DESCRIPTION:The Guelph Book Bash Festival is an annual celebration of the books published by Guelph and area authors over the previous year. DESCRIPTION:WHAT IS COMMUNITY FABRIC?\nPresented by Art Not Shame\, the Community Fabric project is a free\, ten-week community-arts series in which participants work together to create a community quilt\, while building social connections and developing skills to support their mental health and wellbeing. Each week the quilt will grow as community members explore mark-making through textiles as local artist facilitators guide them through teachings around appliqué\, embroidery\, hand-sewing\, printmaking\, and quilting. In collaboration with the Guelph Neighbourhood Support Coalition and the Guelph Civic Museum\, participants will co-create a quilt that shares stories and experiences from neighbourhood groups across the City of Guelph. The quilt will be housed in Art Not Shame’s new community arts hub\, as a representation of the community members who will use the space and a physical symbol of inclusivity. The quilt will also be included in an exhibition at the Guelph Civic Museum in the Fall of 2024. \nNo experience necessary. This program is open to folks of all ages (children are welcome with their grown-up)! \nAll spaces are all ground floor and are physically accessible. DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, June 13 at 6:30 pm\, is the launch of the Art Gallery of Guelph’s summer season featuring three exhibitions: Yours in Native Spirit: Richard Bedwash\, Catherine Chan: Fractures and Fragments\, and What Remains. All three exhibitions address ideas and issues that are exceptionally timely – from the work of Richard Bedwash\, the Anishinaabe artist tied to murals that remain at risk within the aging structure of the abandoned Guelph Correctional Centre\, to Catherine Chan’s engagement with questions of the Anthropocene\, and the work in What Remains that draws attention to the humanitarian crisis playing out on the southern border of the United States. \nAccessible parking and a limited number of free parking spots are available in the lot beside and behind the gallery with an entrance off Gordon Street\, just north of College Avenue. DESCRIPTION:The Guelph Enabling Garden and the Guelph Guild of Storytellers is delighted to announce that Tea ‘n’ Tales is back to the Guelph Enabling Garden located within Riverside Park for the summer of 2024 for its 16th season\, and it’s bigger and better than ever! Beginning on June 14 and continuing every Friday until September 13\, the fourteen Friday morning performances will feature many of the tellers from previous years\, along with some new faces and their stories. Each hour-long performance begins at 10:30 a.m. These tellers come to Guelph from across Southern Ontario\, From Oshawa to St Thomas\, from Elora to Hamilton. One teller comes annually from Wisconsin\, USA. There shall also be a Canada Day performance\, on Saturday\, July 1\, with James Gordon Brian Holstein and Larry Gibbs. The tellers and their stories\, along with the music of violinist Bridget Walsh\, would be a great way to kick off the Rotary celebrations in the park. It should be noted that on Canada Day and on the four Family Saturdays\, there is a possible appearance by Robert Munsch Then there will be four more Saturday family-themed sessions\, “Under the Magic Ash”. Each of these will feature a variety of different tellers\, musicians and puppeteers.\nWhile all 19 performances commence at 10:30 a.m.\, there shall be prelude entertainment from 10:00\na.m. for all of the events. Amongst those already committed to play is the beloved violinist Bridget\nWalsh\, an A Capella group\, a jazz trio\, The Celtic band Shepherd’s Knot\, and the Silver Strummers.\nAudience members are advised to arrive early\, to secure a good spot and enjoy the music. A folding\nlawn chair is a necessity. A mug will also be needed for a free Planet Bean coffee or an Iced Tea. SUMMARY:Walking as Remapping: Night Walk in the Moth Garden
DESCRIPTION:Join the artists for a nighttime walk to the garden under the full moon where participants will spend time observing the vibrant world active during the nighttime as well as their own sensory responses to the night. Guided by the artists\, participants will explore how to shift their sensory perception\, and consider how other beings\, like moths\, sense the world. \nParticipants will meet in the parking lot and the walk to the garden is about 15 minutes along a gravel roadway with mowed grass paths which have some uneven surfaces and slight to moderate inclines. Because the garden and walk involve encounters with other beings in their own sensory worlds\, please avoid the use of insect repellants and other scented products. Bug suits will be available\, or you are welcome to bring your own. We also recommend wearing long sleeves. \nPlease check your email in the afternoon if the weather looks ominous as we will be in touch as soon as possible if we plan to reschedule. We are tentatively holding June 23 at 9:00 pm as a rain date. Otherwise\, we will be outside for the program and so encourage you to dress for the weather with comfortable footwear for walking. DESCRIPTION:PortPrep’s Youth Animation Summer Camp August 4 to 10 is for students aged 11-15\, and helps to build the preliminary skills necessary for studying animation later in their lives. It is 6 days long\, with 2 workshops per day\, some evening games and activities\, and overall is just a ton of fun culminating in a presentation of the story at the Open House Event at the end of the camp. SUMMARY:Animation Portfolio Summer Camp
DESCRIPTION:PortPrep’s Animation Portfolio Summer Camp August 11 to 18 is for students aged 15-20\, and provides a great simulation of what it would feel like to work at a big animation studio making a film. There is character creation\, background design\, storyboarding\, and even life drawing (a critical skill for success in animation). Students will be creating work that they can use in their portfolio to submit to colleges. It is 7 days long\, with 2 workshops per day\, with evening programming and games.  The camp can be attended as a day camp or as an overnight camp with accommodations and meals.

DESCRIPTION:Community is central to Justin Favela’s art practice and the public is invited to join the visiting artist to participate in a collaborative workshop. \n\n\nBe a part of transforming the gallery this fall! Community is central to Justin Favela’s art practice and the public is invited to join the visiting artist to participate in a collaborative workshop and contribute to murals that will be part of Favela’s vibrant large-scale installation\, Entrelazados\, on view this fall in the vaulted two-storey space of the Art Gallery of Guelph. At the core of Favela’s work is an exploration of his own intersecting identities as a Guatemalan-Mexican-American artist\, adapting and repurposing traditional Mexican or Latin American craft practices\, particularly cartoneria or piñata making. Join us for an afternoon of artmaking and be part of the vivid designs that Favela is creating using everyday materials like paper and glue. All are welcome; no experience necessary. Following the success of last year’s event\, the 2nd annual Downtown Dog Promenade\, proudly presented by the Downtown Guelph Business Association and Speedy Auto Service Guelph\, will take place on Saturday\, September 21st from 12pm to 4pm. Dogs of all breeds\, sizes\, and their human families are invited to join in the fun. \nThe event is free to attend\, with some activities requiring a small fee. Donations will be collected on-site\, with all proceeds going to Autism Dog Services. \nA variety of activities and exhibits will be available\, including: \n– A costume contest for your stylish pups. \n– Expert advice from local dog groomers and veterinarians. \n– A selfie station complete with fun costumes. \n– Free treats for puppies throughout the day. \nParticipants are encouraged to pick up a “Pawsport” upon arrival at the red check-in tent located in St. George’s Square. Collect stamps from participating downtown businesses for a chance to win exciting gift baskets. \nPresenting partner and Speedy Auto Service Guelph owner Sharon Marostega-Hammond said “Speedy is thrilled to sponsor this dog-friendly community event!  It not only allows us to give back and support a cause as important as Autism Dog Services\, but also strengthens our connection with local families and pet owners.
