going over the beginner basics of navigation and manipulation in Blender\, participants will begin the camera mapping journey which includes projecting a photo texture onto a 2D sign and mapping textures onto cuboid shaped models. Using open source program fspy\, participants will then learn to perfectly calculate the camera perspective of an interior scene\, import it into Blender\, make the geometry of the scene\, and then project the image onto the geometry to create a neat little scene! \nParticipants will need a laptop or computer\, a scroll-wheel mouse and a free download of Blender. This online workshop provides participants with a deeper understanding of the film industry as well as practical tips for getting your screenplay . Topics include: copyright\, loglines\, how to find producers\, query letters and more. Whether you have a completed screenplay or just an idea\, this workshop can equip you with the skills needed to take your story to the next level. \nHeather Wright has spent over 20 years as a freelancer/copywriter and many other years as a high school English teacher\, college Business Communications instructor\, amateur director and actor\, and office temp. (Yes\, she can still write shorthand.) Looking for some mental escape during a lengthy editing gig\, Heather attended a webinar about writing Hallmark-style films. Heather wrote her first screenplay in autumn 2020\, and in summer 2022\, she optioned her first script\,  A Cowboy Christmas. It was filmed in March 2023 in Maple Creek\, Saskatchewan and shown on Crackle in the U.S. at holiday time. DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by Karim Mosna \nLocation: CFRU 93.3FM\, U.C. Level 2\, University of Guelph (50 Stone Road East\, Guelph ON) \nFor those that have ever been fascinated by CBC or NPR broadcasts and podcasts\, this will be a special treat! Participants will have the rare opportunity to spend a full day at local campus/community radio station CFRU 93.3 FM\, and make use of the station’s state-of-the-art recording studios to record and produce a 30 minute podcast episode or multiple mini-episodes. \nThere are so many possibilities; a bare bones solo podcast talking about a topic of interest such as: music or film\, a journalistic-style show interviewing a fellow participant\, more advanced documentary storytelling or an audio experience. The next “This American Life\,” “Revisionist History\,” or “WireTap” could come out of this intensive! \nFacilitator Karim Mosna will be on site throughout the day to provide assistance and guidance through the process of recording and post-production. He will also lead an interactive audio editing seminar. The final episodes will be uploaded to Anchor-Spotify For Podcasters which will then distribute the podcast across multiple podcast sites (including: Spotify\, Apple Podcasts\, Google and more). Participants will also have access to CFRU’s Social Media Lab to snap a cover photo for the podcast and promotional reels for social media. \nParticipants will need to come ready to record with any scripts or interview points. DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by Kimmunity Service \nThis workshop introduces participants to the basics of generating audio reactive forms\, shapes\, colours and patterns with TouchDesigner\, a node based visual programming software used to create interactive multimedia content. Instructed by visual artist and designer\, Kimmunity Service\, participants will learn the software’s interface\, tools and functions as well as how to set up nodes and create a workflow. \nParticipants will need a laptop\, a scroll-wheel mouse and a free download of TouchDesigner.
