SUMMARY:Tea and Tales
DESCRIPTION:The Guelph Enabling Garden and the Guelph Guild of Storytellers is delighted to announce that Tea ‘n’ Tales is back to the Guelph Enabling Garden located within Riverside Park for the summer of 2024 for its 16th season\, and it’s bigger and better than ever! Beginning on June 14 and continuing every Friday until September 13\, the fourteen Friday morning performances will feature many of the tellers from previous years\, along with some new faces and their stories. Each hour-long performance begins at 10:30 a.m. These tellers come to Guelph from across Southern Ontario\, From Oshawa to St Thomas\, from Elora to Hamilton. One teller comes annually from Wisconsin\, USA. There shall also be a Canada Day performance\, on Saturday\, July 1\, with James Gordon Brian Holstein and Larry Gibbs. The tellers and their stories\, along with the music of violinist Bridget Walsh\, would be a great way to kick off the Rotary celebrations in the park. It should be noted that on Canada Day and on the four Family Saturdays\, there is a possible appearance by Robert Munsch Then there will be four more Saturday family-themed sessions\, “Under the Magic Ash”. Each of these will feature a variety of different tellers\, musicians and puppeteers.\nWhile all 19 performances commence at 10:30 a.m.\, there shall be prelude entertainment from 10:00\na.m. for all of the events. Amongst those already committed to play is the beloved violinist Bridget\nWalsh\, an A Capella group\, a jazz trio\, The Celtic band Shepherd’s Knot\, and the Silver Strummers.\nAudience members are advised to arrive early\, to secure a good spot and enjoy the music. A folding\nlawn chair is a necessity. A mug will also be needed for a free Planet Bean coffee or an Iced Tea. DESCRIPTION:Community is central to Justin Favela’s art practice and the public is invited to join the visiting artist to participate in a collaborative workshop. \n\n\nBe a part of transforming the gallery this fall! Community is central to Justin Favela’s art practice and the public is invited to join the visiting artist to participate in a collaborative workshop and contribute to murals that will be part of Favela’s vibrant large-scale installation\, Entrelazados\, on view this fall in the vaulted two-storey space of the Art Gallery of Guelph. At the core of Favela’s work is an exploration of his own intersecting identities as a Guatemalan-Mexican-American artist\, adapting and repurposing traditional Mexican or Latin American craft practices\, particularly cartoneria or piñata making. Join us for an afternoon of artmaking and be part of the vivid designs that Favela is creating using everyday materials like paper and glue. All are welcome; no experience necessary. DESCRIPTION:September 16\, 2024 – Get ready for a paw-some day in Downtown Guelph! Following the success of last year’s event\, the 2nd annual Downtown Dog Promenade\, proudly presented by the Downtown Guelph Business Association and Speedy Auto Service Guelph\, will take place on Saturday\, September 21st from 12pm to 4pm. Dogs of all breeds\, sizes\, and their human families are invited to join in the fun. \nThe event is free to attend\, with some activities requiring a small fee. Donations will be collected on-site\, with all proceeds going to Autism Dog Services. \nA variety of activities and exhibits will be available\, including: \n– A costume contest for your stylish pups. \n– Expert advice from local dog groomers and veterinarians. \n– A selfie station complete with fun costumes. \n– Free treats for puppies throughout the day. \nParticipants are encouraged to pick up a “Pawsport” upon arrival at the red check-in tent located in St. George’s Square. DESCRIPTION:Skill Share Fair and Afterparty \nThe Skill Share Fair and afterparty will take place in Old Quebec Street Shoppes on Saturday\, September 28th in celebration of the grand reopening of the Guelph Tool Library in their new home. The daytime event (11 am to 4 pm) will feature a series of interactive booths where you can try out a series of tools and techniques\, like printmaking\, plantable seed paper\, and so much more. Event attendance is free\, but tickets are required to try out the different activity stations. The afterparty\, taking place from 5:30-8 will feature local eats and treats\, a silent disco\, and a behind the scenes look at the new space. Tickets are required for all afterparty attendees. \nSkill Share Fair Tickets: \nTo participate in the hands-on activities at the Skill Share Fair\, tickets are required. DESCRIPTION:Indigenous voices call upon all Canadians to do the work that is asked of us\, by educating ourselves and our peers as to the truth about Canada’s residential school legacy and its resulting harm. Thus\, the Reconciliation Walk is an educational opportunity to learn about this chapter in Canada. Presented as reading stations along a wooded trail this self-guided experience is both interactive and meaningful.  \nThe walk takes approximately 1 hour to complete and can be accessed anytime between advertised hours. This event is rain or shine.  \nTrue North Aid’s Annual Reconciliation Walk is also an opportunity to support Orange Shirt Day\, by encouraging participants to wear their orange shirts while they reflect upon Canada’s past and present relationship with Indigenous peoples. \nThis event is FREE and everyone is welcome.
