DESCRIPTION:Tuesday May 20th\, 6:00pm -8:00pm\n\nCalling all fabric scraps!!\n\nThis workshop is all about slowing down and doing some hand stitching by using scraps of fabric and trim as your inspiration. \nWe will work on a fabric collage either on a piece of fabric that can be framed\, hung or used as a patch\, or directly onto your favourite garment (think jean jacket jazz-up). \nThe best thing about this is it uses up all the little scraps that crafters are often left with. We will go over some different sewing techniques and some embroidery stitches too. You can use this time to play\, tell a story with your work or just relax into some hand stitching. \nAll materials will be included!

On Saturday\, April 19\, hop on over between 1 and 3 pm for Bunny Bingo—a lively and interactive scavenger hunt designed to delight young explorers and their families. \nArmed with a special Bunny Bingo card\, children will explore the park\, discovering sculptures\, solving clues\, and checking off squares as they go. Along the way\, they’ll collect letters to unscramble a secret springtime message—and those who crack the code can trade it in for a sweet prize! Keep your eyes peeled for the Golden Egg hidden somewhere in the park—finding it comes with another reward. \nThis drop-in event is free of charge and is especially geared toward children aged 3 to 10\, but everyone is welcome to join in the fun. SUMMARY:Intuitive Weaving
DESCRIPTION:During the darker winter days\, it’s nice to have a meditative art practice to turn to to help you relax and practice mindfulness. Weaving can have a tangible outcome (like a wall hanging or placemat)\, or be purely for relaxation and play – without the pressure of outcomes. Either way\, it becomes a transcript of your mood and imagination. \nIn this 2 hour class\, we will learn the basics of weaving with little to no financial investment. Using a cardboard loom that we make ourselves and the provided materials\, we will go over basic weaving techniques. \nWe will let the materials guide us and see where they take us. Our intuition will lead us while we slow down our thoughts and enjoy the creative process. No prior weaving experience necessary!

DESCRIPTION:In partnership with Ed Video\, the Art Gallery of Guelph invites you to an engaging evening featuring a screening of Susan Mogul’s 1997 film\, I Stare at You and Dream\, currently showcased alongside a collection of over 80 quillboxes in the exhibition Do You Remember Love. The film highlights the intersecting lives of four individuals\, following the intertwining familial and romantic relationships that explore how personal history shapes the present\, inviting us to consider questions of identity\, family dynamics\, and the search for a sense of home. \nEvent Highlights \nCandid Corner Pop-Up: At 6:30 pm\, participate in Ed Video’s interactive video recording station where you can share your thoughts and reflections on relationships\, relationality\, and family\, themes inspired by the film. \nFilm Screening: Stay at 7:30 pm to watch Mogul’s intimate exploration of the lives of four individuals over six months. \nBefore the screening\, program facilitators will prompt participants with thought-provoking questions about relationships\, interpersonal connections\, and family ties. Step up to the mic in the Candid Corner booth and contribute your voice to a live\, collaborative video project. Your reflections will be edited in real-time into a short film\, which will be presented at the end of the evening as a collective community response to I Stare at You and Dream. \nParticipation in the Candid Corner program is optional\, and all are welcome. \nPlease note: \n\nThis event is recommended for adults. Participants under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.\nSusan Mogul’s film contains mature themes and conversations.\nRegistration is appreciated but not required. Seating and space are limited\, so early arrival is encouraged.\n\n  \nFilmed in Mogul’s Highland Park neighborhood in Los Angeles\, a predominantly working-class Latino area\, I Stare at You and Dream follows the intersecting lives of four individuals: Mogul herself; her friend\, Rosie Sanchez; Rosie’s teenage daughter\, Alejandra (Alex) Sanchez; and Ray Aguilar\, Mogul’s on-and-off boyfriend.   \nSusan Mogul has been involved with video since the early 1970s\, creating a foundational body of humorous and staunchly feminist performance videos before expanding into experimental narratives\, including feature-length work. Her numerous accolades include a Guggenheim Fellowship\, a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship\, and an ITVS commission. Her work has been showcased internationally\, with a survey of her videos held at the Austrian Film Museum in Vienna in 2024\, and her first solo museum exhibition at the Zacheta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw in 2022. Other notable exhibitions include California Video at the Getty Museum\, Los Angeles: Birth of an Art Capital at the Centre Pompidou in Paris\, and Where Art Might Happen: The Early Years of CalArts at the Kunsthaus Graz. \nMogul’s work has also been discussed in X-TRA (2020)\, where “A Feminist’s Survival Index” reviews her current work within the context of feminist art history. Her career and contributions are further explored in Women of Vision: Histories in Feminist Film and Video\, where a chapter is devoted to her impactful legacy.

