This program brings together three works where personal confession\, folk memory\, and historical upheaval quietly shape the music from behind the scenes.\n\nBeethoven’s String Quartet in F major\, Op. 18\, No. 1 finds a young composer testing the boundaries of a genre he would soon transform — confidence and experimentation woven into a classical frame. Smetana’s String Quartet No. 2 in D minor\, written as his hearing failed him\, reads like a private diary of fear and resilience. DESCRIPTION:Violinist SADIE FIELDS returns from Edinburgh\, Scotland\, to join her duo partner/pianist KEN GEE for a Guelph Musicfest ENCORE concert at the Guelph Youth Music Centre. \nIn 1935\, the violinist Fritz Kreisler admitted something he’d hidden for decades: several “long-lost” Baroque pieces he’d been performing\, including tonight’s Sicilienne et Rigaudon\, supposedly “in the style of Francoeur”\, were his own invention all along. His response to the outcry: “The name changes\, the value remains.” \nThat question — what changes when we look back and remake something — runs through the whole programme.
