DESCRIPTION:The recently expanded Guelph Studio Tour and Sale event is Saturday  Oct 14th\, 2023 10:00am – 6:00pm and Sunday Oct 15th\, 2023 11:00am –  5:00pm. Forty three diverse and talented local artists have been  selected by a jury and will open their studios or show their work in  exhibition spaces. Explore worlds of jewellery\, clay\, oil\, pastel\, acrylic\,  mixed media\, metal\, papers\, glass\, textiles\, wood\, wax and  watercolours. SUMMARY:Animal Forms- Residency Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Come home to the forest\, gather ’round the fire\, and share in celebrating the completion of Animal Forms\, an interactive love-letter to the land by Guelph Artist in Residence\, Miki Tamblyn. \nAnimal Forms is an interactive mask making and wearing project about shapeshifting\, playing\, and empathy between species. How might our experience of the world change if we practised seeing through another’s eyes? \nThroughout the summer the people of Guelph have participated in this project through facilitated ‘sit-spot’ sessions\, interacting with hand-made animal masks and documenting their reflections through journaling and photography. Now that these sessions are complete and the masks have been brought to life\, join Miki for one last gathering to say thank you to the forest and to our animal kin. \nThis final gathering will include an artist talk from Miki about the process of mask-making\, gratitude sharing around a fire\, and an opportunity for all to express and ponder their connection to land and our other-than-human relations. Through relentless training and self-dedication\, Ati has become a master of the intricate strokes\, flowing lines\, and rich cultural significance that define Persian and Arabic calligraphy. \nBorn and raised in Qazvin\, which is known as the calligraphy capital of Iran\, Ati learned traditional calligraphy from professional masters in her hometown. She is motivated by employing art as an efficient tool to strengthen the bonds within a diverse community. How can arts students and emerging artists re-imagine the careers they could pursue? What are the emergent\, entrepreneurial\, or unexpected career paths that arts grads have taken? A group of diverse arts trailblazers will share stories and lessons learned. Students\, artists and creatives of all disciplines\, ages and experience levels are welcome. \nThis workshop is offered in partnership with the Guelph Emerging Artist Mentorship Project\, and made possible with support from RBC Emerging Artists Project.
