SUMMARY:Helen Martin speaks at Royal City Quilters Guild
DESCRIPTION:Quilts and Their Stories\n\nRoyal City Quilters’ Guild’s own Helen Martin’s love of vintage/antique quilts began when her mother gave her wedding quilt to Helen and her its story. This was also the beginning of Helen’s hobby collecting quilts\, blocks and tops from the early 1800s\, four-block quilts from the 1870s\, crazy quilts from the late 1800s\, red work quilts from the 1920\,  and the beautiful 1930s quilts up to quilts she has made. \nVisit https://rcqg.square.site to purchase a $10 guest pass. You may credit this purchase towards your membership fee later. \n\n\nHelen’s Bio\nHelen began quilting in approximately 1965. Her mother made a quilt for our wedding in 1963 and had used the good corners of old flannelette sheets for filler. Then she discovered polyester batting and the tiny quilting stitches she make using it. She took our quilt apart and I helped her re-quilt it. This was Helen’s first attempt at quilting and she loved it. Helen has been quilting ever since.

Grazyna will share insight into her approach to making art\, including how she created the pieces in her exhibit\, Oceans\, Wetlands\, and Greenlands. Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to connect with one of Guelph’s own creative voices. \nWhile you’re at the Library\, visit Grazyna’s exhibit\, Oceans\, Wetlands\, and Greenlands which depicts vital and interconnected ecosystems. The exhibit features more than 25 paintings displayed across three library locations: Main Library\, East Side Library\, and Westminster Square Library. The collection includes works from the artist’s My Oceanic Allegories show\, as well as paintings depicting forests\, lakes\, and wetlands. \nAbout the Artist\nGrazyna Adamska-Jarecka is a Polish-born Canadian painter who has lived in Guelph\, Ontario\, for thirty years. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from the University of Guelph in 2002 and her Master of Fine Arts in Painting from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2006. Her background in biology has greatly influenced her artistic interests. On September 17\, join us back at the gallery to celebrate the launch of our fall season! \nWhether you are 5 or 95\, a first-time printmaker or a seasoned artist\, everyone is welcome. Artists ages 13 and under must have a caregiver present. \nAll materials are provided.
