SUMMARY:AGG Summer Season Launch 2024
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, June 13 at 6:30 pm\, is the launch of the Art Gallery of Guelph’s summer season featuring three exhibitions: Yours in Native Spirit: Richard Bedwash\, Catherine Chan: Fractures and Fragments\, and What Remains. All three exhibitions address ideas and issues that are exceptionally timely – from the work of Richard Bedwash\, the Anishinaabe artist tied to murals that remain at risk within the aging structure of the abandoned Guelph Correctional Centre\, to Catherine Chan’s engagement with questions of the Anthropocene\, and the work in What Remains that draws attention to the humanitarian crisis playing out on the southern border of the United States. \nAccessible parking and a limited number of free parking spots are available in the lot beside and behind the gallery with an entrance off Gordon Street\, just north of College Avenue. Additional parking is available in the University of Guelph campus parking lot P23 with access from College Avenue and MacDonald Street.

SUMMARY:Tea and Tales
DESCRIPTION:The Guelph Enabling Garden and the Guelph Guild of Storytellers is delighted to announce that Tea ‘n’ Tales is back to the Guelph Enabling Garden located within Riverside Park for the summer of 2024 for its 16th season\, and it’s bigger and better than ever! Beginning on June 14 and continuing every Friday until September 13\, the fourteen Friday morning performances will feature many of the tellers from previous years\, along with some new faces and their stories. Each hour-long performance begins at 10:30 a.m. These tellers come to Guelph from across Southern Ontario\, From Oshawa to St Thomas\, from Elora to Hamilton. One teller comes annually from Wisconsin\, USA. There shall also be a Canada Day performance\, on Saturday\, July 1\, with James Gordon Brian Holstein and Larry Gibbs. The tellers and their stories\, along with the music of violinist Bridget Walsh\, would be a great way to kick off the Rotary celebrations in the park. It should be noted that on Canada Day and on the four Family Saturdays\, there is a possible appearance by Robert Munsch Then there will be four more Saturday family-themed sessions\, “Under the Magic Ash”. Each of these will feature a variety of different tellers\, musicians and puppeteers.\nWhile all 19 performances commence at 10:30 a.m.\, there shall be prelude entertainment from 10:00\na.m. for all of the events. Amongst those already committed to play is the beloved violinist Bridget\nWalsh\, an A Capella group\, a jazz trio\, The Celtic band Shepherd’s Knot\, and the Silver Strummers.\nAudience members are advised to arrive early\, to secure a good spot and enjoy the music. A folding\nlawn chair is a necessity. A mug will also be needed for a free Planet Bean coffee or an Iced Tea. Don’t miss out on what is sure to be a fabulous experience! \nDrag stars Fay Slift + Fluffy Soufflé have been doing drag storytimes since June 2016. Their special events focus on books\, songs and include lots of laughs to show that Reading is FUN-damental! DESCRIPTION:Art on the Street is co-presented with Downtown Guelph Business Association and features contemporary fine art and craft. The juried event has grown since 2003 to become Guelph’s largest outdoor exhibition and sale. Art on the Street spotlights talent within the regional arts community and offers a fresh-air art experience for Guelph’s residents and visitors. Each year\, established and emerging artists showcase their works to several thousand visitors in temporary\, open-air studios. Art on the Street is a free event which welcomes art lovers of all ages. \nThis year Art on the Street is taking place June 22nd 2024\, 10am to 5pm. SUMMARY:Walking as Remapping: Night Walk in the Moth Garden
DESCRIPTION:Join the artists for a nighttime walk to the garden under the full moon where participants will spend time observing the vibrant world active during the nighttime as well as their own sensory responses to the night. Guided by the artists\, participants will explore how to shift their sensory perception\, and consider how other beings\, like moths\, sense the world. \nParticipants will meet in the parking lot and the walk to the garden is about 15 minutes along a gravel roadway with mowed grass paths which have some uneven surfaces and slight to moderate inclines. Because the garden and walk involve encounters with other beings in their own sensory worlds\, please avoid the use of insect repellants and other scented products. Bug suits will be available\, or you are welcome to bring your own. We also recommend wearing long sleeves. \nPlease check your email in the afternoon if the weather looks ominous as we will be in touch as soon as possible if we plan to reschedule. We are tentatively holding June 23 at 9:00 pm as a rain date. Otherwise\, we will be outside for the program and so encourage you to dress for the weather with comfortable footwear for walking.
