DESCRIPTION:Join us for a dynamic three days of musical inspiration\, learning\, creativity\, and community!\nYour hosts & facilitators KATHERINE WHEATLEY & JANE LEWIS are thrilled to welcome talented musicians CYNTHIA KINNUNEN and STACEY CAN-TAMAKLOE as guest instructors.\nOur spring weekend will focus on group singing\, playing\, drumming\, and dance—nurturing community and connections through music. Ukulele is the focus of one of our instructors. Of course there will always be space and activities for our songwriters! (However\, if you are specifically looking for songwriting instruction\, we recommend our September weekend—Sept 12-14\, 2025.)\nAll our weekends aim to foster musical joy\, discovery\, connections\, delicious food\, and access to nature on the beautiful grounds of Ignatius Retreat Centre.\nYou do NOT need to know how to play an instrument or read music! All you need is a love of music\, a desire to connect with other music makers\, and a willingness to try something new.\nAlong with workshops on singing\, drumming\, ukulele and dance\, we’ll have small impromptu bands\, a pop-up choir\, jamming\, an open mic\, song circles and more! SUMMARY:Fabric Collage with Alisa
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday May 20th\, 6:00pm -8:00pm\n\nCalling all fabric scraps!!\n\nThis workshop is all about slowing down and doing some hand stitching by using scraps of fabric and trim as your inspiration. \nWe will work on a fabric collage either on a piece of fabric that can be framed\, hung or used as a patch\, or directly onto your favourite garment (think jean jacket jazz-up). \nThe best thing about this is it uses up all the little scraps that crafters are often left with. We will go over some different sewing techniques and some embroidery stitches too. You can use this time to play\, tell a story with your work or just relax into some hand stitching. \nAll materials will be included!

DESCRIPTION:Join us on Thursday\, May 22 at 6:30 pm to celebrate the launch of the Art Gallery of Guelph’s summer season with the opening of two new exhibitions: 155\,578 and Fuzzy Thinking. \n155\,578 features the work of over 50 artists with connections to Guelph\, selected through an open call. The exhibition also includes a large-scale participatory installation that invites visitors to contribute\, creating an evolving work shaped by community input. \nFuzzy Thinking brings together contemporary textile-based works that critically explore history and memory through material\, process\, and form. Embracing the tactile and the conceptual\, the exhibition offers softer\, more intuitive pathways to understanding the past and imagining the future. \nEnjoy an evening of art\, conversation\, and community as we launch a season shaped by collaboration\, reflection\, and creative engagement. Admission is free and all are welcome.

Artists are encouraged to bring an in-progress or complete artwork to share with the group. \nFacilitated by local artist Paige Bromby\, these monthly group critiques provide valuable feedback on your artwork\, a friendly safe environment to share ideas and an opportunity to connect with local artists in your community! \nNever participated in a critique before? No problem! Working primarily in painting and drawing\, Bromby explores landscape painting in the age of digital media Bromby creates paintings that explore the recording\, translation and filtering of the landscape through both artist and technology. Working from her own photographs Bromby breaks down her images through digital manipulations and layered compositions to create landscape painting that are a tangle of organic shapes and perspectives. \n@paige_bromby \nAbout Necessary Arts Collective\nNecessary Arts Collective is an all-in-one type of space. The studio is known to be an arts hub located in Downtown Guelph; home to 12 – 15 local artists.
