DESCRIPTION:Creativity has no borders. It is not restricted to a place or time. \nJoin artist Mary Kroetsch at Riverside Park’s big picnic shelter and engage in small talk by completing the sentence “Creativity is…” with a single word scribed in any fashion. Then using supplied tools\, make the word scream loudly with any kind of mark making. Consider beautiful words made ugly and ugly words made beautiful. \nThe aim of this activity is to offer a safe place and space for participants\, plus a little time\, to share something that a simple three word sentence can say\, empowering community to redefine a public space as a creative-led conversation forum. \nConversation not only conveys and sparks ideas but also enthusiasm and passion. Everyone’s experiences\, expertise\, and opinions are unique. Sharing them with others can foster a creative environment. And a creative environment is open and welcoming to many people coming together for a brief moment of understanding\, tolerance and unity. \nThe “Creativity Is” sentences will provide inspiration for a future installation at Guelph Civic Museum.

SUMMARY:Animal Forms- Residency Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Come home to the forest\, gather ’round the fire\, and share in celebrating the completion of Animal Forms\, an interactive love-letter to the land by Guelph Artist in Residence\, Miki Tamblyn. \nAnimal Forms is an interactive mask making and wearing project about shapeshifting\, playing\, and empathy between species. How might our experience of the world change if we practised seeing through another’s eyes? \nThroughout the summer the people of Guelph have participated in this project through facilitated ‘sit-spot’ sessions\, interacting with hand-made animal masks and documenting their reflections through journaling and photography. Now that these sessions are complete and the masks have been brought to life\, join Miki for one last gathering to say thank you to the forest and to our animal kin. \nThis final gathering will include an artist talk from Miki about the process of mask-making\, gratitude sharing around a fire\, and an opportunity for all to express and ponder their connection to land and our other-than-human relations. DESCRIPTION:Join the AGG Volunteer Association as they welcome Renata Mares for a talk and presentation about the impact of artistic exploration on health\, healing\, and wellbeing. \nAvailable in person AND online (register for Zoom webinar above)! \nJoin the AGG Volunteer Association as they welcome Renata Mares for a talk and presentation on February 22\, at 1 pm. An AGG volunteer\, Renata works as an adaptation consultant and nurse educator. With a focus on public health\, Renata has been committed to assessing and improving the way the Canadian healthcare system functions and supports its workers\, especially nurses\, in the face of a healthcare crisis and pandemic. With a career that has taken her to four continents and thirty countries\, she lived and worked in Nunavut and the Yukon between 2015 and 2020\, a residency that transformed how she thinks about creative practice and wellbeing\, art and science. \nLiving within Inuit communities and engaging in community projects offered Renata direct engagement with artists in the North and their work across varied media\, as well as a deeper appreciation of the personal and social roles art plays. Living among northern communities also allowed Renata to build conversations with artists\, collecting not only art\, but stories of their motivation. Renata will speak about these experiences that have shaped her insight into building trust and resilience among individuals and communities\, as well as the profound impact of artistic exploration on health\, healing\, and wellbeing. \nJoin in person at the Art Gallery of Guelph\, or virtually on Zoom.

SUMMARY:Community Fabric
DESCRIPTION:WHAT IS COMMUNITY FABRIC?\nPresented by Art Not Shame\, the Community Fabric project is a free\, ten-week community-arts series in which participants work together to create a community quilt\, while building social connections and developing skills to support their mental health and wellbeing. Each week the quilt will grow as community members explore mark-making through textiles as local artist facilitators guide them through teachings around appliqué\, embroidery\, hand-sewing\, printmaking\, and quilting. In collaboration with the Guelph Neighbourhood Support Coalition and the Guelph Civic Museum\, participants will co-create a quilt that shares stories and experiences from neighbourhood groups across the City of Guelph. The quilt will be housed in Art Not Shame’s new community arts hub\, as a representation of the community members who will use the space and a physical symbol of inclusivity. The quilt will also be included in an exhibition at the Guelph Civic Museum in the Fall of 2024. \nNo experience necessary. This program is open to folks of all ages (children are welcome with their grown-up)! \nAll spaces are all ground floor and are physically accessible. All locations have accessible washroom facilities. Masks and hand sanitizer will be provided and are encouraged! \nYou can register for as many sessions as you’d like.
