DESCRIPTION:Violinist SADIE FIELDS returns to Guelph from Belgium to join pianist/director KEN GEE for another Musicfest ENCORE recital. But this one is going to be very special indeed. \nThe Roaring 20s was a decade of incredible energy and creativity around the world\, particularly in Paris as well as North America. Like now\, it was an amazing comeback from the great influenza pandemic of 1918 with Jazz having big influence on “Classical” music. This program concept was created by Sadie and her excitement and love for the music of the 1920s. Last year’s Roaring 20s concert was such a hit that we had to do a SEQUEL!

The FESTIVAL TRIO with violinist SADIE FIELDS (from Belgium)\, cellist PAUL PULFORD (from New Brunswick) and pianist/festival director KEN GEE to perform the famous FOUR SEASONS by both Vivaldi and Piazzolla\, back to back and season by season! \nThis will be a remarkable concert\, perfect for the approaching Winter season\, pairing Vivaldi’s famous Four Seasons with the truly “cool” Four Seasons of Buenos Airesby Piazzolla. This is a chance to hear Sadie perform the Vivaldi in Canada after captivating European audiences with her performances there. It will feature an original continuo arrangement for piano and cello. The Piazzolla is arranged for piano trio and will have you rocking to the music. Not to be missed!

Please book in advance at https://www.edenmills.ca/calendar \n“A man of formidable talents” (Charlottetown Evening Patriot) Valdy has been singing\, recording and touring for more than 50 years. In fact\, his Eden Mills performance is part of a breath-taking national tour this season that takes him from Newfoundland to British Columbia. \nValdy was born Paul-Valdemar Horsdal in Ottawa. His career as a singer/songwriter and guitarist has taken him around the world. He is especially remembered for ‘Play Me a Rock and Roll Song’\, his bitter-sweet memory of finding himself\, a relaxed and amiable story-teller\, facing a rambunctious audience at the Aldergrove Rock Festival circa 1968. \nSince then he has sold almost half a million copies of his 13 albums\, has two Juno Awards (Folk Singer of the Year and Folk Entertainer of the Year)\, a total of seven Juno nominations and four Gold albums to his credit. He is a member of the Order of Canada\, a musician “as generous as he is talented who performs frequently at charity events and is a long-time advocate of literacy in Canada.” \nValdy songs include ‘A Good Song’ (notably performed by Quincy Jones under the title ‘Just a Man’)\, ‘Peter & Lou’\, ‘Yes I Can’\, ‘Renaissance’\, and ‘Sonny’s Dream.’ His recent CDs include ‘Contenders’\, a collaboration with friend and fellow singer/songwriter\, Gary Fjellgaard\, and a solo release ‘Viva Valdy: Live at Last’\, a two-CD package\, one live\, one studio\, with a total of 25 tunes. \nMusic at the Hall programs concerts and events to keep the village of Eden Mills hopping\, and to raise funds for Community Hall operations. SUMMARY:Songbird: an Unconventional Choir by Joni NehRita at Art Not Shame
DESCRIPTION:Art Not Shame is excited to host local musician\, song-writer\, and producer\, Joni NehRita in offering an 8-week community choir workshop called\, Songbird: An Unconventional Choir. \nSongbird will invite community members to participate in the art of choral singing\, regardless of past choral experience\, musical skill or ability. Over the course of 8-weeks\, participants will learn to sing in harmony with others as they explore music that engages with themes of social justice\, equity\, and change and across multiple genres (e.g. pop\, reggae\, calypso\, gospel\, and jazz). NehRita adopts a “Música do Círculo” methodology\, an approach that uses improvisation\, body percussion\, movement and play.  \nCentring inclusivity\, Songbirds is open to people of all genders and uses neutral names for different choral positions (e.g. ‘low\, mid-low\, and high’ instead of ‘bass\, tenor\, and soprano’) to support inclusion. SUMMARY:Applications for the Pay it Forward Arts Fund now open through Art Not Shame
DESCRIPTION:The Pay it Forward Arts Fund (PIFAF) is a gift of artist Barbara Salsberg Mathews and her husband Bruce Mathews. The award helps local artists\, in any discipline\, fund art projects that “pay it forward” and benefit the community. \nThe PIFAF takes many forms by using the arts to heal\, give a hand-up\, help build self-esteem\, beautify our environment\, or enrich and improve others’ lives. It was designed to encourage artists to rise to the challenge and “pay it forward” by using their talents to help others and the Guelph community. The PIFAF runs for a total of four years. Art Not Shame will administer the fund with the goal of amplifying local community-engaged arts projects. \nWho is Eligible \nAny artist (or group of artists) age 18 or over\, working in Guelph and is a permanent citizen of Canada or persons upon whom refugee protection has been conferred\, and who are legally entitled to work in Ontario. They are invited to submit proposals for creative projects that pay it forward and benefit the community. A preference may be given to those who demonstrate a long-standing connection to the Guelph community. All artistic mediums are welcome to apply. \nWhat is Eligible \nGuelph-Wellington area artists are invited to submit proposals for creative projects that focus on improving lives and thereby enriching our community. The award could take many forms by using the arts to heal\, give a hand-up\, help build self-esteem\, beautify our environment\, or enrich and improve others’ lives. \nThese projects must be original in nature (this fund does not support events\, projects or programs that have already been established) and cannot have begun prior to the award being granted. The project should be able to be completed within the funding requested. \nAmount of Award \nThis grant will fund one or more projects of up to $6\,000.

