DESCRIPTION:Family Day Workshop \nWe all have a place of comfort\, whether real or imagined. Join us to creatively reflect upon this theme through writing\, drawing and finally creating a miniature world! We will transform ideas into a world created in a vessel using foraged\, found\, and upcycled materials. We will make landscapes\, structures\, figures\, and creatures with materials like bark\, twigs\, seeds\, dried flowers\, and more! \nA variety of foraged and found materials will be provided as well as basic vessels for the miniature worlds\, but you are welcome to bring anything you would like to incorporate such as interesting seeds\, twigs\, bark\, rocks\, shells as well as a vessel such as a teacup\, mug\, glass jar\, etc. \nAbout Nimra Bandukwala: Nimra (she/her) is a Pakistani visual artist and maker of crafts using natural and found materials. She was born and raised in Karachi\, and has lived in Italy\, England\, and Canada over the past decade. She facilitates community-engaged workshops with folks of all ages and abilities\, and believes that artmaking is a collaborative process that everyone should have access to. She co-leads Reth aur Reghistan\, a multidisciplinary arts project exploring folklore and artmaking using foraged and found materials. You can join her creative experiments on Instagram @nimrabandukwala.art and find her on nimrabandukwala.com. \nTo ensure willing participants have access to educational opportunities\, please email Ahmri at info@otherwisestudios.com if you face financial barriers and share why you are interested in joining the class. DESCRIPTION:Calling all families with young artists and the young at heart – spend Family Day afternoon exploring printmaking and collaborating on a community project! Join us at the gallery Monday\, February 20\, between 1 pm and 4 pm\, for a free guided printmaking workshop and community-engaged project. As a drop-in event\, participants – children and caregivers – will learn how to design\, carve and hand-print a single colour print using a variety of tools and techniques. All printmakers will create and take home their own printmaking block that can be used over and over again and create two printed banners – one of these will become part of a community banner quilt that will be assembled and displayed at the Art Gallery of Guelph. Come and collaborate with your friends\, family and neighbors in the Guelph community! \nThis program is designed for kids aged 4-14 with their caregiver(s)\, though all ages are welcome. DESCRIPTION:To commemorate Black Heritage Month\, Guelph Museums has partnered with Guelph Black Heritage Society for February’s Fourth Friday. We are pleased to host Shane Philips\, an internationally acclaimed musician with a whole lot of soul. Philips is described as a singer whose voice is beyond his years and yet his message is timeless. Shane is an environmental and social activist\, and his songs spread messages of change\, love\, and community. \nEvery Fourth Friday of the month enjoy free admission to the Civic Museum from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.\, and a free concert starting at 7 p.m. \nTickets will be available January 27\, 2022. Reserve yours on Eventbrite! \nThe concert will also be streamed on our Facebook Page\, and available for a limited time afterwards on our YouTube channel and Museum Everywhere portal.  \nDue to high demand for seating\, please arrive at the Museum and take your seat by 6:50 pm. Seats not claimed by this time may be re-assigned to rush line visitors.\n \nPlease let us know in advance if you can no longer attend so we can release the ticket to others wishing to attend. \nCash bar. \n\nAbout the Artist:\nPhilips’ career as an artist has spanned the last 30 years from his first cassette tape release in 1990 and then to six CD’s from 1996 to 2016. During this time Philips toured North America as a singer and performer playing original music while performing in a lead role as “Sammy Davis Jr.” in the musical “The Rat Pack” which toured Germany\, Austria and Dubai. Fast forward to 2019\, Philips later completed a “Harry Belafonte” musical tribute which toured Quebec.In 2008 Philips began to receive film and TV placement within the Lifetime Network and his singing eventually earned him a spot on the NBC show “The Voice” in 2014 and was eventually cast off because producers officially said he was “too soulful”. Shane deemed it a major compliment and used it as a guide in his path forward. He slowly understood that singing songs of hope and change were what his inner voice hungered for.With the completion of a coast-to-coast US tour in 2014 of which culminated at the San Francisco Folk Festival\, Philips used that momentum to propel his journey forward and was eventually given the opportunity in 2015 to sing with his musical inspiration Stevie Wonder as part of the cast ensemble for the concert finally at the Scotia Bank Centre in Toronto\, Canada. This once in a lifetime experience was followed up with a one on one meeting between Philips and Wonder where the main topic of discussion was the state of the world. A year later in 2016\, Philips would form Band of People\, a non-profit music collective that shared a vision for peace and harmony expressed through music. That summer Philips was asked to sing one of his original compositions at the official protest rally downtown Philadelphia during the Democratic Convention to protest the side lining of then Presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders. To a crowd in the