DESCRIPTION:Honouring the spirit and legacy of Black music \nBeau Dixon’s acclaimed Freedom! comes to River Run Centre on February 4 \nGUELPH\, ON January 10\, 2023 – Celebrate the Black artists who helped shape popular music with Freedom! at River Run Centre on Saturday\, February 4 at 8 p.m. The Main Stage event\, presented during Black History Month\, is a part of River Run Centre’s Showcase Series\, bringing acclaimed live productions to the stage. \nFrom church hymnals\, blues\, and jazz to rock ’n’ roll\, R&B\, and rap\, music history is inextricably tied to Black culture. But many exceptional Black musicians have been lost in history while their white counterparts went on to fame. Freedom! – featuring a company of 10 outstanding performers – gives credit where credit is due\, honouring the contributions of Black artists who helped shape popular music. \nCreated by\, starring\, and under the musical direction of Beau Dixon\, Freedom! won critical acclaim as part of Stratford Festival’s 2021 Cabaret series. The production features music by celebrated artists including Bob Marley\, Marvin Gaye\, Stevie Wonder\, and Sam Cooke as well as several  lesser-known musicians forgotten to history. \n“Black music\, at its heart\, is about freedom – not just the idea of social and economic freedom driven by racial injustice\, but a freedom of the mind and soul\,” Dixon says. “With the help of my talented brothers and sisters\, we will lift up just a few of these voices – the lesser-known and forgotten artists\, and the celebrated successes\, shining a light on the history\, culture\, spirit\, and legacy of Black music.” \nBeau Dixon is an award-winning actor\, musician\, playwright\, music director\, and sound designer. His plays have been commissioned\, performed\, and produced across Canada\, including his award-winning work\, Beneath Springhill: The Maurice Ruddick Story\, which earned him two Dora Mavor Moore Awards for Outstanding New Play and Outstanding Individual Performance. \nTickets to see Freedom! are $49 for adults\, $47 for patrons over 60\, and $29 for those under 30 years old. DESCRIPTION:Globally celebrated artist tells his story during In Conversation with Pavlo\, at River Run Centre February 7 \nInternationally renowned instrumentalist Pavlo shares the story behind his moving Mediterranean music during In Conversation with Pavlo at River Run Centre on Tuesday\, February 7 at 8 p.m. The award-winning artist sits down with host Cameron Smillie as part of Miijidaa Life Stories\, featuring unscripted\, on-stage interviews with remarkable individuals and artists. \nBlending Greek\, flamenco\, Latin\, and Balkan sounds with contemporary pop\, Pavlo’s instrumental Mediterranean music speaks for itself. The award-winning artist\, performer\, and songwriter has released 15 albums and recorded four PBS concerts for television\, including last year’s special\, Pavlo: Live in Santorini. Pavlo’s music has taken him around the world including performances for King Charles III when he was Prince of Wales\, and working with artists such as Jon Secada\, Olivia Newton-John\, and The Tenors. \n“A gifted guitarist who melds the sounds of the Mediterranean\, flamenco\, Latin\, Greek\, Balkan and pop\,” The Spokesman-Review says of Pavlo. \nPavlo’s recent recordings include the albums Santorini (2022)\, Live in Guadalajara (2019)\, Together (2019)\, and The Ultimate Collection (2017). His PBS concert specials include Pavlo: Mediterranean Nights (2008)\, Pavlo: Live in Kastoria (2016)\, and Pavlo: Live in Guadalajara (2019). \nIn Conversation with Pavlo is part of River Run Centre’s Miijidaa Life Stories\, featuring artists discussing their craft during an unscripted\, on-stage interview. He was also one of the top\nthree automotive after-sales managers in the country working for Policaro Porsche for his last\nseven years.\nOriginal band members\, Johnny Cusinato and Jason Damaren along with new band\nmembers Dave Huber\, D’eve Archer and Attila Toth join together to form the new Dirty\nYellow Cab. The band will recreate the songs of the original band’s first studio album (formerly\nDoeline) live as well as perform some never before released music.\nThe band will be joined by actor\, director and television host\, Frank Licari (John’s brother)\nwho will MC the event and perform a few songs with the band including an original song that\nhe wrote for his brother.
