We want to celebrate with you! \nWhen: Saturday\, November 22\, 2025\, 7pm (programming to begin at 7:30pm) \nWhere: GAC’s new home in Old Quebec Street Shoppes. \nWhy should you come: GAC wouldn’t exist without an arts community to serve\, so we’d like to celebrate with the people who have inspired us for 50 years. There’s also a chance that GAC has supported you in your Guelph arts life\, whether that’s as an organization that got its start with support from GAC many years ago\, or as an individual who has shown in our gallery space\, received an award\, participated in our mentorship program or Art on the Street\, or any other things over the past 50 years. \nWe’re also unveiling the new “Sally Wismer Gallery” that night\, named after GAC’s longtime Executive Director\, volunteer and friend\, so maybe you’d like to come and celebrate that too. \nBasically\, if you love the arts\, you love our community\, and you love a chance to gather with friends in the sector\, this is the place for you. \nWe’re calling the event “folk formal”\, meaning all are welcome to come as formally (or informally) dressed as they’d like\, and the night’s program will feature dance\, spoken word/performance arts\, and musical performances\, video screenings\, as well as a chance for attendees to participate in a community craft project (beading) and a community literature project\, where they will be encouraged to write down their favourite Guelph arts memories from the past 50 years with the intention of publishing a keepsake book. \nAttendees may enjoy beverages from a cash bar and mocktail bar\, and snacks will be served. \nThere will be an in-person 50/50 raffle at the event\, and people may also make an optional donation when they RSVP to attend (guelpharts.ca/gacgac)\, or contribute to GAC’s ongoing donation appeal online by visiting guelpharts.ca/about/donate. \nWe’re so grateful to all of you who have shaped GAC over the past 50 years\, and who will continue to shape us through the next 50. She is joined by the fine musicianship of veteran rock players Richie Sarlo (guitar)\, Ed Miller (drums)\, and Daev Mulholland (bass) – bio’s below. Gayle sang on the Bolero Cruise ship for Regent Holidays. Over the years she has  shared the stage as a guest singer with Jeff Healy\, Jack DeKeyser\, James Gordon\, Jimmy Rankin\, Robbie Lane and many more well-loved Canadians. DESCRIPTION:Violinist Sadie Fields returns to Canada from Belgium to join friend/pianist/Musicfest director Ken Gee for another Guelph Musicfest Fall ENCORE recital as Guelph Musicfest 2025 continues its musical journey Around the World! \nEast to West—a Musical Journey presents music from Japan to Canada. The concert in the Recital Hall of the Guelph Youth Music Centre includes Takemitsu\, Distance de Fée; Bartók\, Romanian Folk Dances; Brahms\, Violin Sonata No. 1 in G major; Weinberg\, Two Songs without Words; Raminsh\, Aria (1987); Enman\, Imagined Shapes (2022). \nThis concert is the second of Guelph Musicfest’s Encore series\, which includes a concert by the Zemlinsky String Quartet (from Prague) on Saturday October 25 at the GYMC. More information at https://guelphmusicfest.ca \nSadie and Ken have been performing together as a duo and in the Festival Trio for many years. During that time\, they have built on a common sense of musicality and close friendship that makes for wonderful performances. \nSadie enjoys a richly varied career as a soloist\, chamber musician\, curator\, and artistic director. Her love affair with the violin began at the age of seven when her primary school visited the renowned Axelrod collection of Stradivarius violins. Mesmerized by the sound\, she convinced her mother to let her start lessons\, leading to a lifelong dedication to the instrument. \nPerforming regularly across Europe and North America\, Sadie’s concerts also take her to destinations further afield\, including Asia\, the Middle East\, and New Zealand. A passionate advocate for chamber music\, she was the founding leader of the Castalian String Quartet and violinist of Trio Khnopff. She also founded the Belgium-based Flash Ensemble\, a flexible chamber group centred around a string trio\, and is a member of the Festival Trio in Canada. In addition to her ensemble work\, Sadie collaborates with a range of distinguished pianists and recently formed a duo with Italian accordionist Luca Piovesan. Most recently\, Sadie has been appointed leader of the acclaimed Edinburgh Quartet\, an ensemble with a rich history spanning over more than 60 years. \nAs a recording artist\, Sadie’s most recent recording features Flash Ensemble’s pioneering interpretation of the complete string trios by Hungarian composer László Lajtha (Pavane Records\, 2023)\, and was awarded 5 stars in Diapason. Another recording\, ‘Weinberg – 1945’\, by Trio Khnopff\, was celebrated by critics in both Europe and North America and was selected as BBC Music Magazine’s ‘Chamber Disc of the Month’ for January 2020. Sadie’s discography also includes several recordings for BIS Records with Camerata Nordica (Sweden)\, and two highly acclaimed albums with Champs Hill Records. Her Mendelssohn chamber music disc earned BBC Music Magazine’s Editor’s Choice and ‘Chamber Disc of the Month’ honours\, as well as the German Record Critics’ Award for ‘Chamber Music Disc of the Quarter.’ Her second Champs Hill release\, featuring the complete Brahms Sonatas with pianist Jeremy Young\, also received widespread critical acclaim. \nSadie is the founder and director of the Mini Concerts series in Brussels\, and has recently taken up the role of artistic director of the Music in Rannoch concert series in the Highlands of Scotland. \nSadie holds a PhD from the Royal Academy of Music in London\, where her practice-led doctoral research explored practical and philosophical ideas surrounding the concepts of learning and tradition\, with a focus on her engagement with Bartók’s violin works. She has been awarded prizes and scholarships from over twenty UK and international organizations\, and she has held prestigious fellowships\, including the Leverhulme Fellowship at the Royal Academy of Music and the Edison Visiting Fellowship at the British Library. \nGuided by principal teachers György Pauk\, Yair Kless\, and Atis Bankas\, Sadie has also benefited from the mentorship of Ivry Gitlis\, Ida Haendel\, and Ferenc Rados. As an educator\, she teaches violin and chamber music\, has taught at King’s College London\, and offers masterclasses at conservatories and universities in China\, Canada\, and the UK. \nSadie plays on a very fine Italian violin made by Gioffredo Cappa in 1687.

