Our FREE\, fun-filled event will be held from 10 am until 4:00 pm at the spacious Community Living Guelph Wellington located at 8 Royal Road. Park in the north parking lot and look for the sign at the entrance. \nWe will celebrate National Sew a Jelly Roll Day by turning scraps and strips into beautiful French Braid tops and quilts for one of our community outreach projects. \nPlease bring your sewing machine\, neutral thread and basic sewing supplies to the Mingle. The Community Outreach team will bring precut 2.5” x 6.5” scraps or you can contribute your own. We’ll have the Accuquilt cutter on hand to make quick work of the cutting. If you don’t have a travel sewing machine\, please join us anyway. There’s always room for an extra set of hands and plenty of opportunities to mingle with someone.

DESCRIPTION:Headwaters Art is excited to announce the line-up of events for the 28th Annual Fall Festival which opens with the Juried Art Show and Sale on September 18\, 2024 followed by the ticketed Opening Nite Soiree on September 19\, 2024 and our ever popular\, free event\, Jurors Walk. \nJoin 2024 Jurors\, Dr. Shauna McCabe and Mark Fletcher with a walk around the gallery to listen and learn about what impressed them when selecting the over 75+ works of art on exhibit by the 70 artists juried into the 28th Annual Headwaters Arts Juried Art Show & Sale. As an artist or art collector it is a chance to ask questions and learn more about the art world. \nDr. Shauna McCabe is the Director of the Art Gallery of Guelph\, and former Executive Director of the Textile Museum of Canada with more than 15 years experience as an arts administrator\, as well as professor and Canada Research Chair at Mount Allison University in New Brunswick. \nPreviously\, she was Director of The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery in Newfoundland and Labrador\, and Senior Curator at the Confederation Centre Art Gallery in Prince Edward Island. In 2007\, she was appointed Canada Research Chair in Critical Theory in the Interpretation of Culture\, leading interdisciplinary research and practice at Mount Allison University where she was also Associate Professor. \nMcCabe completed a PhD at the University of British Columbia\, an MA at Simon Fraser University\, and a BA at McGill University. \nMark Fletcher is co-owner of Cloud Gallery and a long-time lover and supporter of the arts. He was the Co-Chair of the Orillia Museum of Art and History for 4 years and Chair of the Orillia Heritage Committee for 8 years. At the Museum he led a push for growth and innovation that included a $2m renovation of the Heritage Building and a restructuring of the organization. His business experience includes working for large Canadian corporations (Bell\, General Motors\, Scotiabank) and innovative marketing agencies (Perennial Inc.). He is now a full-time faculty member at Georgian College in Barrie teaching courses on entrepreneurship and investing. He is married\, a father of 4\, and lives in Orillia. He has organized artist retreats\, bringing together a community of artists at his recreational property in Severn Township\, Rancho Relaxo\, where he supports artist residencies. More recently he is expanding those programs to Snug Harbour on Georgian Bay and beyond with Cloud Gallery. \n  \n

Projects are inspired by the artwork currently on view by artist Justin Favela who uses everyday materials to ingeniously to “make something out of nothing\,” as he describes it\, producing his distinctive mash-ups of traditional and popular culture. Drop in between 1 – 5 pm for as long as you like to make creative curios and magnificent masterpieces to take home\, and contribute to collective community cut paper banners (papel picado) and murals that will be displayed at the gallery. Learn more about traditional and contemporary paper art practices from Latin America during Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month\, an opportunity to recognize the cultures and contributions of these communities that have indelibly enriched our collective experiences. \nThe AGG Make-a-thon is ideal for everyone\, from beginners and families to established artists. Bring your own hats\, shirts and other textiles from home or use the paper and thrifted textile items provided by 10C. \nUpcycle your textiles with fun creative designs! \nPaige Bromby is a Guelph Based Artist and Community Animator. Working in a range of mediums\, Paige explores the landscape in the age of digital media. Paige holds a Bachelor of Arts Honours\, in Studio Art from the University of Guelph\, with a minor in Art History.

Janice will discuss how a transformative dream during an artist residency in Sweden inspired her book\, Bloom: On Becoming an Artist Later in Life. \nJanice will share her journey of becoming an artist and explore how creativity can flourish as we age. Her book combines personal anecdotes with the stories of 138 artists\, offering a fresh perspective on how art and aging can positively intersect. Discover how older artists can leverage their experiences and embrace creativity to renew their sense of purpose and joy. \nNo registration required; all are welcome. DESCRIPTION:In honouring five generations of listening\, watching and learning\, Ojibway/Potawatomi artist Boshdayosgaykwe Pawis grew up in and around the gift of traditional quillwork\, living and learning to continually work toward teaching this skill. \nAs the founder of G’zaagin Art Gallery\, she resourcefully uses only natural materials and finds creative ways for people to experience natural products. Participants will learn about quillwork and use materials that have been harvested\, cleaned\, dried\, and stored by G’zaagin Art Gallery throughout the year to make their own quillwork medallion. Come learn and listen to Pawis’ stories\, filled with love and gratitude\, as we learn to listen to our Earth Mother. \nThis workshop is best suited to participants aged 16 and older. DESCRIPTION:Show: December 2nd – 27th \n10C Shared Space\, 42 Carden St Guelph\, Ontario \nAvailable for viewing Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm  \nPrints available for sale\, sold through 10C Shared Space \n16 pieces on display \nOpening Reception: December 6th\, 6:30 – 8:30pm  \n\nAbout the Show:\n\n\n   Born and raised in Guelph\, I’ve lived\, played\, and wandered through every part of the city. In my adult years I got involved in digital marketing\, and in doing so I saw the kind of images people share and look for of Guelph. Do a Google image search for Guelph and you’ll find a flood of the same things: downtown\, the Basilica\, and the university.   \n   My problem is with the fact that this city is so much more than downtown or the university! I didn’t really go to the university or downtown until I was in high school. When I think of the city I think of the visuals of my childhood: playing in the creeks (see: Memories of Running)\, field trips to other schools (see: Where Is Your God Now?)\, visiting deceased family (see: Hope)\, falling asleep at the drive in (see: Mustang) and more before I even discovered the other\, popular\, visual landmarks of the city. \nI wrestled with this show in my mind in how to shoot it. Do I capture according to my memory? Should I shoot just what I see? Can I add my perspective on the history and future of the city?  Is there space for visual commentary? When I look at the collection\, I think I ended up doing all of that.   ​ \n   I want you to see Guelph\, But not just the downtown or university. This show is an invitation for you to explore the city in pictures\, to be curious about their locations\, to add your own narratives to the places\, and to go find not only the nooks that I found\, but the places that bring your own stories\, too. DESCRIPTION:Virtual Meeting\n\n\nOnce Upon a Quilt\n\n\n\n\nWith this retrospective presentation Dominique invites us into her world of creation. \nThrough a series of photos using a storytelling angle\, Dominique explains the inspiration\, and the technique behind finalized work created since 2010. \n\n\nDominique’s Bio\nDominique is a self-taught fiber artist. Quilting is her medium to tell her stories. She knows the rules\, patterns and techniques. She uses them as a mean to transport\, express\, touch and reinvent. First\, a story emerges and then it starts building up\, taking shape and growing in three dimensions. She assembles it in her head\, design it to the last detail and once ready\, she turns it into a sketch. \nSketches become paper models\, who then become patterns.
