SUMMARY:GSA Teen Surface Design with Indigo Dye and Marbling
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, August 8th\, 9am-3pm\nAges 12-16 \nInstructor: Isabelle Sain  \nGive new life to your clothes and textiles! Learn the history of indigo and marbling techniques and the role of upcycling to rethink textile waste. \nIn this workshop participants will be introduced to indigo dyeing techniques that will be applied to various fabrics and papers. Participants will have the opportunity to try multiple resist techniques to customize both supplied materials and their own items. \nMarbling will follow with vibrant inks to create painterly designs. Participants will use a range of tools to manipulate the inks and create beautiful patterns that will be transferred onto fabrics and paper. \nMaterials: Although materials are included\, we encourage you to bring some of your own items to personalize such as T-shirts\, pillowcases\, socks\, scarves\, etc. They must be made from natural fibers such as cotton\, linen\, hemp\, and silk.

DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, August 9th\, 9am -3pm \nAges 12-16  \nInstructor: Emmi Boyle \n In this hands-on workshop students will be introduced to the magical worlds of bookbinding and block printing. We will spend the day exploring various traditional and modern methods of bookbinding and will be learning how to construct our very own journal\, sketchbook\, or notebook! We will then delve into the oldest printing technique in the world\, where students will have the freedom to design and carve their own stamp block which they can use to decorate their newly-sewn books. We will learn the fundamentals of both of these processes and the basic tools and techniques needed to create their own pieces at home. \nAll materials are provided.

DESCRIPTION:Life Drawing with Trevor \nLast Thursday of every month (Aug 31\, 2023) | 6:30-8:30PM \nThese sessions are two hours long with appropriate breaks. The poses range from 30 second gestures to extended poses of ½ hour or longer. \nDrawing boards\, chairs and a live model are provided by HWHG. You bring your own pencils\, graphite and paper. No paints or wet media are permitted in these sessions – only drawing. \n\nbring your own paper and drawing materials (chairs and easels provided)\nno late-comers\, doors close at 6:30 pm\nsessions are $15 (cash only)\nsupervised and non-instructional\nopen to students and the public\nmodels will be unclothed
