DESCRIPTION:July 24 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm\, Guelph Civic Museum \n5pm Doors\, 7pm Showtime \nMore info here \nClose your eyes and you might just imagine you’re in New Orleans on a hot summer night! \nThe Dufferin Groove bring their cool\, cozy\, and cheerful Trad Jazz vibe to the Civic Museum patio\, reviving music from the 1920s and 30s by greats like Louis Armstrong\, Jelly Roll Morton\, and Joe “King” Oliver. \nGather your favourite people\, grab a cool drink\, and settle in for an evening of timeless tunes. \nAdmission by donation starts at 5 p.m. with the concert beginning at 7 p.m. Cash bar available. \nAbout the Artists\nLaurent Humeau (trumpet\, clarinet\, soprano\, vocals)\, Jared Higgins (tenor banjo)\, and Ashleigh Rose (tuba) \nLaurent Humeau (France) started playing guitar at an early age with his father\, fell in love with the music of New Orleans\, and taught himself soprano saxophone\, clarinet\, and trumpet. His love for performing the music of the greats\, like Louis Armstrong\, Johnny Dodds\, Django Reinhardt\, and Sydney Bechet\, has taken him around the world. He leads multiple projects in Canada and Europe including the Jungle Jazz Band\, and is delighted to be returning to the Guelph Civic Museum. \nAshleigh Rose (Canada)\, is a classically trained pianist and saxophonist and grand-daughter of the founder of the Etobicoke Philharmonic Orchestra. She transitioned to tuba and sousaphone within the fanfare culture of southern Europe and later the brass band culture of Berlin\, Germany. She has played with the Titubanda (Rome)\, Salsa Azul (Berlin) the Berlin Brass Caravan (Berlin)\, Marching Disorder (Toronto)\, and The Happy Pals (Toronto). \nJared Higgins (Canada) is a Toronto local who has been playing professionally in the scene since graduating Humber College in 2016. Since then\, he has become ubiquitous in the Toronto swing music scene\, playing with acts like Trombone Charlotte\, The Tap Room Gang\, Tak Arikushi\, The Happy Pals\, and more.

SUMMARY:Audio Feedback as a Creative Tool
DESCRIPTION:Audio feedback can be an unbounded fury that screeches\, thunders\, and pierces the air\, but within its chaos lives vast potential for dynamic sonic behaviours and colour. In this workshop\, participants will learn the fundamentals of working with feedback in an eardrum-friendly way while maintaining its liveliness. Topics will include tools and techniques for safely and creatively interacting with audio feedback\, notable feedback artists\, works\, and instruments\, and non-audio uses of feedback. Participants will have opportunities for hands-on experience with feedback using microphones\, speakers\, contact mics and exciters\, feedback instruments\, and various processing tools. DESCRIPTION:Toronto-based folk duo Basset are full of timeless heart. With deeply human lyrics and harmonies reminiscent of the early folk revival\, CBC Q’s Tom Power says\, “I think you’re going to love this.” Their debut album In the Clay was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award. With a live show that is sincere and disarmingly funny\, they’ve performed at Mariposa\, Winnipeg\, and Celtic Connections Folk Festivals. In 2026\, they’ll tour Australia\, Canada\, and Europe\, promoting their upcoming album Human Nature. bassettheband.com \nJanice Jo Lee (she/they) is a contemporary folk-fusion musician\, composer\, sound designer\, spoken word poet\, actor-clown\, director\, facilitator and educator born and based in Toronto. Her artwork explores climate grief\, antiracism\, loneliness\, workers rights\, queer joy\, and her Korean heritage. She is a dynamic and engaging performer\, and performs with a guitar\, trumpet\, vocal looping and jjangu drum. As a professional educator\, she has facilitated arts and anti-oppression workshops for 15 years. Janice Jo Lee has toured across Canada with her music and poetry. This program brings together three works where personal confession\, folk memory\, and historical upheaval quietly shape the music from behind the scenes.\n\nBeethoven’s String Quartet in F major\, Op. 18\, No. 1 finds a young composer testing the boundaries of a genre he would soon transform — confidence and experimentation woven into a classical frame. Smetana’s String Quartet No. 2 in D minor\, written as his hearing failed him\, reads like a private diary of fear and resilience. DESCRIPTION:Violinist SADIE FIELDS returns from Edinburgh\, Scotland\, to join her duo partner/pianist KEN GEE for a Guelph Musicfest ENCORE concert at the Guelph Youth Music Centre. \nIn 1935\, the violinist Fritz Kreisler admitted something he’d hidden for decades: several “long-lost” Baroque pieces he’d been performing\, including tonight’s Sicilienne et Rigaudon\, supposedly “in the style of Francoeur”\, were his own invention all along. His response to the outcry: “The name changes\, the value remains.” \nThat question — what changes when we look back and remake something — runs through the whole programme.
