SUMMARY:Audio Feedback as a Creative Tool
DESCRIPTION:Audio feedback can be an unbounded fury that screeches\, thunders\, and pierces the air\, but within its chaos lives vast potential for dynamic sonic behaviours and colour. In this workshop\, participants will learn the fundamentals of working with feedback in an eardrum-friendly way while maintaining its liveliness. Topics will include tools and techniques for safely and creatively interacting with audio feedback\, notable feedback artists\, works\, and instruments\, and non-audio uses of feedback. Participants will have opportunities for hands-on experience with feedback using microphones\, speakers\, contact mics and exciters\, feedback instruments\, and various processing tools. Working with feedback suggests an entangled understanding of sound that may be of particular interest to artists working in sound art\, media art\, and experimental music. \nFacilitated by Dave Riedstra \nExperience Level: Beginner \nPlease email workshops@edvideo.org with any questions and/or accessibility concerns.

SUMMARY:Reel Stories: Documentary Filmmaking for Youth (Grades 9-12)
DESCRIPTION:Reel Stories\, Ed Video’s documentary filmmaking program for youth returns this September with the support and funding of the J.P. Bickell Foundation. Reel Stories is designed to empower the next generation of storytellers\, giving them the tools and confidence to share their voice with the world. A group of youth participants (Grades 9-12) will meet for 8 sessions on a biweekly basis to create short documentaries. Participants will undergo the filmmaking process\, building skills in scriptwriting\, conducting interviews\, smartphone and camera-based filmmaking\, lighting\, audio recording and editing\, while learning how professional-quality films can be created using accessible technology. \nSkills in communication\, critical thinking and collaboration will also be developed throughout the program. At the program’s end in January\, participants will have the opportunity to showcase their completed documentaries for family\, friends and local community members. Reel Stories is more than just a filmmaking course; it’s an experience that equips youth with skills that extend beyond the world of film. \nParents and guardians interested in enrolling their children in this free program are encouraged to email workshops@edvideo.org with any questions or accessibility concerns. DESCRIPTION:A free monthly gathering of video and cinema makers who are dedicated to the craft of moving imagery\, with a particular focus on lighting design. \nExperience Level: All Levels \nt’s time for the next round of the Image Makers! As suggested by one of our attendees\, we will try to light a simple music video with a single artist and a piano. Come with ideas of some shots you’d like to put in the video (colours\, camera placements\, action shots). If anyone has some piano skills\, please email workshops@edvideo.org\, as we may use you as our subject for the night if you are interested. SUMMARY:Collective Stitching Session - “Call This What It Is”
DESCRIPTION:“Call This What It Is” is a permanent work in progress depicting the names of women and girls who have been the victims of femicide in Canada since 2020.  I am currently working the panels for 2021.\n\nThe Collaborative Stitching Session presents an opportunity for community members to participate in the stitching of the names for the 2021 panels.  It is an opportunity to sit in a safe space to reflect upon and possibly discuss the impact of violence against women and girls on the community at large as well as personally\, if you feel so inclined.  This is not a workshop or group counselling session.  The discussion and material may be triggering so it is important to check in with yourself and do only what you feel you’re able to. \n\n\nThe names stitched by participants during this session will be incorporated onto a panel as part of “Call This What It Is”.\n\n\nLed by artist Katie Tonetti\n\nProceeds will be donated to Women in Crisis.\n\nDonate Directly Here
