DESCRIPTION:This year\, the Guelph Pipe Band celebrates their 100th Anniversary! On Wednesday\, September 14 at 6:30 pm the Guelph Pipe Band will perform a concert in full regalia at McCrae House Memorial Gardens. \nThis special performance is free\, simply show up to witness the piping and drumming magic! You’ll need to bring your own lawn chairs\, and this event is weather dependent. If rain is forecasted\, keep an eye on our socials for cancellation updates. \nMcCrae House is located at 108 Water Street. For more information call 519-836-1221 or email museum@guelph.ca. \nAbout the Guelph Pipe Band: \nThe Guelph Pipe Band was founded in 1922\, and in 2022 is celebrating 100 years of continuous activity! The band has a roster of over 70 playing pipers and drummers. New piping and drumming students are welcome.

DESCRIPTION:Guelph Museums and Culture launches Culture Days with a Fourth Friday performance by Silas Chinsen\, a Guelph-based musician\, composer\, and producer. Catch his Guelph Museums debut on our patio overlooking beautiful Downtown Guelph. \nEvery Fourth Friday of the month enjoy free admission to the Civic Museum from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.\, and a free concert starting at 7 p.m. \nTickets will be available August 26\, 2022. Reserve yours on Eventbrite! \nThe concert will also be streamed on our Facebook Page\, and available for a limited time afterwards on our YouTube channel and Museum Everywhere portal. This event takes place on the Civic Museum patio\, weather permitting\, please dress accordingly. \nDue to high demand for seating\, please arrive at the Museum and take your seat by 6:50 pm. Seats not claimed by this time may be re-assigned to rush line visitors.\n \nPlease let us know in advance if you can no longer attend so we can release the ticket to others wishing to attend. \nCash bar. \n\nAbout Silas Chinsen: \nSilas completed his Bachelors and Masters of Music at the University of Ottawa\, with a major in classical guitar and a minor in classical voice. He performs multi-genre concerts\, navigating live loops\, guitar\, piano and vocal synthesizer with a mixture of his own compositions\, classical repertoire\, and original arrangements. \nCulture Days happens annually from September 23 to October 16. \nWhere art meets heritage meets a passion for the natural environment\, That’s So Guelph! SUMMARY:Culture Days: Reshaping Ruins presented by Guelph’s Artists in Residence
DESCRIPTION:Experience the Goldie Mill Ruins brought to life through light\, art\, and sound! Reshaping Ruins is an interactive art project that nurtures the community’s connection between the historic past and vibrant present of Goldie Mill Ruins. The project will reanimate Goldie Mill by bringing community-made visual art\, poetry\, and music into the space. \nThe project began with a call for poetry\, with the winning submission by Jeremy Luke-Hill being used as the text for a choral composition\, based on the creative prompt “How does it feel to experience an old space in a new light?” Local singers of all experience levels were invited to an interactive workshop where they learned\, performed\, and recorded the choir piece. The choral recordings were then manipulated into a more abstract\, ambient track to be played during the exhibition to inspire the visual art component. \nThe culminating exhibition will feature collaborative painting projections\, light\, and sound. The projection will consist of abstract and gestural painting\, paired with video footage of life in Guelph. The collaborative painting will mix with the music\, and animate the sounds flowing through the space\, while the videos will highlight the movements of people and nature in Guelph bringing the motion of life into the ruins. The works will be projected in real-time as the audience interacts with the space\, casting shadows onto the old building and bringing it to life with movement. \nThis project is created by Guelph’s 2022 Artists in Residence – Sophia Chilton\, Caleb Bray\, and Silas Chinsen.

SUMMARY:Conversations in Pipigwan Flute with Rene Meshake
DESCRIPTION:Participate in the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation with Ojibwe multidisciplinary artist and residential school survivor Rene Meshake. Rene will present Conversations in Pipigwan Flute\, a presentation of Anishinaabe storytelling\, poetry\, music\, and song. \nThis event is free\, and in-person attendance requires advanced registration. Sign up through Eventbrite. \nThe event will also be livestreamed on our Facebook page for those wishing to tune in from home. \nAbout Rene Meshake: \nAn Ojibwe funky elder\, visual and performing artist\, award-winning author\, storyteller\, flute player\, new media artist and a Recipient of Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. Rene works to fuse Ojibwe and English words into his stories\, poetry and spoken word performances\, Rene communicates his Ojibwe spiritual heritage to the contemporary world. He was born in the railway town of Nakina in Northwestern Ontario and was raised by his Okomissan grandmother. His education includes: Anishinaabe oral tradition\, language\, arts and culture. \nRene has a diploma in Graphic Design from Sheridan College and a certificate in Creative Writing from the Humber School for Writers. Rene’s body of artwork\, stories and his flute improvisations create a strong\, expressive\, and entertaining presentation for an ever-increasing audience. He also has an active on-line and performing presence as a Funky-Elder and his ‘virtual’ band\, The Firebolt Ensemble.
