DESCRIPTION:The Photographic Art Form\, Online class\, live via Zoom\nSaturday\, January 6\, 2024. 1:00 to 3:30 pm\n1 to 3:30 pm EDT.  Ages 16+\nRating:  Beginner to advanced.\nInstructor:  Sylvia Galbraith \nPhotography has a long history as an art form\, but is often misunderstood when considering its place in the greater world of art.  How does it fit in when considered with painting or sculpture or other media?  How do we know when a photograph is simply a snapshot\, or something more compelling? \nIn this interactive course\, we’ll look at the evolution of photography through different genres\, and learn how to evaluate our own images in terms of artistic merit rather than as a purely technical endeavour.  Other topics will include photography’s place in the art world\, how to develop a connected series of images\, and how to identify trends or styles that influence how we both perceive and create our work.  Students will be able to ask questions throughout the program\, and are encouraged to share one or two of their own photographs for discussion.  Access to the class recording will be available for one month afterwards. \nThis course is designed for those who want to take their photography to a higher level by considering dynamic content rather than technical skills\, and is suitable for all levels. \nFee: $95.00 + HST \n Register Online or call 519-787-7040 to register by phone. \n

DESCRIPTION:Thursday January 18th\, January 25th & February 1st | 7-9pm \nFacilitated by Hope Thompson \nWriting for film requires both a good story and a solid understanding of the craft of screenwriting. During this 3-part introductory online workshop series\, we will explore the basic tools required to unlock your short- or feature-length screenplay ideas. Topics covered include loglines\, premise\, theme\, character\, structure\, dialogue and symbol. Please bring your screenplay ideas to the first class. No experience necessary! \nHope Thompson writes for stage\, film and television and her work explores the queer experience through history and genre. She has had plays produced in Toronto\, Vancouver and Los Angeles and her award-winning short films have screened internationally. She wrote on two seasons of CBC’s Baroness Von Sketch Show and is currently co-writing a series with a broadcaster attached.
