SUMMARY:Places of Comfort: Making Miniature Worlds with Nimra Bandukwala
DESCRIPTION:Family Day Workshop \nWe all have a place of comfort\, whether real or imagined. Join us to creatively reflect upon this theme through writing\, drawing and finally creating a miniature world! We will transform ideas into a world created in a vessel using foraged\, found\, and upcycled materials. We will make landscapes\, structures\, figures\, and creatures with materials like bark\, twigs\, seeds\, dried flowers\, and more! \nA variety of foraged and found materials will be provided as well as basic vessels for the miniature worlds\, but you are welcome to bring anything you would like to incorporate such as interesting seeds\, twigs\, bark\, rocks\, shells as well as a vessel such as a teacup\, mug\, glass jar\, etc. \nAbout Nimra Bandukwala: Nimra (she/her) is a Pakistani visual artist and maker of crafts using natural and found materials. She was born and raised in Karachi\, and has lived in Italy\, England\, and Canada over the past decade. She facilitates community-engaged workshops with folks of all ages and abilities\, and believes that artmaking is a collaborative process that everyone should have access to. She co-leads Reth aur Reghistan\, a multidisciplinary arts project exploring folklore and artmaking using foraged and found materials. You can join her creative experiments on Instagram @nimrabandukwala.art and find her on nimrabandukwala.com. \nTo ensure willing participants have access to educational opportunities\, please email Ahmri at info@otherwisestudios.com if you face financial barriers and share why you are interested in joining the class. We can provide up to two complimentary spots in this workshop. \nRecommended for kids age 10+\, but full families welcome. SUMMARY:Family Day Crafternoon: Community Banner Building
DESCRIPTION:Calling all families with young artists and the young at heart – spend Family Day afternoon exploring printmaking and collaborating on a community project! Join us at the gallery Monday\, February 20\, between 1 pm and 4 pm\, for a free guided printmaking workshop and community-engaged project. As a drop-in event\, participants – children and caregivers – will learn how to design\, carve and hand-print a single colour print using a variety of tools and techniques. All printmakers will create and take home their own printmaking block that can be used over and over again and create two printed banners – one of these will become part of a community banner quilt that will be assembled and displayed at the Art Gallery of Guelph. Come and collaborate with your friends\, family and neighbors in the Guelph community! \nThis program is designed for kids aged 4-14 with their caregiver(s)\, though all ages are welcome. Please note: children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. All materials are provided. No experience is required. Come dressed for a mess!

SUMMARY:Art in a Just Recovery
DESCRIPTION:WHAT IS ART IN A JUST RECOVERY?\nArt in a Just Recovery (AIJR) is a local community arts project that explores community care in the context of our ongoing pandemic recovery in Guelph. We’ll explore these ideas together through art and story-telling. Through a series of online and in-person workshops facilitated by Art Not Shame and the Guelph Neighbourhood Support Coalition’s newly formed Creative Collective\, participants will create individual art pieces that eventually form a large-scale digital mural. We will also invite interested participants to contribute to building community-based knowledge about care. \nWHO IS INVOLVED?\nArt in a Just Recovery is a collaborative project between Art Not Shame\, the Guelph Neighbourhood Support Coalition\, University of Guelph researcher\, Amy Kipp\, social artist lead\, Melanie Schambach\, and several community Art Buddies. The project will also consist of two mental health workers who will provide support throughout the project. \nWe are inviting members from the community from ages 10+ to participate. \nWHEN\nWhole Group Workshops | February 27th – April 17th | Mondays\, 6-8pm | online \nArt Buddy Workshops | March 29th – April 22nd | Wednesdays\, Thursdays\, Fridays\, or Saturdays \nClick here to register. \nAs a participant of Art in a Just Recovery\, you will be a part of one of eight Art Buddy Groups that are based on art mediums and locations. Once the project begins\, you will able to share which Art Buddy Group you’d like to be a part of. \nOUR INTENTION\nWe’ve been thinking a lot about what community care means and feels like\, and it is our intention that care be the central intention of the project\, both in terms of how we create together and what we create together.