DESCRIPTION:Music In The Air – Improv SingingWith Jane Lewis\n“We have a duty towards music\, namely\, to invent it.” — Igor Stravinsky\nWhere does music come from (if we’re not reading a score or singing a song we already know)? Take a deep dive into improvisational singing\, and experience the thrill of creating spontaneous music. We’ll explore different ways to create vocal music individually and as a group\, based mainly on the Vocal River exercises created by Rhiannon.\nWe’ll work on inventing melody as well as adding harmony and syncopated parts. It will involve musical creativity\, deep listening\, collaboration\, blending voices\, stretching our comfort zones\, and supporting one another.\nThe main requirement is that you can match pitch at least relatively well\, and that you are fairly comfortable sharing your voice in a group (since there will be times when your voice will be heard alone). If this is pushing your comfort zone\, but you want to work on it\, that’s great too. DESCRIPTION:The holiday season is officially here\, and the much-anticipated 2024 Guelph Community Santa Parade and Santa Run are back\, bringing festive cheer and community spirit to the heart of Downtown Guelph on Saturday\, December 7\, 2024. These annual traditions\, beloved by families and visitors of all ages\, promise to be bigger and brighter than ever before\, featuring festive floats\, local performers\, and of course\, a special appearance by Santa Claus! \nThe Santa Run is a 3km fun run that takes place along the route ahead of the parade at 5pm. Watch the grand spectacle of hundreds of runners dressed in red and white Santa suits with all proceeds from this race will go towards supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guelph\, and registration remains open until race day. SUMMARY:Sound Design in Ableton Live
DESCRIPTION:This workshop teaches participants essential tools and creative techniques for sound design using Ableton. \nInstructed by Stephen Surlin\, this workshop reviews tools for sound design that can be used in film\, theatre\, games\, and sound effects\, using experimental features of Ableton. This includes the use of effects and instruments as well as the use of free plug-ins to create sound that can be modified in Ableton. These plugins use granular\, spectral and modular synthesis. Some experience with Ableton Live is recommended. \nParticipants will need a laptop with Ableton Live. Ed Video has a limited amount of laptops with Ableton Live Intro available for members to use. Non-members may rent a laptop for an additional $10 +HST. \n  \nPlease email workshops@edvideo.org for any questions or accessibility concerns. \n  \n*Stephen Surlin is an interdisciplinary artist\, designer\, and educator. Surlin’s practice includes audio\, visual\, and technology-based theatre production work with Canadian Stage\, Outside the March Theatre Company\, Obsidian Theatre Company\, Buddies in Bad Times Theatre\, and youth education programs with Soulpepper and Toronto Metropolitan University. Surlin’s art and design work often incorporates hardware\, software and wearable sensors that wirelessly connect participants to interactive audio-visual experiences. Examples of this work includes immersive sound design for TOPDOG/UNDERDOG (Canadian Stage)\, the wireless haptic feedback system in No Save Points (Outside the March Theatre Company)\, interactive audio-visual installations at Nuit Blanche (Toronto)\, and outdoor musical theatre at the SummerWorks Festival (Toronto)*.
