Tea ‘n’ Tales is a 14-week storytelling festival\, hosted by the Guelph Guild of Storytellers and the Guelph Enabling Garden. The audience is entertained with an hour of adult -oriented tales from tellers from across Ontario and from the US. Originally focusing on seniors\, the events are open to all\, although young children would find the stories complex. In advance of the tellers\, musicians\, choral groups and singers entertain the assembly from 10:00 until 10:30. While unpredictable\, Robert Munsch often attends and adds an impromptuy addition to our programme.\nFree coffee and treats are provided (you are asked to bring your own mug and lawn chair).\nWhile the event is free\, donations to further the projects of the two organizations are always appreciated.

We want to celebrate with you! \nWhen: Saturday\, November 22\, 2025\, 7pm (programming to begin at 7:30pm) \nWhere: GAC’s new home in Old Quebec Street Shoppes. \nWhy should you come: GAC wouldn’t exist without an arts community to serve\, so we’d like to celebrate with the people who have inspired us for 50 years. There’s also a chance that GAC has supported you in your Guelph arts life\, whether that’s as an organization that got its start with support from GAC many years ago\, or as an individual who has shown in our gallery space\, received an award\, participated in our mentorship program or Art on the Street\, or any other things over the past 50 years. \nWe’re also unveiling the new “Sally Wismer Gallery” that night\, named after GAC’s longtime Executive Director\, volunteer and friend\, so maybe you’d like to come and celebrate that too. \nBasically\, if you love the arts\, you love our community\, and you love a chance to gather with friends in the sector\, this is the place for you. \nWe’re calling the event “folk formal”\, meaning all are welcome to come as formally (or informally) dressed as they’d like\, and the night’s program will feature dance\, spoken word/performance arts\, and musical performances\, video screenings\, as well as a chance for attendees to participate in a community craft project (beading) and a community literature project\, where they will be encouraged to write down their favourite Guelph arts memories from the past 50 years with the intention of publishing a keepsake book. \nAttendees may enjoy beverages from a cash bar and mocktail bar\, and snacks will be served. \nThere will be an in-person 50/50 raffle at the event\, and people may also make an optional donation when they RSVP to attend (guelpharts.ca/gacgac)\, or contribute to GAC’s ongoing donation appeal online by visiting guelpharts.ca/about/donate. \nWe’re so grateful to all of you who have shaped GAC over the past 50 years\, and who will continue to shape us through the next 50. DESCRIPTION:May 13.2025 6:00pm – 8:30pm\n\n\nLocation: The Boathouse Tea Room\, 116 Gordon St\, Guelph ON\nPrice: Free\nWalking as Remapping\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis walk invites participants to engage in an exploration of place through poetry. Inspired by the practice of ecological mapping and the work of writer Anna Swanson\, participants will use sight\, sound\, and texture as tools for gathering language from the world around us on this walk along the Speed and Eramosa Rivers. Throughout the walk\, landscape and cityscape will be observed not just as scenery\, but as layered texts: full of found language\, silences\, and ruptures. \nStarting and ending at the Covered Bridge steps by the Boathouse Tea Room\, this walk includes moments of observation\, note-taking\, and guided prompts that encourage poetic response. The poems created—individually and together—become a remapping of Guelph based on the sensory\, emotional\, and imagined textures of the city. No experience with poetry is required—just a willingness to walk\, to notice\, and to listen. Registration is required.

DESCRIPTION:ANIMA Early Music is thrilled to present The Sign of Jonas; An Apocalypse Folktale\, with texts by Luke Hathaway & music by Benton Roark. This (55-minute) work will be performed by Mother Country\, a beautiful roots music ensemble led by Benton Roark (voice\, banjo\, guitar & piano) and featuring Andrew Ivens (voice\, mandolin\, guitar\, piano & lap steel)\, Phil Albert (voice & bass) & Chris Hull (percussion). Mother Country will be joined by ANIMA’s artist co-directors\, Daniel Cabena (voice & fiddle) & Luke Hathaway (spoken word). \nHere are a few notes about this work from composer Benton Roark: \nSparse in construction\, timeless in imagery\, arcane in meaning\, and proto-mythical in characters and narrative\, The Sign of Jonas superimposes personal apocalypse on environmental and cultural collapse. It imagines a song cycle lost and found: a musical manuscript orphaned by the cataclysms of the 21st century\, and rewakened to ritual life far in the future. The fragmentary text speaks of travelling\, of death and rebirth\, of decay and regeneration; the music is a ritualized series of part songs\, responsorials\, chants\, chorales\, and incantations\, performed as a folk-music-pageant-mystery-play\, complete with communal singing and other forms of audience participation. When our lives end\, they continue in one another.

DESCRIPTION:The Guelph Book Bash Festival is an annual celebration of the books published by Guelph and area authors over the previous year. The event is presented by Vocamus Writers Community. \nThis year\, it will be held on Sunday November 3\, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM\, at the Guelph Farmers’ Market. \nOver thirty authors will be in attendance to sell their books\, chat with attendees\, and sign copies. The authors will be joined by many of Guelph’s micro-presses\, bookstores\, libraries\, cultural groups\, and literacy organizations\, all the people who help make up our great local book culture. \nThere will also be storytelling and free books for children\, a leave-a-book-take-a-book table\, a book composting demonstration\, food and refreshments for sale\, live music\,gift wrapping\, and other fun! \nThere is no cost for the event\, but donations will be accepted for Action Read\, a local charity that provides literacy programs in the community. \n“As a writer\, I’ve participated at the Book Bash each time I have new work to share. No\, it is not a\nFahrenheit 451 style destruction of radical writing\, nor is it a standard book sale. The actual authors\nstaff the tables. The atmosphere is celebratory\, and the wares are unique. There’s nothing more\nfulfilling for me\, as the author\, to be able to explain my book and meet readers who have enjoyed my\nprevious publications. SUMMARY:Applications for the Pay it Forward Arts Fund now open through Art Not Shame
DESCRIPTION:The Pay it Forward Arts Fund (PIFAF) is a gift of artist Barbara Salsberg Mathews and her husband Bruce Mathews. The award helps local artists\, in any discipline\, fund art projects that “pay it forward” and benefit the community. \nThe PIFAF takes many forms by using the arts to heal\, give a hand-up\, help build self-esteem\, beautify our environment\, or enrich and improve others’ lives. It was designed to encourage artists to rise to the challenge and “pay it forward” by using their talents to help others and the Guelph community. The PIFAF runs for a total of four years. Art Not Shame will administer the fund with the goal of amplifying local community-engaged arts projects. \nWho is Eligible \nAny artist (or group of artists) age 18 or over\, working in Guelph and is a permanent citizen of Canada or persons upon whom refugee protection has been conferred\, and who are legally entitled to work in Ontario. They are invited to submit proposals for creative projects that pay it forward and benefit the community. A preference may be given to those who demonstrate a long-standing connection to the Guelph community. All artistic mediums are welcome to apply. \nWhat is Eligible \nGuelph-Wellington area artists are invited to submit proposals for creative projects that focus on improving lives and thereby enriching our community. The award could take many forms by using the arts to heal\, give a hand-up\, help build self-esteem\, beautify our environment\, or enrich and improve others’ lives. \nThese projects must be original in nature (this fund does not support events\, projects or programs that have already been established) and cannot have begun prior to the award being granted. The project should be able to be completed within the funding requested. \nAmount of Award \nThis grant will fund one or more projects of up to $6\,000.