Earlier this year\, annais received news that her landlords were returning back to their Guelph home – meaning she would have to move. She arrived at The Ward in September 2020 from California to begin grad school and hardly knew anyone. Since then\, she’s grown to love Guelph and all its beings! This installation is a kiss goodbye to her Johnston house which held her in the darkest of isolation-times\, as well as a goodbye to The Ward\, Guelph\, and all the relationships she made throughout the last four years overall. \nExhibition Reception: Thursday August 22nd\, 7-9pm

There’s also lots of fun with games\, camp projects and team-building activities. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nAt the end of the week\, campers have a final day pizza party while preparing for a free mini-concert for parents and friends. \nBand Camp Junior is a week-long day camp for kids in grades 2-6 who want to explore their love of music through games and demonstrations with new friends. \nAt Band Camp Junior\, kids have fun with hands-on introductory workshops with some cool instruments and experience a wide variety of music styles. Led by keen musicians and educators\, campers enjoy participating a wide variety of musical activities\, from bucket drumming to body percussion to music theory and everything in between. \nCampers will try out different types of instruments alongside dedicated music mentors. They will introduce us to the varied and powerful tunes by iconic jazz violinists Jean-Luc Ponty\, Didier Lockwood\, Zbigniew Seifert and Adam Baldych. Working together\, we create and commission new works of text and music that are in conversation with early sources and soundworlds. We put these works up on their feet in novel performance contexts (workshops\, teach-ins\, touring programs …). We collaborate with other artists whose worlds of sound and spirit enrich our own.

DESCRIPTION:Guelph Musicfest 2024 presents The Festival Trio. Violinist Sadie Fields (Brussels) and cellist Paul Pulford (NB) join pianist/director Ken Gee for the season opener. Paul\, Sadie and Ken are the founding members of the trio\, and look forward to their annual reunion! The program pairs two of the greatest trios ever written – the invigorating Beethoven Trio no. 1 in E-flat and the sublime Schubert Trio no. 1 in B flat – with a mesmerizing and magical trio by British composer Charlotte Bray. NOTE: Reserved Seating is SOLD OUT. A few standby seats may be available. The program is also being present at the K-W Chamber Music Society on Thursday May 23 at 7 pm at Keffer Memorial Chapel\, Wilfrid Laurier University. Tickets $35 adults & $10 students at the door.
