SUMMARY:Wallflower Paintings by Corine van Hoeve
DESCRIPTION:Based in Dundas\, Ontario\, Corine began actively drawing and painting in mid-career after taking courses at the Dundas Valley School of Art (DVSA). Having previously obtained degrees from the University of Guelph\, Western University\, and University of Toronto\, she has\, at different times\, worked in finance and education as well as project management. When not out painting or sketching from life or en plein air\, Corine works from her studio at the Cotton Factory in Hamilton\, Ontario. \nInstagram: @cvanhoeve\nWebsite: cvanhoeve.ca\nEmail: cvanhoeve@gmail.com \nWhile artwork is made to be viewed and commented upon\, a ‘wallflower’ is\, by definition\, the opposite. It describes an individual who\, though present at parties and gatherings\, actively avoids direct connection with others. My paintings embody this duality: encouraging people to look while at the same time not necessarily returning the gaze. On another level\, they are studies in observation\, perhaps a little like a wallflower might carefully scrutinize who’s the life of the party from the corner of the room. DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, May 1th and 8th\, 11-2pm \nInstructor is David Caesar \nWe are now offering 2-week workshop version of our 5-week class! \nGreat for both beginner and intermediate students\, this technically thorough workshop will cover the basics of drawing from both life and photographs. From copying simple angles and shapes\, to understanding perspective\, the fundamentals of light and shadow\, this practical course will sharpen your skills in every area. We’ll also discuss composition and design and how these can convey different feelings and ideas. Dig in to the exciting process of drawing! \nMaterials:  A sketchbook\, size 11” x 14” minimum is recommended. Try to find something with smooth paper.  A 0.5 technical pencil is preferred\, but any old pencil will do. H and 2H leads are better. SUMMARY:Tara Miller speaks at Royal City Quilters Guild
DESCRIPTION:Virtual Meeting\n\n\nGraphic Quilts of the 20th Century\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis presentation is packed with graphic\, visually stunning quilts from the whole of the 20th century. Many of these have a surprisingly modern aesthetic! Throughout the conversation\, we’ll put these quilts in context: historically\, socially\, artistically. We’ll explore some of our connections with the past that inform us\, inspire us\, and drive us in the art and practice of quilt making today. \nTara’s Bio\nTara Miller is an independent researcher\, designer\, enthusiast\, lecturer\, and instructor who recently left a 22-year career in the software industry to pursue All Things Quilts full time. Tara serves on the Board of Directors of the American Quilt Study Group (AQSG)\, is a member of the Modern Quilt Guild\, and founded the Atlanta Quilt Study Group in 2019. \nHer patterns and articles have been published in Quiltmania\, Simply Moderne\, Simply Vintage\, and Modern by the Yard. Her work has hung in both the Benartex and the Hobbs booths at the 2018 Houston Quilt Market\, in the 2019 Georgia Celebrates Quilts show\, and in the 2019 Smoky Mountain Quilt show. \nTara teaches quilting techniques through her pattern workshops\, delivers lectures and trunk shows about quilting and women’s history\, and sells her original quilt patterns and quilt-themed shirts on her website. DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, May 31st 12pm-4pm\n\nTo purchase the class or for more info click here\n\nInstructor: Miranda Nagel\n\nJoin local potter and Wyndham Art Supplies staff Miranda Nagel for an afternoon of getting to know clay! This workshop is suitable for those that have little or no experience working with clay and have an interest in hand building. Students will learn a variety of techniques to create small to medium sized forms\, explore texture\, and an overview in underglaze painting techniques. Finished pieces will be clear glazed and fired by the instructor and will be available for pickup in 2-3 weeks.\n\n*Students are encouraged to bring any textured items they wish to press into their clay piece(s).\n\nAll Materials Included