thousands\, Philips\, as one youth put it\, inspired and gave hope to the idea that people standing together could make a difference.As a recording engineer\, at the age of 22 Shane was running a co-op for his local high school as well as Fanshawe College in London Ontario. Shane’s approach to music production was refined by his time signed to a Montreal based Mile End Records where he spent years learning audio techniques from veteran engineers at Studio MixArt. Shane believes in keeping things simple and using the best equipment available for any specific environment. As a performer himself\, Shane learned how to coach fellow artists that found themselves in front of a mic. This would later become an asset as he began to work in the field of location audio with CEO’s\, politicians\, NGO’s and a wide variety of other clients to record interviews\, marketing campaigns and documentaries such as the Rwandan Healing Project in 2019.Shane’s path as an artist traveling the world inspired him to use music for positive change devoting time and energy to activism promoting human rights\, veteran affairs\, social and environmental change. Early on in 2002 one of his songs was adopted by the York Regional School Board for an anti-drinking and driving campaign and then in 2011 Shane began his personal journey as a water activist walking not only once but twice from his hometown of Guelph Ontario to Queens Park in Toronto to highlight issues of equity when it came to local and global water rights. He eventually volunteered his time in the summer of 2021 “Ear to the Ground Water” campaign which connected communities all over Ontario through series of walks in solidarity for water protection and First Nations rights. SUMMARY:Art in a Just Recovery
DESCRIPTION:WHAT IS ART IN A JUST RECOVERY?\nArt in a Just Recovery (AIJR) is a local community arts project that explores community care in the context of our ongoing pandemic recovery in Guelph. We’ll explore these ideas together through art and story-telling. Through a series of online and in-person workshops facilitated by Art Not Shame and the Guelph Neighbourhood Support Coalition’s newly formed Creative Collective\, participants will create individual art pieces that eventually form a large-scale digital mural. We will also invite interested participants to contribute to building community-based knowledge about care. \nWHO IS INVOLVED?\nArt in a Just Recovery is a collaborative project between Art Not Shame\, the Guelph Neighbourhood Support Coalition\, University of Guelph researcher\, Amy Kipp\, social artist lead\, Melanie Schambach\, and several community Art Buddies. What started as an optimistic and defiant tweet against PD had\nbecome a mini-internet sensation. This gave Barbara an idea. Together\, with founding PD\nAvenger member\, Richelle Flanagan\, Dopamine dance against PD was born. \nTo raise awareness about Parkinson’s and World Parkinson’s Day you’re invited to participate\nonline. We’re asking everyone to boost their dopamine and dance against Parkinson’s for the\nweek leading into World Parkinson’s Day on April 11. Help raise awareness of the fastest\ngrowing neurological condition affecting 10 million people\, 40% of whom are women and 30%\nunder the age of 60. DESCRIPTION:Celebrate all of the amazing things happening at 10C and the Guelph Farmers Market! \n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us June 8 for a 10C Community Open House at both our 42 Carden Street and the Guelph Farmers’ Market locations from 4:00 to 8:00pm! Our Open House is a chance to meet and learn from the amazing people\, organizations and businesses that make 10C and the Guelph Farmers’ Market magic. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nAt the Open House\, visitors can expect to: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEnjoy guided tours of 10C and learn about the amazing programs happening here\nMeet and chat with businesses who are leading social and environmental change in our community\nLearn from vendors and sample yummy food and drink offerings\nBe inspired by two art installations on our First and Fourth Floors\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for an evening of learning\, connecting and inspiration! \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration is not required for this event. Walk-ins are welcome.

Through the power of film\, we will spark conversations about how we can support each other during these uncertain times. \nWe invite you to our screening of short film On the Fence and feature-length film Unarmed Verses\, followed by an informal discussion about important topics such as housing\, home-ownership and community. Our moderator Sapphire Woods will lead the discussion\, which will also feature a special guest from your very own community – Erin Caton\, City Councillor Ward 1. \nDon’t miss out on this opportunity to connect with your neighbours and learn from each other. SUMMARY:CAMBRIDGE CELEBRATION OF THE ARTS
DESCRIPTION:It features more than 30 professional artists who showcase their visual\, literary and performing arts talents by injecting colour\, music\, performance and life into the city. Part of the festival is an awards ceremony that includes a Juror’s Choice Award and the public will have a chance to vote for their favourite artist in the category of People’s Choice. New this year will be the Cambridge 50th Award for the artist that best reflects this milestone in their work. Come hungry! Food trucks and restaurants will be on-site. The event is also licensed.
