DESCRIPTION:Eden Mills is proud to present the distinguished Jim Gelcer/Paul Hoffert Trio featuring George Koller on Saturday\, May 4. The performance takes place at 7:30 pm in the Eden Mills Community Hall.  The trio features Lighthouse band co-founder Paul Hoffert on piano\, Jim Gelcer on drums and George Koller on bass. \nTickets may be purchased in advance here! \nThe Trio will wow music lovers with an eclectic and varied show filled with singular\, inimitable compositions drawn from jazz and pop classics and from their two critically acclaimed albums – “How High the Bird” and “Jim and Paul with Glenn and Ludwig.” Jim Gelcer adds this tantalizing hint: “I don’t want to give away too many surprises\, but there might be some homages to Lighthouse as well.” \nAudio Link:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fH8Tt8ltD84  \nHoffert\, one of the founding members of the seminal 1970s Canadian rock band Lighthouse\, is a prolific composer\, author\, academic as well as a recipient of the Order of Canada. Gelcer\, a renowned jazz drummer\, producer and composer\, has lent his talent to artists ranging from rocker Lee Aaron to the Flying Bulgar Klezmer Band. Bassist Koller is a multi-instrumentalist with an ear for jazz and world music\, who has performed for musicians including Peter Gabriel\, Holly Cole and Chaka Khan. \nTogether\, these three living legends of Canadian music complement each other’s musical gifts by breezing through intricately arranged classical and jazz pieces seamlessly. Their 2018 album\, Jim and Paul play Glenn and Ludwig\, saw the group play thoroughly scintillating\, jazz-infused\, original versions of Beethoven music through the lens of Canadian icon Glenn Gould. \n“Music at the Hall” programs concerts and events to keep Eden Mills hopping\, and to raise funds for the Community Hall operations.  The heritage Hall is proud to be carbon neutral!

DESCRIPTION:Guelph Musicfest 2024 presents The Festival Trio. Violinist Sadie Fields (Brussels) and cellist Paul Pulford (NB) join pianist/director Ken Gee for the season opener. Paul\, Sadie and Ken are the founding members of the trio\, and look forward to their annual reunion! The program pairs two of the greatest trios ever written – the invigorating Beethoven Trio no. 1 in E-flat and the sublime Schubert Trio no. 1 in B flat – with a mesmerizing and magical trio by British composer Charlotte Bray. NOTE: Reserved Seating is SOLD OUT. A few standby seats may be available. The program is also being present at the K-W Chamber Music Society on Thursday May 23 at 7 pm at Keffer Memorial Chapel\, Wilfrid Laurier University. Tickets $35 adults & $10 students at the door.

DESCRIPTION:Guelph Musicfest 2024 presents virtuoso pianist Sheng Cai. Recently described as “having the inner passion paired with Rubinstein’s nonchalance” by Thüringer Allgemeine in Germany\, Canadian pianist Sheng Cai has embraced the keyboard tradition\, which epitomizes the greatness of the romantic virtuoso. His performances of major keyboard works of the past centuries have touched audiences and won the praise of critics on four continents. He was featured in the Season Opening Concert of the Guelph Symphony Orchestra with a brilliant performance of Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto no. 2. Sheng Cai returns to Guelph Musicfest with a solo recital featuring music by Rachmaninov plus Beethoven\, Chopin and Morawetz. This is part of PIANO DUO series with Stewart Goodyear playing all-Gershwin on June 7\, available at a special price.
