SUMMARY:Walking as Remapping: Night Walk in the Moth Garden
DESCRIPTION:Join the artists for a nighttime walk to the garden under the full moon where participants will spend time observing the vibrant world active during the nighttime as well as their own sensory responses to the night. Guided by the artists\, participants will explore how to shift their sensory perception\, and consider how other beings\, like moths\, sense the world. \nParticipants will meet in the parking lot and the walk to the garden is about 15 minutes along a gravel roadway with mowed grass paths which have some uneven surfaces and slight to moderate inclines. Because the garden and walk involve encounters with other beings in their own sensory worlds\, please avoid the use of insect repellants and other scented products. Bug suits will be available\, or you are welcome to bring your own. We also recommend wearing long sleeves. \nPlease check your email in the afternoon if the weather looks ominous as we will be in touch as soon as possible if we plan to reschedule. We are tentatively holding June 23 at 9:00 pm as a rain date. Otherwise\, we will be outside for the program and so encourage you to dress for the weather with comfortable footwear for walking. SUMMARY:Big Ideas Lecture and Exhibition Launch: What Remains
DESCRIPTION:Launching the ArtsEverywhere festival organized and presented by Musagetes\, join the artists of the El Paso-based What Remains Collective (Dr. Adriana Alvarez\, Iris Morales\, Mabel Weber\, and Monica Lozano) for a guided conversation about documenting the stories of immigrant families as well as the belongings abandoned by individuals over the course of attempts to cross the political border into the United States. \nThe conversation will be followed by an opening reception for the collective’s exhibition What Remains at the Art Gallery of Guelph\, that brings together photography\, video\, and La Trenza – an evolving installation that braids together the belongings and stories of humans in transit\, immigrants\, asylum seekers\, displaced families\, men\, women\, and children who have experienced the journey of crossing a border\, from the heavily militarized to the nearly invisible. SUMMARY:Hold the Phone! Video Storytelling Camp
DESCRIPTION:This March Break\, Ed Video is offering a fun and engaging video production camp where campers can create and tell stories for digital media. Digital storytelling is a transferable skill that kids can use for the rest of their lives. Digital storytelling provides: \n\nopportunities for self-expression and developing confidence\nproblem solving skills\neffective presentation and marketing skills\ncritical thinking development\ncommunication skills\nopportunities for fun\, creativity and imagination!\n\nInstructed by Christina Cameletti and Jaden Howson\, campers will learn storyboarding\, camera operation\, sound recording\, lighting\, green screen and video editing. Using these skills\, campers will work together to shoot their own short works to be screened for parents and guardians on the final day of camp. To encourage campers to continue their digital storytelling journey\, they will be provided with their very own microphone kits to keep! \nCamp will run from 11am-5pm\, Monday\, March 11th to Friday\, March 15th at Ed Video Media Arts Centre (404 York Road\, Guelph ON). This camp is designed for youth aged 10-14 years of age. The cost of the camp is $300. Siblings can register at a discounted rate of $550 for both campers. SUMMARY:Community Fabric
DESCRIPTION:WHAT IS COMMUNITY FABRIC?\nPresented by Art Not Shame\, the Community Fabric project is a free\, ten-week community-arts series in which participants work together to create a community quilt\, while building social connections and developing skills to support their mental health and wellbeing. Each week the quilt will grow as community members explore mark-making through textiles as local artist facilitators guide them through teachings around appliqué\, embroidery\, hand-sewing\, printmaking\, and quilting. In collaboration with the Guelph Neighbourhood Support Coalition and the Guelph Civic Museum\, participants will co-create a quilt that shares stories and experiences from neighbourhood groups across the City of Guelph. The quilt will be housed in Art Not Shame’s new community arts hub\, as a representation of the community members who will use the space and a physical symbol of inclusivity. The quilt will also be included in an exhibition at the Guelph Civic Museum in the Fall of 2024. \nNo experience necessary. This program is open to folks of all ages (children are welcome with their grown-up)! \nAll spaces are all ground floor and are physically accessible. All locations have accessible washroom facilities. Masks and hand sanitizer will be provided and are encouraged! \nYou can register for as many sessions as you’d like. Join Snack Witch Joni Cheung in this virtual workshop edition as she prepares ingredients and teaches participants how to make Montréal’s Peanut Butter Dumplings while leading open discussions on food\, identity and home. This workshop is offered in conjunction with Ed Video’s upcoming symposium: Pork & Screens. \n???? Snack Witch ???? is a grateful\, uninvited guest born—and knows she wants to die—on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm\, Skwxwú7mesh\, Stó:lō\, and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh peoples. They are a Certified Sculpture Witch with an MFA from Concordia University (2023). As a wicked #magicalgirl ✨ who eats art and makes snacks\, she has exhibited across Turtle Island. Currently\, they are based on the stolen lands of the Kanien’kehá:ka peoples. They are a recipient of numerous awards\, including the Research and Creation Grant: Canada Council for the Arts.