The quartet will appear at the Recital Hall of the Guelph Youth Music Centre. \nPROGRAM: Beethoven’s Quartet in F minor “Serioso” Op. 95; Janáček’s Quartet No. 1 “Kreutzer Sonata”; and Dvořák’s famous “American” Quartet\, Op. 96 in F major. \nThis concert is the first of Guelph Musicfest’s Fall Encore series\, which includes a recital by violinist Sadie Fields (from Brussels\, Belgium) with festival director/pianist Ken Gee on Friday\, November 7\, at the GYMC. More information at https://www.guelphmusicfest.ca \nFounded in 1994 while the members were still students\, the Zemlinsky Quartet has become a much lauded example of the Czech string quartet tradition. The Zemlinsky Quartet won the First Grand Prize at the Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition in 2010. They have also been awarded top prizes at the Banff International String Quartet Competition (2007)\, the Prague Spring International Music Competition (2005)\, and the London International String Quartet Competition (2006)\, where they also received the Audience Prize. The Quartet was the recipient of the Alexander Zemlinsky Advancement Award in 2008. Other notable prizes include the Beethoven International Competition (1999)\, the New Talent Bratislava (2003)\, the Martinů Foundation String Quartet Competition (2004)\, and the Prize of the Czech Chamber Music Society (2005). In the 2016/17 season\, the Zemlinsky Quartet was appointed as the residential ensemble of the Czech Chamber Music Society. \nWhile students at the Prague Conservatory and the Academy of Performing Arts Prague\, the ensemble was coached by members of renowned Czech string quartets\, including the Talich\, Prague\, Kocian and Pražák Quartets. The ensemble also participated in several master classes\, including ProQuartet in France and the Sommerakademie in Reichenau\, Austria\, where they were awarded First Prize for the best interpretation of a work by Janáček. From 2005 to 2008\, the quartet studied with Walter Levin\, the first violinist of the LaSalle Quartet. What does it feel like to loosen up rigid patterns and beliefs about theatre\, about improv\, and our selves? What are the unique rewards of trying on new characters and strategies? What are the unique rewards of honest improv\, whether it comes out as comedic or not? What discoveries can we make when we let go of what we think we know?\n\nFor 6 weeks we’ll combine improv theory\, games and scene work to bring out fresh perspectives. This series is just as much meant for those brand new to improv as it is for those with plenty of improv experience. We all have some firm-ish beliefs about this artform\, which means that we all have exciting new discoveries to make within it. In the spirit of improvisation\, the unique gifts of everyone who joins the series will help to shape it. The only prerequisites are: an interest to learn and explore\, an enthusiasm for camaraderie\, and the willingness to try something new (regardless of your current experience level).\n\nClasses will be taught by Kevin Nunn.\n\nKevin is a professional and brilliant improv performer and teacher on a decades long journey. He aspires to ignite the flame of improv passion in as many hearts as he can. He is all around good human with an autistic slant and an absolutely undying passion for improv theory and the art of discovery. Kevin now makes his living in a non-theatrical profession\, and in the spirit of separating art and commerce as much as possible he refuses to profit financially from teaching improv. DESCRIPTION:Payadora is an award-winning ensemble that performs its own arrangements of a core repertoire drawing from Argentinian/Uruguayan traditions (tangos\, milongas\, waltzes\, and folk music such as the Zamba and chacarera)\, as well as original songs inspired by that tradition. Comprised of musicians who are each musical powerhouses in their own right\, this “superstar group” has combined their profound love of tango with their classical\, jazz and world music backgrounds to create something entirely new. DESCRIPTION:Cellist Paul Pulford\, violinist Sadie Fields and Guelph Musicfest director/pianist Ken Gee have been performing together as the Festival Trio since 2014. During that time\, they have built on a common sense of musicality and friendship that makes for wonderful performances. Sadie Fields lives in Brussels\, Belgium\, and has a stellar career in Europe\, performing in top-drawer ensembles and recently became the new principal violinist of the famed Edinburgh String Quartet. Paul Pulford lives in Long Reach\, New Brunswick\, but his previous musical roots include many years as cellist of the renowned Penderecki Quartet based at Laurier University\, where he taught\, conducted\, and was chair of the music department. All of this was in addition to solo performances\, fondness for contemporary music\, and many CD recordings. Ken is the founder and artistic director of Guelph Musicfest. PROGRAM: Haydn\, Piano Trio no. 35 in C major\, Hob. She is concertmaster of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony\, with which she is often featured as a soloist. She is an avid chamber musician; her recent collaborations include Emanuel Ax and members of the Penderecki String Quartet. Ken Gee is the founder and artistic director of Guelph Musicfest. PROGRAM: Tchaikovsky\, Melodie in E-flat major op. 42; Amy Beach\, Violin Sonata\, op. 34; Debussy\, Clair de lune (arr. Roelens); Brahms\, Violin Sonata no. 2 in A major\, op. 100; Chopin\, Nocturne in c-sharp minor (arr.
