SUMMARY:Monotype Printmaking Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to plan\, design\, create\, and print a monotype! Use new materials and learn a variety of techniques to create your desired image\, then watch the magic of the printing press take place as you pull your print through. \nMonotype is a process of printmaking created by drawing or painting on a matrix (plexiglass or other smooth surface) which is then printed using an intaglio press to create a single (mono) print. It is a unique type of printmaking as it’s the only form that creates a single image instead of a full edition of the same print. This form of printmaking is great for folks who like to paint or draw and are interested in trying out a new medium! \nAll materials will be supplied\, no experience necessary. \nTo ensure willing participants have access to arts opportunities\, please email Ahmri at info@otherwisestudios.com if you face financial barriers. DESCRIPTION:Virtual Meeting\n\n\nSymmetry & Surprise: The Kaleidoscope as Design Inspiration\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKALEIDOSCOPE – the very word promises surprise and magic\, change and chance. Exploding with visual excitement\, a kaleidoscopic design organizes an abundance of color and shape into a complex\, coherent and unique whole. This slide lecture traces my evolving quilt series in which the multifaceted\, luminous and random nature of a kaleidoscope is explored on a quilt’s flat surface. \nPaula’s Bio\nPaula’s quilts have achieved international recognition for the innovative and complex designs inspired by the bilateral symmetry of kaleidoscopic images. SUMMARY:Rocks\, Streams\, and Dreams
DESCRIPTION:Rocks\, Streams\, and Dreams is a multifaceted exhibition celebrating the beauty of nature and our connection to the environment. \nRunning from March 9 to May 4\, this show highlights the work of local artists and emerging talents\, offering a rich and diverse perspective on landscapes\, waterways\, and natural forms. \nOur member artists\, Diana Scott\, Sharyn Seibert\, Suzanne Wakefield\, Nancy Farrell\, and Patti Collins will all be hanging a variety of pieces inspired by Ontario’s beautiful landscapes. \nThis special collection features intricate botanical drawings by Mary Anne Young\, stunning photography by AJ Longstreet\, and compelling pieces from emerging artist Pat Flood. \nThe exhibition also includes works from Centennial High School students\, who studied photographs of the Yorklands site—a historic space at the heart of conservation efforts by Yorklands Green Hub—and transformed them into unique artistic interpretations under the guidance of teachers Karin Silverstone and Erin Mulcahey. \nIn celebration of Earth Day\, the exhibition highlights the significance of preserving and appreciating our natural spaces through art.

SUMMARY:Intuitive Weaving
DESCRIPTION:During the darker winter days\, it’s nice to have a meditative art practice to turn to to help you relax and practice mindfulness. Weaving can have a tangible outcome (like a wall hanging or placemat)\, or be purely for relaxation and play – without the pressure of outcomes. Either way\, it becomes a transcript of your mood and imagination. \nIn this 2 hour class\, we will learn the basics of weaving with little to no financial investment. Using a cardboard loom that we make ourselves and the provided materials\, we will go over basic weaving techniques. \nWe will let the materials guide us and see where they take us. Our intuition will lead us while we slow down our thoughts and enjoy the creative process. No prior weaving experience necessary!

Although each artist expresses this in different ways\, they share common themes of repetition\, rhythm and poetry.
