DESCRIPTION:Join us for a vibrant celebration of Culture Days at the Guelph Youth Music Centre on Saturday\, October 5\, 2024\, from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm! Immerse yourself in a day filled with complimentary activities\, workshops\, open rehearsals\, and performances. \nPop in to observe string orchestra rehearsals or take part in interactive sessions including choral workshops led by the talented Guelph Youth Singers\, a flute choir workshop guided by Rosanne Warren from the Guelph School of Music\, a musical theatre dance class with Dance Spirit Studios\, and a Music Together class designed for children 0-5 and their grownups. \nExplore the instrument petting zoo hosted by the Suzuki String School of Guelph\, where guests are encouraged to pick up and try out different instruments. The day will culminate in a showcase at 4:00 pm in the GYMC Recital Hall highlighting performances by various GYMC organizations. SUMMARY:Songbird: an Unconventional Choir by Joni NehRita at Art Not Shame
DESCRIPTION:Art Not Shame is excited to host local musician\, song-writer\, and producer\, Joni NehRita in offering an 8-week community choir workshop called\, Songbird: An Unconventional Choir. \nSongbird will invite community members to participate in the art of choral singing\, regardless of past choral experience\, musical skill or ability. Over the course of 8-weeks\, participants will learn to sing in harmony with others as they explore music that engages with themes of social justice\, equity\, and change and across multiple genres (e.g. pop\, reggae\, calypso\, gospel\, and jazz). NehRita adopts a “Música do Círculo” methodology\, an approach that uses improvisation\, body percussion\, movement and play.  \nCentring inclusivity\, Songbirds is open to people of all genders and uses neutral names for different choral positions (e.g. ‘low\, mid-low\, and high’ instead of ‘bass\, tenor\, and soprano’) to support inclusion. The program will culminate in a final performance welcoming participants’ family and friends and community members into Art Not Shame’s new community arts hub.  \n\nWhat: Songbird: an Unconventional Choir by Joni NehRita\nTime & Date: Tuesdays\, 7-9pm from October 8th – November 26th\nLocation: Art Not Shame: 119 Wyndham St. North.\nCost: $225 for 8 weeks (please contact maeve.hind@artnotshame.org if this is a barrier to participation).\n\nArt Not Shame welcomes requests for any specific access needs so they can make the workshop fully accommodating. DESCRIPTION:BEN CAPLAN is a Canadian singer-songwriter and entertainer known for his energetic live shows and award-winning studio recordings. Perpetually on tour since 2011\, Ben has played nearly 2000 concerts in 28 countries in that time. His 2018 project Old Stock was both an album and a highly-acclaimed musical theatre production which has toured the world since 2017\, including a 7-week Off-Broadway run which garnered 6 Drama Desk Award nominations\, a NYTimes Critic’s Pick\, and numerous other international accolades.
