DESCRIPTION:When Barbara Salsberg Mathews tweeted a video of herself dancing on February 25\, 2023\,\nshe didn’t expect to receive such an amazing response. Within just a few short days\, her tweet\n“Parkinson’s Disease can’t stop me from dancing” had received over 15\,000 views. \nEven more amazingly\, many other people living with Parkinson’s began replying by posting\nvideos of themselves dancing. What started as an optimistic and defiant tweet against PD had\nbecome a mini-internet sensation. This gave Barbara an idea. Together\, with founding PD\nAvenger member\, Richelle Flanagan\, Dopamine dance against PD was born. \nTo raise awareness about Parkinson’s and World Parkinson’s Day you’re invited to participate\nonline. We’re asking everyone to boost their dopamine and dance against Parkinson’s for the\nweek leading into World Parkinson’s Day on April 11. Help raise awareness of the fastest\ngrowing neurological condition affecting 10 million people\, 40% of whom are women and 30%\nunder the age of 60. Help break the stigma of Parkinson’s and take a video of yourself busting\nout your greatest dance moves and post them on social media starting on April 3 until World\nParkinson’s day on April 11. \nDance is a powerful form of self-expression and has been linked to benefits for people living\nwith Parkinson’s disease. Part of the festival is an awards ceremony that includes a Juror’s Choice Award and the public will have a chance to vote for their favourite artist in the category of People’s Choice. New this year will be the Cambridge 50th Award for the artist that best reflects this milestone in their work. Come hungry! Food trucks and restaurants will be on-site. The event is also licensed.

The authors will be joined by many of Guelph’s micro-presses\, bookstores\, libraries\, cultural groups\, and literacy organizations\, all the people who help make up our great local book culture.\n\nThere will also be storytelling and free books for children\, a leave-a-book-take-a-book table\, a book composting demonstration\, food and refreshments for sale\, book prizes\, and other fun!\n\nThere is no cost for the event\, but donations will be accepted for Action Read\, Friends of Vocamus Writers Community’s charitable partner\, which provides literacy programs in the community.
