DESCRIPTION:Indigenous voices call upon all Canadians to do the work that is asked of us\, by educating ourselves and our peers as to the truth about Canada’s residential school legacy and its resulting harm. Thus\, the Reconciliation Walk is an educational opportunity to learn about this chapter in Canada. Presented as reading stations along a wooded trail this self-guided experience is both interactive and meaningful.  \nThe walk takes approximately 1 hour to complete and can be accessed anytime between advertised hours. This event is rain or shine.  \nTrue North Aid’s Annual Reconciliation Walk is also an opportunity to support Orange Shirt Day\, by encouraging participants to wear their orange shirts while they reflect upon Canada’s past and present relationship with Indigenous peoples. \nThis event is FREE and everyone is welcome. DESCRIPTION:Skill Share Fair and Afterparty \nThe Skill Share Fair and afterparty will take place in Old Quebec Street Shoppes on Saturday\, September 28th in celebration of the grand reopening of the Guelph Tool Library in their new home. The daytime event (11 am to 4 pm) will feature a series of interactive booths where you can try out a series of tools and techniques\, like printmaking\, plantable seed paper\, and so much more. At the core of Favela’s work is an exploration of his own intersecting identities as a Guatemalan-Mexican-American artist\, adapting and repurposing traditional Mexican or Latin American craft practices\, particularly cartoneria or piñata making. Join us for an afternoon of artmaking and be part of the vivid designs that Favela is creating using everyday materials like paper and glue. All are welcome; no experience necessary. SUMMARY:Walking as Remapping: Night Walk in the Moth Garden
DESCRIPTION:Join the artists for a nighttime walk to the garden under the full moon where participants will spend time observing the vibrant world active during the nighttime as well as their own sensory responses to the night. Guided by the artists\, participants will explore how to shift their sensory perception\, and consider how other beings\, like moths\, sense the world. \nParticipants will meet in the parking lot and the walk to the garden is about 15 minutes along a gravel roadway with mowed grass paths which have some uneven surfaces and slight to moderate inclines. Because the garden and walk involve encounters with other beings in their own sensory worlds\, please avoid the use of insect repellants and other scented products. Bug suits will be available\, or you are welcome to bring your own. We also recommend wearing long sleeves. \nPlease check your email in the afternoon if the weather looks ominous as we will be in touch as soon as possible if we plan to reschedule. We are tentatively holding June 23 at 9:00 pm as a rain date. Otherwise\, we will be outside for the program and so encourage you to dress for the weather with comfortable footwear for walking. The juried event has grown since 2003 to become Guelph’s largest outdoor exhibition and sale. Art on the Street spotlights talent within the regional arts community and offers a fresh-air art experience for Guelph’s residents and visitors. DESCRIPTION:The Guelph Enabling Garden and the Guelph Guild of Storytellers is delighted to announce that Tea ‘n’ Tales is back to the Guelph Enabling Garden located within Riverside Park for the summer of 2024 for its 16th season\, and it’s bigger and better than ever! Beginning on June 14 and continuing every Friday until September 13\, the fourteen Friday morning performances will feature many of the tellers from previous years\, along with some new faces and their stories. Each hour-long performance begins at 10:30 a.m. These tellers come to Guelph from across Southern Ontario\, From Oshawa to St Thomas\, from Elora to Hamilton. One teller comes annually from Wisconsin\, USA. There shall also be a Canada Day performance\, on Saturday\, July 1\, with James Gordon Brian Holstein and Larry Gibbs. The tellers and their stories\, along with the music of violinist Bridget Walsh\, would be a great way to kick off the Rotary celebrations in the park. It should be noted that on Canada Day and on the four Family Saturdays\, there is a possible appearance by Robert Munsch Then there will be four more Saturday family-themed sessions\, “Under the Magic Ash”. Each of these will feature a variety of different tellers\, musicians and puppeteers.\nWhile all 19 performances commence at 10:30 a.m.\, there shall be prelude entertainment from 10:00\na.m. for all of the events. Amongst those already committed to play is the beloved violinist Bridget\nWalsh\, an A Capella group\, a jazz trio\, The Celtic band Shepherd’s Knot\, and the Silver Strummers.\nAudience members are advised to arrive early\, to secure a good spot and enjoy the music. A folding\nlawn chair is a necessity. A mug will also be needed for a free Planet Bean coffee or an Iced Tea. Additional parking is available in the University of Guelph campus parking lot P23 with access from College Avenue and MacDonald Street.

DESCRIPTION:WHAT IS COMMUNITY FABRIC?\nPresented by Art Not Shame\, the Community Fabric project is a free\, ten-week community-arts series in which participants work together to create a community quilt\, while building social connections and developing skills to support their mental health and wellbeing. Each week the quilt will grow as community members explore mark-making through textiles as local artist facilitators guide them through teachings around appliqué\, embroidery\, hand-sewing\, printmaking\, and quilting. In collaboration with the Guelph Neighbourhood Support Coalition and the Guelph Civic Museum\, participants will co-create a quilt that shares stories and experiences from neighbourhood groups across the City of Guelph. The quilt will be housed in Art Not Shame’s new community arts hub\, as a representation of the community members who will use the space and a physical symbol of inclusivity. The quilt will also be included in an exhibition at the Guelph Civic Museum in the Fall of 2024. \nNo experience necessary. This program is open to folks of all ages (children are welcome with their grown-up)! \nAll spaces are all ground floor and are physically accessible. All locations have accessible washroom facilities. Masks and hand sanitizer will be provided and are encouraged! \nYou can register for as many sessions as you’d like. SUMMARY:Book Bash Festival 2023
DESCRIPTION:The Guelph Book Bash Festival is an annual celebration of the books published by Guelph and area authors over the previous year. The event is presented by Vocamus Writers Community.\n\nThis year\, it will be held on Sunday November 5\, 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM\, at the Guelph Farmers’ Market.\n\nOver thirty authors will be in attendance to sell their books\, chat with attendees\, and sign copies. The authors will be joined by many of Guelph’s micro-presses\, bookstores\, libraries\, cultural groups\, and literacy organizations\, all the people who help make up our great local book culture.\n\nThere will also be storytelling and free books for children\, a leave-a-book-take-a-book table\, a book composting demonstration\, food and refreshments for sale\, book prizes\, and other fun!\n\nThere is no cost for the event\, but donations will be accepted for Action Read\, Friends of Vocamus Writers Community’s charitable partner\, which provides literacy programs in the community.
