DESCRIPTION:Thursday January 18th\, January 25th & February 1st | 7-9pm \nFacilitated by Hope Thompson \nWriting for film requires both a good story and a solid understanding of the craft of screenwriting. During this 3-part introductory online workshop series\, we will explore the basic tools required to unlock your short- or feature-length screenplay ideas. Topics covered include loglines\, premise\, theme\, character\, structure\, dialogue and symbol. Please bring your screenplay ideas to the first class. No experience necessary! \nHope Thompson writes for stage\, film and television and her work explores the queer experience through history and genre. She has had plays produced in Toronto\, Vancouver and Los Angeles and her award-winning short films have screened internationally. She wrote on two seasons of CBC’s Baroness Von Sketch Show and is currently co-writing a series with a broadcaster attached. This workshop is offered in conjunction with Ed Video’s upcoming symposium: Pork & Screens. \n???? DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by Heather Wright \nSelling a screenplay can be even more challenging than writing one\, but with knowledge and the right tools\, it is possible to take a written script to the big screen. This online workshop provides participants with a deeper understanding of the film industry as well as practical tips for getting your screenplay . Topics include: copyright\, loglines\, how to find producers\, query letters and more. Whether you have a completed screenplay or just an idea\, this workshop can equip you with the skills needed to take your story to the next level. \nHeather Wright has spent over 20 years as a freelancer/copywriter and many other years as a high school English teacher\, college Business Communications instructor\, amateur director and actor\, and office temp. (Yes\, she can still write shorthand.) Looking for some mental escape during a lengthy editing gig\, Heather attended a webinar about writing Hallmark-style films. Heather wrote her first screenplay in autumn 2020\, and in summer 2022\, she optioned her first script\,  A Cowboy Christmas. It was filmed in March 2023 in Maple Creek\, Saskatchewan and shown on Crackle in the U.S. at holiday time.
