SUMMARY:Culture Days: Leave No Trace - Tait Wilman
DESCRIPTION:Nature and a sense of place are catalysts for Tait Wilman’s work\, her artistic practice explores discursive trajectories between sense of self and place\, through installation\, sculpture\, and performance. ‘Leave No Trace’ is a sculpture located at Royal Recreation trail near Guelph Lake. This sculpture will illustrate some of the local ecology you can find on this trail\, here you will also find a small take away. This zine or take away will not only guide you through on your trail excursion but will provide tidbits about the local ecosystem\, and a creative activity. This activation brings a new perspective to the local nature\, diversity and creativity in the area. The artist aims to encourage exploring local nature to learn and create. \nThe artist wants to acknowledge that we live\, learn\, work\, play\, explore and this sculpture rests on the land within the Between the Lakes Purchase (Treaty 3)\, the treaty lands and territory of the Mississauga’s of the Credit. She recognizes that the Anishinnabe\, and Hodinöhsö:ni’ peoples have long-standing and ongoing relationship with the land and each other. The Attawandaron people are part of the archaeological record. \nCulture Days happens annually from September 23 to October 16. \nWhere art meets heritage meets a passion for the natural environment\, That’s So Guelph! Our creative community embodies values that define Guelph – curiosity\, compassion\, innovation\, collaboration\, diversity\, environmentalism\, and activism. SUMMARY:Culture Days: Transartivist – Rainbow Visions Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The Rainbow Visions workshop is open to racialized and disabled individuals of the Rainbow spectrum and 2S and/or LGBTQQIA+ community members. \nStories are an inherent part of our life and participants will be invited to share their stories and visions of what a Queer-friendly future looks like. \nArtivist-at-Large Maude Stephany\, and their partner in-crime\, Katrina Stephany\, will lead up to 20 participants in improv\, storytelling and crafting practices which culminate in a community art piece that will be exhibited at the Guelph Civic Museum. Dress in comfortable\, ‘messy play’ clothes. \nThis event is free\, and advanced-registration is required to attend. SUMMARY:Introduction to Encaustic Art
DESCRIPTION:Get a thorough introduction to the rich medium of encaustic. \nThis workshop is suitable for people with no experience and for those that want to get back into encaustic painting after being away for a bit. \nEncaustic painting is the process of using melted and pigmented beeswax mixed with damar resin to create exciting\, luminous paintings. \nThis 3.5 hr class (half hour break for lunch) will take you through \n• mixing your own encaustic medium \n• how to add pigment \n• working safely with your materials \n• using tools such as griddles\, heat guns\, propane torches \n• adding other media like paper and creating texture \n• playing on practice boards; you will get to take these home with you \nAll equipment\, encaustic medium\, papers\, wood panel boards will be provided. \nJust bring yourself and your lunch! \nSmall class size ensures you get some one on one time. Max 8 participants.

This is a monthly gathering of video and cinema makers who are dedicated to the craft of moving imagery\, with a particular focus on lighting design. At each session\, participants will work together to recreate an image from an existing film. While no formal instruction is provided\, each session will be a chance to meet new collaborators\, try new techniques\, push one another to new levels\, and keep skills fresh. DESCRIPTION:Floralscapes Workshop with Eileen MacArthur\nTuesday\, October 25 | 12:30 — 1:30 pm\nFree | In Person | To register\, click here \nJoin us for a hands-on workshop! You are invited to this special one-hour program with artist Eileen MacArthur\, focusing on artmaking as both an individual and collective pursuit. Inspired by MacArthur’s art practice\, participants will explore methods of representation\, subjects\, and materials to create floral images that will then be combined into a larger image of a garden. Participants will be encouraged to consider how the images complement and contradict one another\, and how each image contributes to the overall composition. This workshop is suited to beginners and experienced artists alike. All materials will be provided\, and everyone is welcome. Presented by the AGG Volunteer Association\, this workshop is free. Registration is required; sign up today at the link in our bio! \nEileen MacArthur completed an MFA in painting at the University of Guelph in 2005 and a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 2003. She has exhibited her work in Canada\, the United States and China. In 2009\, she received special mention as a finalist in the Kingston Prize National Portrait competition\, and was named as a finalist in the 2011 competition. Her work was included in the 2009 Biennial at the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery\, and in 2010 at the XX/5 Invitational Biennial at Fisch Haus in Wichita\, Kansas. Since 2012\, she has exhibited frequently at the Manifest Gallery and Creative Research Center in Cincinnati and her work was included in International Painting Annual 4 (INPA 4) and International Painting Annual 6 (INPA 6).
