There will be guided demos every step of the way\, teaching techniques to draw and problem-solve quickly\, lean into intuition\, and capture moving shape\, form\, and light. \nJoin us for this rare\, stripped back rehearsal setting and artistic event. Come to draw\, or just enjoy the sweet sounds of the band. This event has a sliding scale ticket system\, please pay what you can and support local artists! \nAll materials will be supplied\, no experience necessary. Participants are welcome to bring their own materials if they wish. There will be both seated and standing options. Whether you plan to draw or just come and listen\, we welcome you into this evening of good vibes and great music. \nAbout the band\nSHEBAD is the creative spirit of visual artist and vocalist Claire Voy and multi-instrumentalist Ciccio Spagnolo. This Guelph-based music project plays on the exploratory realm of Indie Soul\, characterized by jazz-influenced melodies\, danceable basslines\, and Claire’s transcendent voice. Their sound is a synthesis of influences like Stevie Wonder\, Hiatus Kaiyote\, Amy Winehouse\, Daft Punk\, and Erykah Badu\, making the music compelling and curious with lyrics from the heart. CBC’s Laila Biali aptly describes their sound as “Music that exists in a sonic world of its own”.

DESCRIPTION:“The Years in which I’ve spoken to you”  is the visual amalgamation of a wordless conversation. A dialogue with creativity itself in which the artist separates themselves and acts as a channel to be spoken through. The works in this series speak to the subtle and constant tension within the human form tirelessly contending with unseen guides\, picking and prying your internal compass. \n As defined by writer Paulo Coelho “Everything is written in the soul of the world and there it will stay forever.” Gabbi’s work in turn seeks to be in dialogue with the soul of the world\, the infinite well of knowledge\, through the language of intuition. She depicts both the cautionary tail of a false prophet\, and the knowledge the soul of the world affords those who will listen. DESCRIPTION:Virtual Meeting\n\n\nJapan 2.0\n\n\n\n\nMeet the Next Gen of Japanese quilt artists. Japan’s history and cultural norms set very clear rules for who is and who is not considered a Master\, and this lecture will explain why\, and how\, that happens. But in the Japan 2.0 universe\, there is a community of quilters for the 21st century who are operating outside the rigid cultural lines of the traditional Master/Student relationship. They are creating original\, modern quilts with a global eye while still managing to reference the Japanese aesthetic. \n\n\nTeresa’s Bio\nTeresa Duryea Wong is an author\, lecturer\, and quilt historian. She is the author of Sewing & Survival: Native American Quilts from 1880 – 2022\, and five additional books covering Japanese quilts and textiles\, American quilts and cotton\, and quilts for social justice. She is a contributing writer for Quiltfolk. Teresa is a member of the International Quilt Museum advisory board and the Quilt Alliance board. She has been recognized as a scholar by the Visions Museum of Textile Art in San Diego and the Texas Quilt Museum. Her lectures are popular with American quilt guilds\, and she is invited regularly to lecture at the annual Quiltcon and International Quilt Festival events. SUMMARY:In Conversation with Susan Mogul
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an engaging conversation with pioneering video artist Susan Mogul\, who will discuss her 1997 video I Stare at You and Dream\, featured in AGG’s exhibition Do You Remember Love\, as well as her wider practice. Known for intertwining autobiography with documentary strategies\, Mogul’s work often explores themes of family\, relationships\, and identity through a deeply personal lens. \nFilmed in Mogul’s Highland Park neighborhood in Los Angeles\, a predominantly working-class Latino area\, I Stare at You and Dream follows the intersecting lives of four individuals: Mogul herself; her friend\, Rosie Sanchez; Rosie’s teenage daughter\, Alejandra (Alex) Sanchez; and Ray Aguilar\, Mogul’s on-and-off boyfriend. The narrative is intimate\, intertwining familial and romantic relationships to explore how personal history shapes the present\, inviting us to consider questions of women’s identity\, family dynamics\, and the search for a sense of home. \nSusan Mogul has been involved with video since the early 1970s\, creating a foundational body of humorous and staunchly feminist performance videos before expanding into experimental narratives\, including feature-length work. Her numerous accolades include a Guggenheim Fellowship\, a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship\, and an ITVS commission. Her work has been showcased internationally\, with a survey of her videos held at the Austrian Film Museum in Vienna in 2024\, and her first solo museum exhibition at the Zacheta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw in 2022. In my adult years I got involved in digital marketing\, and in doing so I saw the kind of images people share and look for of Guelph. Do a Google image search for Guelph and you’ll find a flood of the same things: downtown\, the Basilica\, and the university.   \n   My problem is with the fact that this city is so much more than downtown or the university! I didn’t really go to the university or downtown until I was in high school. When I think of the city I think of the visuals of my childhood: playing in the creeks (see: Memories of Running)\, field trips to other schools (see: Where Is Your God Now?)\, visiting deceased family (see: Hope)\, falling asleep at the drive in (see: Mustang) and more before I even discovered the other\, popular\, visual landmarks of the city. \nI wrestled with this show in my mind in how to shoot it. Do I capture according to my memory? Should I shoot just what I see? Can I add my perspective on the history and future of the city?  Is there space for visual commentary? When I look at the collection\, I think I ended up doing all of that.   ​ \n   I want you to see Guelph\, But not just the downtown or university. This show is an invitation for you to explore the city in pictures\, to be curious about their locations\, to add your own narratives to the places\, and to go find not only the nooks that I found\, but the places that bring your own stories\, too. DESCRIPTION:In honouring five generations of listening\, watching and learning\, Ojibway/Potawatomi artist Boshdayosgaykwe Pawis grew up in and around the gift of traditional quillwork\, living and learning to continually work toward teaching this skill. \nAs the founder of G’zaagin Art Gallery\, she resourcefully uses only natural materials and finds creative ways for people to experience natural products. Participants will learn about quillwork and use materials that have been harvested\, cleaned\, dried\, and stored by G’zaagin Art Gallery throughout the year to make their own quillwork medallion. Come learn and listen to Pawis’ stories\, filled with love and gratitude\, as we learn to listen to our Earth Mother. \nThis workshop is best suited to participants aged 16 and older. DESCRIPTION:Join Guelph Arts Council and Michelle Miller from MiMi Jewelry for a virtual discussion on finding success selling at markets and beyond!\n\nMichelle Miller graduated from the Theatre Arts Program at the University of Guelph\, then studied glass at Sheridan College in the Craft and Design Program. During her school years\, Miller worked creating and designing silk scarves for her family business.\n \n\nShe is the founder of the Hot Glass studio\, Glen Williams Glass. Working for 10 years as a glass artist\, Miller was always creating jewellery on the side\, selling wire jewellery in their showroom and creating jewellery for weddings and special occasions. \nAfter the birth of her children\, Miller spent more time honing her craft and grew a respected and successful handmade jewellery business. She has sold at countless markets\, operates a successful online store and has found a very loyal group of patrons who support her work. \nCome learn the tricks of the trade from this iconic member of the Guelph Arts Community! \nPlease note this is a VIRTUAL workshop and registration is required.
