DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, July 22 | 6 – 8 pm\nArt Gallery of Guelph\nFree | Reserve your seat now > \nLight refreshments will be served. \nJoin AGG Director Shauna McCabe and artist Ron Shuebrook as they discuss the art histories that underpin AGG’s exhibition Windfall Light. Reflecting on the relationships that emerge among works from AGG’s collection and contemporary artworks on view\, the discussion will consider how artists speak across time through shared practices\, subject matter\, and engagements with landscape. \nWindfall Light brings together historical works by Franklin Carmichael\, A. J. Casson\, Gordon Couling\, Kathleen Daly\, Prudence Heward\, Edwin Holgate\, Arthur Lismer\, Evan Macdonald\, J. E. H. MacDonald\, Doris McCarthy\, J. W. Morrice\, George Pepper\, William Goodridge Roberts\, Tom Thomson\, Frederick Varley\, and others—with contemporary artists including John Chalmers\, Susan Dobson\, Kim Dorland\, Don Russell\, Stephen Shore\, Monica Tap\, Takao Tanabe\, and Pearl Van Geest. Through this conversation\, McCabe and Shuebrook will explore the connections at play across the exhibition\, considering how works made in different moments illuminate one another through their attention to light\, place\, memory\, and the changing conditions in which artists work.

Grazyna will share insight into her approach to making art\, including how she created the pieces in her exhibit\, Oceans\, Wetlands\, and Greenlands. Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to connect with one of Guelph’s own creative voices. \nWhile you’re at the Library\, visit Grazyna’s exhibit\, Oceans\, Wetlands\, and Greenlands which depicts vital and interconnected ecosystems. The exhibit features more than 25 paintings displayed across three library locations: Main Library\, East Side Library\, and Westminster Square Library. The collection includes works from the artist’s My Oceanic Allegories show\, as well as paintings depicting forests\, lakes\, and wetlands. \nAbout the Artist\nGrazyna Adamska-Jarecka is a Polish-born Canadian painter who has lived in Guelph\, Ontario\, for thirty years. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from the University of Guelph in 2002 and her Master of Fine Arts in Painting from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2006. Her background in biology has greatly influenced her artistic interests. Throughout her career\, her work has oscillated between abstract interpretations of microbes\, coral reefs\, landscapes\, the human body\, and communication. \nAbout Guelph Arts Council\nGuelph Arts Council (GAC) is a registered charity\, community resource\, and cultural hub for artists\, arts organizations\, and audiences.
