SUMMARY:Reel Stories: Documentary Filmmaking for Youth (Grades 9-12)
DESCRIPTION:Reel Stories\, Ed Video’s documentary filmmaking program for youth returns this September with the support and funding of the J.P. Bickell Foundation. Reel Stories is designed to empower the next generation of storytellers\, giving them the tools and confidence to share their voice with the world. A group of youth participants (Grades 9-12) will meet for 8 sessions on a biweekly basis to create short documentaries. Participants will undergo the filmmaking process\, building skills in scriptwriting\, conducting interviews\, smartphone and camera-based filmmaking\, lighting\, audio recording and editing\, while learning how professional-quality films can be created using accessible technology. \nSkills in communication\, critical thinking and collaboration will also be developed throughout the program. At the program’s end in January\, participants will have the opportunity to showcase their completed documentaries for family\, friends and local community members. Reel Stories is more than just a filmmaking course; it’s an experience that equips youth with skills that extend beyond the world of film. \nParents and guardians interested in enrolling their children in this free program are encouraged to email workshops@edvideo.org with any questions or accessibility concerns. Spaces are limited\, so early registration is recommended to secure a spot.

DESCRIPTION:Toronto-based folk duo Basset are full of timeless heart. With deeply human lyrics and harmonies reminiscent of the early folk revival\, CBC Q’s Tom Power says\, “I think you’re going to love this.” Their debut album In the Clay was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award. With a live show that is sincere and disarmingly funny\, they’ve performed at Mariposa\, Winnipeg\, and Celtic Connections Folk Festivals. In 2026\, they’ll tour Australia\, Canada\, and Europe\, promoting their upcoming album Human Nature. bassettheband.com \nJanice Jo Lee (she/they) is a contemporary folk-fusion musician\, composer\, sound designer\, spoken word poet\, actor-clown\, director\, facilitator and educator born and based in Toronto. Her artwork explores climate grief\, antiracism\, loneliness\, workers rights\, queer joy\, and her Korean heritage. She is a dynamic and engaging performer\, and performs with a guitar\, trumpet\, vocal looping and jjangu drum. As a professional educator\, she has facilitated arts and anti-oppression workshops for 15 years. Janice Jo Lee has toured across Canada with her music and poetry. DESCRIPTION:Learn about Guelph’s history while taking in its beautiful architecture and natural features through six different Historical Walking Tours. \nThis tour encircles the original Market Square area of almost twenty-four acres laid out by John Galt in 1827. Serving as the focal point for Guelph’s early social and business life\, the area also contains the sites of many of Guelph’s first buildings. \nDate: September 27\nTime: 10:00 AM \nPurchase tickets for Tour 1 here. \nStarting point: 25 Waterloo Ave\, corner of Dublin Street. (Please use street parking\, not 25 Waterloo private lot.) \nThank you to all of our tour volunteer tour guides for making these beloved tours possible! \nPlease note: Tours are approximately 90 minutes and all begin at 10am. Participants are required to register and pre-pay. Guides will not handle cash. Tours with less than two registrations by the Friday prior to the tour at 12pm will be cancelled.
